I am running the Princess, when should I start training? I see a lot of people are doing it now and I have heard you don't need to start until October. I have never done this before... Help!

Start NOW!! If you really are starting from scratch. I am starting from scratch too.. and feel like I have a long way to go before even being able to realistically following the Training that starts in Oct. from the Run DIsney site.

I have started a blog to help keep me going and to help me connect with others that may have a looong way to go to complete our goal!;)
I get more excited everyday... except for when I feel totally overwhelmed and want to quit!! LOL:rotfl:

I keep going back and forth on signing up for the Royal Family 5K on Saturday. I think it would be fun just to walk it and get some pics. My question is what do you all think would be an okay time to make a reservation for breakfast? I'm thinking either Boma's or Kona's. I haven't done either for breakfast yet.

Oh, and I have no problem going straight from the race to breakfast. I figure I won't get much sweatier than if I had been walking around the parks. :rotfl: If we do Kona's then we can just hop on the monorail, so I could probably make that reservation a little earlier. To do Boma's, we'd have to hop on a bus. Of course, I haven't discussed any of this with my friend who's joining me, but she's not a planner and we'll be seeing each other in a few weeks for a short vacation, so I figured I'd discuss all of this with her then.

If I do the race/breakfast, then my plan for the rest of the day is to enjoy the pool and relax at AoA until dinner. If I don't do the race/breakfast, then I'm thinking Hollywood Studios for a short day.

thanks for any thoughts

Holly

Completely understand! I REALLY want to do a fall 10K because I don't trust that my Rockfest time will be decent enough to get a better corral placement. But, I haven't found any local that work with my schedule and I'm out of $$ so going out of town for a race is a no-go.

After about a month of being stalled at 5 miles, I finally did a 6 mile run while on vacation. I had to walk a bit (the banking on the side of the road was a bit more than I'm used to here) and stretch a lot, but it was a nice run and the last 2-3 miles were all uphill. Finished in 1:10, so I was pretty happy with that. At least I finally made it through Magic Kingdom on my map!!!

ETA: Just saw a listing for Great Pumpkin 10K, but I can't find a webpage for it. I'll have to keep checking, but maybe I just found a 10K to do!

Great job on the run!!Do you remember where (what state) the Great Pumpkin 10k was?

"Look at that fat girl running. Who is she kidding? *giggle, giggle*" That's what I heard this morning when I passed some women walking. Those ladies can suck it. I may be bigger than them, but I got there before them, left after them, and ran while they were walking and gossiping.:cool1:

OMG!! I can't believe it! Some People just disgust me! You go girl!!

Too bad you won't be at the Rockfest, but I think I'd do the Disneyland Half too if I had the chance. You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back.

Great job on the 6 miles!! I don't think my time from the Rockfest Half will be anything to write home about. I did 9 miles over the weekned in 2:10 and according to a race calculator, that puts me at a 3:14 half. Although, I really think I could knock about six or so minutes off that, but who knows.

I know it's not too local but there's the 6.66 Mile Devils Chase in Salem, MA at the end of October. I think I may do that one. Mostly just for fun and a chance to dress up a little.

Anyone else in the area looking for a 10K, I do know of one on Thanksgiving Day in Lowell, MA. It's not convenient for me, but they do give eveyone who finishes a pie!

Those women suck!! And I attribute their attitude to jealousy. I'm overweight, but I've never had another runner/run-walker say anything negative to me. But I did have a guy and his girlfriend (who were just strolling along) make a snide comment loud enough for me to hear. It was an out/back trail and he made some comment that I didn't quite hear all of but I heard enough. It made me feel like crap and it made me want to stop, but I didn't. When I passed them on my way back I gave them a silent F-You. And it was a day I was doing that trail twice, so I passed them again and was still going strong, so I figured I showed them. I just told myself they were jealous because they were probably too scared to even try what we're all attempting to do by challenging ourselves.

Holly

I did the Lowell 10k last year on Thanksgiving Day, I also saw the devils chase 666 and was thinking about signing up for that this year to use as my 10k time. As I am sure The Rockfest will not be a time that I will want to use either. There is also Tufts 10k in Boston on Columbus day which is a Monday

Unbelievable. It's hard to believe behavior like that from ADULTS still surprises me, but it does. What a couple of jerks. You can rest assured though, that they have NEVER mustered up the courage to train for any sort of running event. I believe anyone who has and knows what it takes, whether they be 8 minute milers or 18 minute milers, respects anyone one else who's out there doing it. If you see them regularly, make sure you get the "I DID IT!" finisher shirt at the expo on race weekend and wear it proudly! Suck on that HATERS!

Wow - I mean, seriously, WOW. :furious: What is wrong with people?! Do NOT let the stupidity and ignorance of others make you feel like anything less than a rockstar - YOU are out there, getting it done! :woohoo:

Thanks! I need to pull out our itinerary and see where I can fit some runs in. When we first started planning the trip, I hadn't decided to do the half yet, so I might have to rework some things. I'll only be up to about 3 miles by then, so it won't be a huge problem to be done by the time everyone else gets up. :thumbsup2
Yeah, I tweaked some things to fit in my runs, too. I have to say, though, I found it much easier to get up and do it early at WDW than I do at home... every time I was like, "Yay, I get to run AT DISNEY today!"

This terrible, but I have a 10k in 3 weeks and I know my time for that will be a bit faster than my half time but I am going to use that. I do have my first half in 6 weeks but I don't think my time will be all that great. Currently 13 min/ mile when doing my long distances but 10-11 on shorter.

I'm not sure if I'll see them regularly (had to push my time back later now that the kids are in school, and I do live in a tourist area and run right next to a campground). If I do, I full intend on wearing every single race shirt as I acquire then. The Princess "I did it!" is on my must have list. :thumbsup2

They suck! You keep rockin' those miles! I've been passed by many women (and men) who were bigger than me. It's not all about size--that's for sure. I bet that they couldn't keep up with you if they tried!

Pie?! Yum! I think we'll be away for Thanksgiving, but maybe next year. :)

It's in Saco, Maine. I can't find any website for it, but the registration is open on active.com and there are race results from previous years.

For the most part, at the race, everyone will be supportive of each other. I say for the most part because there are still snobs at these races that think they are better than everyone, or in my case cause I was a guy running the princess race dressed as a princess, one lady gave me the rudest evil look, though most loved it. Best thing to do is just ignore them because if people have to act like that, then they must not have any friends or just have a bad view on life. One should not care what others do, best thing to do is be friendly and encouraging to all people.

Even at my first race I did, I was placed in the last corral due to no proof and no knowledge on how the system worked. I saw a lot of people that probably did not finish or could not finish, but everyone was encouraging and I respected them cause they did that many more miles than those did not even start. Overall though, you will find great support from the other runners and the crowd, though those dressed up usually receive more attention. That is what I have noticed in the past that when I wear a dress/costume, I get lots of attention and encouragement, though I just do it for the fun of it.

I would start now. I start with the Galloway conditioning program and then I moved into the 10K and I will start Princess in October. I know there is no way I would have been able to jump right into PHM training without starting somewhere

Talk to me about running on vacation. We're heading to WDW in Oct. Should I stick with 3-4 days of running? Do I run the same distance, or should I take it easy, since I'll be walking a billion miles a day as well?

I took it easy. We walked so much in June and it was SO HOT. I was bad but I just could not run there

That is horrible. Keep running and be proud of how much more you are doing than they are!!

Go for it, they account for it and if they only wanted 1/2 marathon times, they would not not 10K's!

People can be horrible but I am glad you felt more support! I think you running the race and dressing up is awesome! I can't wait to see you this year!

I'm so sorry! People can be so unkind! You keep running and don't listen to them, you ROCK!!!

Wow. People suck sometimes. Attribute it to jealousy or maybe they are just bad people, but you at least kept going and showed them that you're better then whatever mean girl comment they might conjure up.

Ugh...those people make me so mad! :headache: I usually get the fat calls out the windows of teenager's in my neighborhood, I know damn well that 1/2 their moms are probably 300+ lbs! I also get the weird looks on people's faces when I tell them I training for a 1/2 marathon. I run 4x a week and watch/count everything that goes into my mouth, I'm just not a skinny minnie running type and never will be. I'm half Hawaiian and proud to be curvy and full figured like my ancestors! People make me so mad!!

I see we might be going to Disney the same time as you in October. I'm, impatiently, waiting for the AP prices to come out.

Keep running and screw those ladies! All they can brag about is walking, probably slowly, and gossiping while they do it.

My 1st half was the Princess 2011. I was overweight when I started training (still am ~ and I'm training for my 3rd). We had a great running trail close to our home. Unfortunately it went by the local jr./sr. high schools. On one of my first run/walk's a truck of high school boys drove by and yelled, 'Keep running! You have a long way to go!"

At first, it hurt my feelings and I wanted to quit but I kept going and the more I thought about it the more motivation it gave me. I did have a long way to go to get to the finish line of a half marathon. But I did it! I still have a long way to go to lose weight but I will do that too!

No matter what ~ keep training. The finish line feels so good!!

Merci

We'll be there Oct 6-14, right now at POR in a royal room. If a decent AP discount comes out, we'll probably do a split stay - 4 nights at POR, 4 nights at BWI. I'm really ready for those AP rates to come out. I want to finalize our plans already! My classes start on Wed, so I'm trying to get that stuff worked out before I go back.

We are going Oct 12 - 15, waiting for those darn AP rates to come out for us to make our final decision. If it's good enough we're looking at Yacht Club, if not we're either staying POR or CBR. POR is nice. First trip without kiddos since our honeymoon. Squee!! Not that I don't love my kids, cuz I love them tons. This is our first trip period without them. It will be hard leaving them. Our plane lands back home at 11 am and I have a 5 hour long ecology lab class at 1, blech.

We went without the kids in Dec and had so much fun! It's fun with the kids, but it was also fun speedwalking to make 1 last ride on Test Track at 12:30 AM.

I'm probably missing my ecology lab for our trip. My other Wed lab is cancelled that week, since it's a short week. My darn ecology professor doesn't have the syllabus up yet. :rolleyes2

People can be so mean and ignorant !!!! I am so sorry you had to deal with that this morning.

I'm am SO glad you got to your location before them and you ran when they were walking !!! Good for you !!!!
