I too am trying to decide on which princess to be. I have narrowed it down to Cinderella or Snow White. Who woulda thunk that I am more obsessed with Disney Princesses than my 4 year old DD!!!!

I start my 1/2 Marathon training program next week with a local running club- we had our meeting tonight. These guys really have it figured out. We go to their store for the meeting, they tell us all about what to expect and what kind of things we might need (water flasks, wicking shorts/shirts, etc), then they give us 10% off coupons and let us loose in the store. On top of that I had a $25 gc. Needless to say I bought WAY more stuff then I really needed. shorts, shirts, a new flask, some body glide and the moving comfort underwear (thanks to whoever suggested those to things a few pages ago), some socks. Things I'll use, but I probably didn't need right this second!

I'm excited, but a little nervous about starting the program. It's a big jump to go from running 5k's to the 1/2 marathon!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and support about my bad run/walk this morning. I really appreciate it. :)

I'm still catching up on this thread. I'm trying to figure out training. The longest I've ever run was 3 miles, and I haven't done that in months. Today I restarted C25K, just to see where I was at. It was thankfully pretty easy. I'm thinking I'll spend the next 2 months working through C25K/C210K to get back up to running 30+ mins nonstop. Then I'll switch over to the training program that's up on the runDisney site.

My goal is to run as much of the half as I can. More than that though, I want to finish and not get swept. Would this be too much for training? Run 3 days per week. Then 1-2 days a week walk to build up to longer distances.

I think that's good! I'm starting a 1/2 marathon program next Monday (for a race in October) and what you're planning on doing is essentially what our training schedule looks like. Our first week is only 3 miles. We do 3 days of running a week and one day of speed training and cross training (not sure what that will look like yet). Then we add in approx. a mile or so a week to our long run until our 1/2 marathon. So our program runs for 12 weeks, so if you start now I think you have plenty of time to get your base up AND get ready for the 1/2!

Sounds good! Though I am using the Galloway program which does not focus on how much you can run at once but how to make the walk breaks work the best. Galloway is who does the run Disney plans. You might want to check his out on his website. He has a conditioning one and a 5K/10K and half one.

I was looking at his programs, but as far as I can tell his apps aren't available on droid phones. I really like being able to have my phone track my distance and speed, give me run/walk cues, and be able to listen to Pandora.

If you want to use Galloway's program, but have a Droid, you can download the HIIT Interval Timer. It's free and super easy to use. You just enter your intervals and hit start and it will give you cues and what not. I just turned Pandora on in the background while I was using it.

Hi there! Are you running the Toronto Women's 10K next month? If so, we have a little Princess meet-up in the works for the After Party. So far, there are 5 of us Canadian Princesses at that race. It would be great to meet you as well. We are planning in the Facebook group, but I am on here too so happy to fill you in if you want more details!

I just started running (again) a year ago and it has made a huge difference in my life too. I have done a 5k, 8k and 2 10k races so far - another one this weekend! I love to race!

Jodi
I was looking at the Toronto run. I'd love to join you for a Toronto Meet up :) Just let me know when and where! Which facebook group is it?

That would be great!!! The Facebook group is "Disney Princess Half Marathon" (http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/235075506582373/) which is the closed group. Are you on there? If not, ask to join!

We were just going to coordinate a meet-up at the After Party of the TO Women's Race. We can sort out the exact where/when a little closer to the race, but right now we are just trying to get a sense of who might be there. I think we are now up to 6 or 7 princesses so far, so we thought it would be fun to meet and get a Princesses-in-Training royal photo!

Feel free to send me your email address or "friend" me on FB - Jodi Snowdon.

Hope to meet you next month!

In the beginning I bought the GymBoss interval timer Galloway has on his site (it was cheap and they are local). I really liked it. Just wore it on one wrist and iPod on the other. I have moved to a Garmin GPS watch and LOVE it! There are so many programs out there though and it is great to find one you like and works for you.

Don't know if it's available for droids, but I use Runkeeper - tracks mileage and pace via GPS and you can set any number of interval workouts. It runs in the background, so you can still listen to music. :thumbsup2

Question for the experienced racers:

I'm registered for the TOT 10-Miler in late Sept. and the Princess in late Feb. I'm considering adding a half in there on Dec. 9; it would be my first half-marathon.

The why: I'm competitive and driven - I want to see all of my half-marathon training pay off with a decent time... but I don't want to worry about time during the Princess - I want to have fun! The Dec. 9 half is local, so no expenses beyond registration and no need to slow down for pics or sight-seeing. I'm thinking if I do that one first, I'll already have seen the results of my training and can mellow out and really enjoy the Princess!

BUT... I'm prone to overuse injuries, thanks to a bunch of past injuries and, well, overuse. My training schedule now would have me cut back to a 3-mile long run after the 10-Miler and build back up to 14 for the Princess. (Galloway plans) If I do the Dec. 9 half, there'd be no big cut back in mileage - I'd keep building from my longest 10-miler training run (11 miles) to the Dec. half. And then what? I guess drop down to maybe 11 miles in late Dec. and build to 14 over Jan. and Feb. pre-Princess?

So I'd be looking at around 6+ months of double-digit long runs every other week. That scares me some! I'm up to 9 now and was fine until this week; my knees are staging a revolt. Two weeks ago, I'd have thought "No problem!" but right now I'm not so sure... Thoughts?

Am cruising on the Dream soon and am actually looking forward to running on a treadmill, looking out over the ocean!

To all you who are just beginning your training outside, don't let the summer heat / humidity make you think that this is too hard for you. Hang in there, especially if you live in a humid place, and you will see a HUGE difference in your performance come fall! :hippie:
First off - JEALOUS! What a great thing to see while on a treadmill!

Secondly - This is the thought that gets me through my hotter than heck runs - if I can continue to make tiny improvements in JULY, I will be *awesome* in October! Even if I only beat the last run by a few seconds, it's still improvement that will pay off come winter!

So for the experts? What time did you get back to your resort after the race last year (or in previous years)?
I'd love to know this too! I originally was thinking of doing a brunch buffet or Whispering Canyon breakfast skillet after the race, but if I don't start running til 6:30 at the latest, then (grossly overestimating here), don't finish for 3 1/2 hours, that would put me at 10am.
Getting my stuff, photos, etc will take probably an hour before we even got to the bus back to the hotel - so that puts me at 11.
Shower and change and bus to whereever for food would be noonish - 1pm. I'm looking more at a lunch than a breakfast, which kind of sucks!

However, I'm a girl who loves food, and if I have to run faster to get mickey waffles, then I guess I have some speedwork to do! :rotfl2:

I don't think I qualify as an experienced racer, BUT I am having these same thoughts as you! I think I can run a sub 2:15 half and I want to know if I can, but don't want to miss anything at the Princess by obsessing over my time. I also want the Princess to be "my first"...so my plan is to run for fun in Disney, and then do a half-marathon next spring for time. If the Princess is your first, you will PR regardless LOL.

I'm just wondering what Garmin GPS watch you use???

I have gone through two, yes two, of the Garmin Women's Forerunnner 210 and they have both died on my after a couple of weeks. Having one give out after just 4 or 5 times using it is one thing but having the replacement one die after just 3 uses----I hope it's not me. :lmao:

It's back to my app on the iphone and my GymBoss interval timer for me.

I have the forerunner 310. It was super on sale on Amazon last month and I love it!
