Also there's rumor or supposition that signing up earlier may also play into corral placement. I've never had this confirmed by anyone with RunDisney, but some of us think that people who sign up (for example) in August with a 3 hr finish are probably going to get into an earlier corral than someone who waits until January to sign up with the same 3 hr finish. There's probably a lot of folks signing up with a 3 hr time, so if they have to split them up into 2 corrals, possibly those that registered first get higher placement. Again- that's pure conjecture on my part.

I don't think we corral placement Nancy Drew's have ever had that confirmed, but food for thought. If you can commit early, it *may* be in your interest.

I think you are absolutely correct that time of registration plays into corral placement and bib number. We (DD and I) registered very late for the Princess this year. My 10k time was 54: and while I was put in corral A, my race number did not coincide with that time. The prior year I had a 1:03 10k and was put in corral B. However, my bib numbers were only 200 apart. From what I learned from Rundisney, your number is actually ranked based on your time.

The good thing is they will change your corral if you get speedier after submitting your registration!

This is good to know because I plan to register on day 1. :) But my 10k isn't until November.

This is good to know. I want to register right away, but my first half isn't until the end of september. I wasn't sure what I should put down for a projected finish time though. I was thinking putting 3 hours, then adding if my time was faster.

Yes- you can submit it online if your time changes or at the the expo. They are super easy about it either way!

Amy- does this help?

http://www.royalcaribbean.com/beforeyouboard/passportGuidelines.do

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a government-issued birth certificate and laminated government issued picture ID, denoting photo, name and date of birth. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original, notarized or certified copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issues by DOS, or Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Note: Baptismal papers and hospital certificates of birth are not acceptable. Voter registration cards or Social Security cards are not considered proof of citizenship.

I'm reading that to say if you are going in and out of the same port, you can do birth certificates. But they suggest you travel with passports in case something came up and you had to fly out to meet the boat to another port or something like that. I could see an issue with a medical ER might get mucky without a passport, but in general, it looks like you don't need them.

Thanks, Patty - people were freaking me out, telling me that we could get on the boat but NOT get off in Nassau w/o a passport. My travel agent assured me that she took her non-passporting kids on a cruise a few months ago and they got off in Nassau just fine! I know it's always safer to have them, and I would like to eventually, but 4 passports is a huge chunk of money before we go on this already exp. vacation. I think I will get us all passports within the next year, but stagger them so they are not all being purchased and renewing at the same time!!! Thanks again for the help!

I *think* I have everyone added to the front page... This thread is busy!

I ran my first 10k this past Saturday! :yay: My time was 1:02.10 :woohoo: Which is exactly the time I was hoping for!
It was pretty hot, and I got a huge blister on my foot. I finally broke down and went to the running store and bought a pair of Belega's Soft Treads. They feel amazing.. I'm going to try them out tomorrow night. ;)

Does anyone here run in Newton's? I just read about them and I tried a pair on at the store, they feel awesome!

Hi all!! I am coming in a little late to the party but I plan on running the PHM as well!! It will be my first half! So excited to join in the convo with you all!

Hello ladies! It's been a while since I posted because I've been busy with work, but today is the first day of summer break, so I hope to be able to participate more!

Months ago when I first set the goal of walking/running the PHM next year I mapped a 1 mile route around my house using mapmyrun.com. Today I walked it for the first time, and it took me 18 mins and 42 seconds. Am I kidding myself thinking I can get this under 15 minutes?

MY boyfriend and I are planning to do the 5k associated with the Food and Wine Festival in November, and I'm hoping to be able to walk that in 45 minutes. Please tell me if I am being unrealistic!

My plan is to walk 5 days a week, and continue walking just this mile until I can get it under 15 minutes, and then begin walking 2 miles until I can get that under 30 mins, and then increase to 3 miles and try to get that under 45 minutes. Does that sound like a good plan?

ETA: I forgot to mention that I am also 100 pounds overweight and am on WW. I haven't been following the plan closely, but I'm trying to fix that now since I don't have work as an excuse!

That's great news. I'm on WW too and I have lost 42 lbs. It's a great program along with walking.

My DH and DD have been running and my DD who doesn't like any sports was doing it kind of reluctantly but we've encourgaed it for the health benefit and it gives her something to do with her Dad plus she is very proud after a race.

I came up with the idea for them to try a Disney 1/2 and they've both been energized by that idea and getting another Disney trip! BUT, I am in a panic now becuase I just realized she might be too young for the races - is 14 the minimum age - she's only 9 (tomorrow is her birthday actually). She's goiing to be crushed!
The princess info says "princesses of all ages" but prizes start at age 14 - I didn't see an age listed but could have missed it. The regular half clearly says you must be 14.

I believe you do have to be 14 for any of the Disney half marathons/ marathons. There is a 5K the day before the Princess Half and it runs around the countries in Epcot - she could do that. They also get a medal.

Loulou- it's doable, but you have to train! Get out there and get going, working your way up slowly. You still have loads of time to get there. Good Luck on the 5K! I think 45 min is a reachable goal for the 5k if you really get moving and training, you can do it! GL on WW! It is a wonderful program, but you do need to follow it as closely as you can to see results!

Yes, you have to be 14 to run the Princess or any half at Disney. But the 5K is open to everyone and it's AWESOME. She would love that!

Welcome back!

I'm planning to walk the PHM as well and learned tons of stuff from a thread started last year specifically about walking the PHM. Here it is:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2808831 It talks a lot about pacing and distances.

You do have plenty of time before February so don't get discouraged. You also need to consider the heat as a factor in your pacing - you'd probably be quite a bit faster in milder weather.

I am a complete novice but I see no reason that you shouldn't be able to walk a 5K in 45 minutes by November. Right now, I'm trying to build endurance because I'd like to participate in some 10Ks, 10-milers, and half marathons this fall, all walking. Everything I read tells me that pacing will improve through experience and I've seen that - only the improvement is going more slowly than I would like. Do you have a plan for adding distance once you've conquered the 3 miles?

I started more long distance walking back in January with four miles, averaging 18 minutes per mile, and being sore for a couple of days after walking that distance. Now I am up to 8 mile distances [once per week] and my pace is 16-17 minutes per mile and, while I'm tired from the heat, I'm not really that sore afterwards. 4 miles seemed like an eternity before - now I think of it as a 'short' walk...and I am so excited that my mindset has changed in that area.

November is over four months away - you can do this! Whatever you do, don't give up! Walking or running, this is a goal worth shooting for.

Just wanted to say hi to a fellow Princess from San Antonio! Good luck with your training!

Thanks for the words of encouragement! Did my long run on Saturday (4 mi) before the heat set in for the past couple of days. Running coach said treadmill was fine at a 1% incline during the heat of the summer but...come fall and cooler weather...out on the road. Registration open in one month and then in the next few months Southwest Airline should release a schedule for Feb...and hopefully still have a couple direct flights to Orlando. Stay in touch!:cheer2:

I think all of your goals are not only realistic but very attainable! Keep the faith and remember there are soooo many of us that are doing the PHM for the first time and our main goal is to finish in the time allotted for the race. We can all celebrate our accomplishment at the finish line !

Thank you all for the encouragement! It was great coming back this evening to see these messages. I'm going to try again tomorrow and see if I can beat today's time!

I was planning to begin the Galloway Training Plan when it becomes available for the Princess. It looks like last year it was in October.

And I agree that the heat may be hindering me. I'm in Florida and it was so humid this morning. It gets over 80 degrees by 10 am, so I am going to have to work out earlier in the day.

I would like to join this group. I am planning on doing the Princess 2013 half marathon too. I am a beginner with running. I am extremely nervous about this. I have about 70 pounds of weight to lose and have had a hard time with losing it. I set this goal with the hopes of finally getting healthy! I know I probably will not be able to run the entire race but plan on walking and running it. My sister is doing it with me. We have been training for about a month now. Can I be added to the facebook page too? A little about me: I am 41 years old and have 3 kids. I live near Cincinnati, Ohio. I work as a QC specialist for a medical transcription company. I look forward to getting to know the rest of you.

Welcome to the group! I am in exactly the same boat as you -- weight to lose, and never run a day in my life. We can do this together! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
