That will be DH if he doesn't over sleep and miss the whole thing. He worries me sometimes. He has NO concept of time. Today he said "I will just get up and instead of taking the bus, I will just walk from BCV to the finish line!" He was so proud of himself for the idea until I pointed out that I will be DONE running before Epcot even opens so he will miss everything. He is rethinking his plan. And he does have the platinum ChEAR package so he better enjoy the perks for that cost!!!

Just make enough noise in the morning to help wake him up :lmao:

Maybe he will get up with you and go with you to the start. They will let the platinum ChEAR squad in starting at 5:30 so at least he can hang out there if he doesn't want to find you along the race route. Then at least he will be near the finish and you will not have to worry.

I was planning on a September 30 half in New England to keep me training through the summer and have one under my belt before the Princess. Now I've got to really ramp up my training because today I registered for the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon on Sept. 2!!!

Still can't quite believe I'm doing this. DH is headed to Anaheim for a work trip late August, mentioned his hotel is right across from Disneyland.... we were able to use frequent flyer points to get me and the kids out to join him.

Anyone here have experience with the DL races? I know you don't get as much park/resort running.... but Angels stadium does sound pretty cool. I'd welcome any advice on speeding up training (I don't want to overdo it, but would like to be prepared) or navigating a DL event.

Hey everyone,

Finally read through the entire thread, so figured it was time to de-lurk. I'm registered for the Princess Half along with my husband; it's my third half marathon and his first, but the first RunDisney event for both of us.

This will also be our first time staying on-property at WDW, and I've got a quick question about booking accommodations. A few people have mentioned that they received different room quotes when calling RunDisney versus the main reservation line. When booking through RunDisney, do you have to pay the full amount in advance, or just a deposit? And if you then find a better deal through the main reservation line, are you able to transfer it over easily, or do you have to cancel one and get the deposit back?

Looking forward to running with all of you!

Erin

I had my first night of 1/2 marathon training tonight. I'm doing a training program with our local running shoe store with a goal 1/2 at the end of October. It was great- except that by the end my feet were killing me (even though we only did about 1/2 mile more then my usual runs). I'm guessing that it's time for new shoes, but I'm hoping I can stretch the life of these guys out using some inserts maybe. Does any one have any suggestions to make these last or should I bite the bullet and fork over the money for new ones?

KTE, have you ever checked ebay? Now that you know what shoes/size work for you, maybe you could find a deal there?

KTE, also check out runningwarehouse.com They have great deals and if you use the code WISHRACED you can get another 10 or 15% off. I forget which it is. I ordered my last pair of shoes from them and saved $30 off the price in the local running store.

DH and I do the DL 1/2 each year and it is very cool to run inside Angels Stadium. I don't want to ruin it for you ....but there is a lot of cheers and support for the runners as they approach the stadium and once you're inside you will definately hear lots of cheers. Also watch the Jumbotron !!

Running through the streets of industrial Anaheim is not really thrilling but there are some great bands, and dancers to keep you moving.

If you are staying across the street from DL you can just walk to the race start. It's a fun race and we should be running through Cars Land which is something to see. Hope this helps.

I've also gotten a good deal on amazon and 6pm.com on "old" colors. When I can get a $100 pair of shoes for $40, I'll deal with whatever color they are. :thumbsup2

Thanks guys- I will check all of those places out before hitting up the running store again!

Just got done doing a trail fun run. 3.25 miles in 54 minutes. Trail runs are hard for me since I have to watch where I am going so I don't trip. Tripping 10 months after having back surgery would really hurt me. But I think I found my "on ramp" training. There was a hill that was 308 feet. It was a killer. But there was beer at the end of the run :)

Good Job!

This thread goes so fast I can't keep up :)
I did my longest run yet this weekend, 10 miles. I feel great being in the double digits!
Next up for me is a 5k this Friday evening. Its flat and I'm hoping the weather is good so I can PR.
I hope I have everyone added to the front page :)

Impressive! I am also hoping for a cooler weekend for my 10K but it is not looking like I will get that lucky.

As I learned when I had my kids, DH can sleep through ANYTHING. I think the chances of him coming with me are about as good as me being the first person to cross the finish line at the Princess :lmao: He will make it though, otherwise he will have a grumpy Princess to deal with and that is never good. :rotfl2:

:lmao: A grumpy Princess is NEVER a good thing. :)

I am sensing that this is a genetic malfunction with DHs. We're doing the Platinum ChEAR, too. The DH and kiddos better make it in for that price! :sad2:

Welcome! :cheer2:

We booked directly through RunDisney. Their rate ended up being about $350 less expensive than the main reservation line (at POR). I would still compare, because sometimes the main line will have a better price than RunDisney.

Through RunDisney, I only had to pay a $200 deposit, with the bulk due sometime in January.

I believe if you find a better deal later, they can cancel and re-reserve, but another princess may need to answer this one. Hope this helps!

:wave2: We're practically neighbors!!! What races are you doing in Sept?

Hi neighbor :wave2:

my plan is: NH 10 miler-Auburn, NH 9/1 Run for the Fallen Rye, NH (12 miles) 9/16 and the Rockfest Hampton, NH (13.1) 9/29. :crazy2:

Which race are you getting ready for? Are you doing any of these?

I know !!!!! I want my guys to enjoy it but NOT miss me crossing the finish.

I really need a easy location for them to also watch me along the route. Somewhere near a bathroom for the little one. I know Main Street will be a zoo so we are thinking somewhere near the TTC. I would love to hear anyones thoughts and ideas.
I think there will be a lot of men with kids in hand trying to make sure they don't miss their special Princess running by.

a spot that I like and is easy to get in and out of is over in front of the Contemporary just before runners make the turn to enter into MK through a backstage area...I think it's around mile 5. That year, as a spectator, I took the race bus from my hotel to where they were dropping off runners near the staging area at Epcot and then took the monorail over to Contemporary. I got there early before the race even started so I just grabbed a pastry at the QS stand there and kicked back in the lobby until it was time to go out. (This was during the 2010 WDW half when it was sleeting out, so I was soaking up all the heat I could!) I walked out of the Contemporary towards the road and crossed to view from the opposite side of the road where the runners will be. Once I was ready to leave there and go to my next spot, I just took the foot path that leads to the MK and hopped back on the monorail back to Epcot. (You won't be able to cross the street to get back into the Contemporary and use the monorail from there since the runners will be there) Once back at Epcot, I was able to get over to the resort bus drop off area where the runners were coming by just before they entered Epcot...from there you can walk (fast) to the finish and should be able to see your runner finish if they didn't sprint through Epcot! Sometimes its better to just skip that bus area and go straight to the finish though because it gets crowded over there and is hard to find a good spot to view in time.

The TTC is a good spot too, like you mentioned, but gets very very crowded. Where ever they decided to go to see you, the best bet is to be there early to get a good spot! The BF and I always go to the starting area together for races that we aren't both running to see each other off and wish good luck anyway. That way whoever isn't running has plenty of time to get set at the first planned viewing location so that even if something happens and we don't get to other spots, at least we made one! Or, as in my case when he ran DL and I didn't...I still was there with him in the AM and just parked myself in the seats at the finish line before the race even started...it was a long morning, but at least I didn't have to fight for a seat! I wasn't familiar with the area enough to get around...it was our first time there so I only planned to see him at the finish. In cases like that, the Chear package with the VIP seating area included is definitely worth it!!!

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to DH. They will definately get there early since we are ALL waking up early and heading out together. Our plan is also to check out the course (if at all possible in WDW) the day before and check out viewing locations. :)

I have already let people in the group know but now I am expanding it to the Disboard masses. I am doing the 1/2 but am looking to see if anyone needs a roomie..? My friend who was supposed to do this with me decided it was too expensive to stay on property. I can stay in the room by myself but I would really rather room with someone else.:wave2:

I'm doing the Rockfest Half, too!!! Yay! (I'm in Rochester, btw. :) )

Really I am not sure. I can't imagine that it is worth the money but we need to make this as easy and convenience for all of us. This is my first 1/2 at WDW and things are SO different at WDW than DL. We also do not know the ins and outs like we do when we run at DL. So that is why we signed up for the ChEAR Squad for my guys and the race retreat for me. Our thinking was to try and make it a little nicer for them while they are waiting for me complete the race. Especially since they will be heading out with me in the early morning. Personally, I just want DH and son to have somewhere a little nice to hang out and the character greeting, cartoons and warm coffee will make both of them happy. Hope that helps.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Thanks so much!
