All I can say is keep trying. We started Noah on food about a month ago and it was finally this week that I think he's actually getting it. We started with cereal and then tried bananas and applesauce and nothing seemed to work. My mom had some green beans so we tried those and he loved them. Now he's had green beans and sweat potatoes which I can tell he loves and he even will eat his cereal. I tried bananas again last night and he ate them but not like he eats his veggies. LOL

So far we've just been feeding him at home but we are going to send cereal to his daycare next week so they can try to get another feeding in him during the day. Does anyone know how much food they are supposed to be getting? I feel like he should be eating more then he is but I guess with his bottles he just needs whatever food he wants. He seems to be full so I don't want to force more food on him if he doesn't want it.

Amber,
It takes about a week of trying to feed him before he will get the idea that this is what he is supposed to eat. Don't give up.
We always started with veggies since they tasted the worst then moved to fruits. After a bit, add the cereal to the food to thicken it up. If he doesn't like rice, try barley or oatmeal.
Good luck!

Jenny,
You may want to cut back on the amount of milk in the bottle at one feeding by half. Feed the food first and then let him top off with the milk.
He'll let you know if he is full or still hungry.

Sam & Zoe split about 5 ounces for fairly thick food (I make my own) plus whatever finger food I can get them to practice on. They still drink 4 bottles a day at almost 9 1/2 months. I have taked solid foods pretty slow with them, since they are kinda gaggers, esp. Zoe who is a puker, but is getting better. I just don't sweat bottles and food, they will get it eventually. We practice finger foods at each meal, and I figure that we will work on dropping bottles as we get closer to a year. They still really need the calories! They do great with sippies of water, so when we are ready for cows milk I don't think it will be a problem to use a sippy for milk too.

How old is Spencer? You can keep trying with the solids, but if he isnt quite ready yet, you can always wait another week or 2 and try again. Until about a year, a majority of calories should come from BM or formula.

Thanks for the advice.

Spencer is almost 6 months. He acts like he is ready to eat (moving his lips when we eat, grabbing for food, etc) but he just doesn't like actually eating.

I'm not stressing about it; I figure he'll eat eventually. I'm taking it slow, but I am glad to hear that other people have had similar experiences. Talking to my MIL you would think there is something wrong with him, because all babies she's been around have no problem with eating ever.

I started Sam & Zoe at about 5 1/2 months, and it seems that finally in the last few weeks Zoe seems to be much easier to feed. She is just not a big eater. Sam has liked eating from the beginning, but seems to have a harder time with the finger food. I don't know what his deal is with banana. Pureed he seems to like them, but he has issues and has puked a couple of times when I have given them a huge piece to gum. I guess it's slippery and he gets too big of a bite and can't chew it well....

I'm not really stessing the food either. I kindof figure he'll get it soon enough. Noahs bottle intake has gone down some. I still make full bottles but there are usually a couple he doesn't finish. I can tell when he's done and his daycare is pretty good too they don't force him to finish his bottle if he doesn't want it. I told them if he's done just throw it away. I've been working on the sippy cup too but only sporadically however this week I've given it to him a couple times and he has the right idea just not quit enough tilt yet. I'm sure it will be soon.

When do you start working on finger foods? The only finger stuff I've given to him was the dill pickle slice from my mom and a piece of banana and both of those went right to his mouth so maybe we have that one pretty well under control. LOL

I did get a couple of those mesh feeders but I'm not sure what to put in them. What all are you putting in them?

We have been slowly working on finger foods over the last 3 weeks or so (they are 9 1/2 months)....it took that long for Zoe to even be able to eat a cheerio without gagging/puking. We have done biter biscuits and rice crakers for a couple of months though.

The twins have not really cared for the Mesh feeders (they prefer to chew the handle). You could put chunks of sweet potato in there , avacado, mango, banana, peach slices. Anything that will kinda mush through the holes. I might try some ice cubes in mine for teething pain if the twins seem like they need it.

Oh, Jenny....the twins love to suck on a pickle spear! They also love love love ricotta cheese. We eat some almost every day with lunch!

I'll have to hold off on the cheese since we still haven't heard from the doctor about the official allergic to milk or not diagnosis. We know he is from our notes but we're waiting on the blood test results. I'm trying to be careful with introducing new foods only one a week but nothing this week since I know my mom will give him something off the charts this weekend. As long as its not dairy I just let her try it. I'll have to get some of those crackers or biter bisquits and see how he does. He'll be 7 months tomorrow which is so hard to believe. Where has the time gone already.

Wal-mart sells the rice crackers in the baby food isle..they are called Baby Mum-Mum or something like that..but I think they might have some milk (probably powdered milk) in them...does that kind of think bother Noah?

The twins love them, and they are easy to chew/gum. The twins have also done well with the beech nut brand puffs. The gerber ones they would gag on, and same with the wal-mart brand.

I'm not sure about the powdered milk in them. Basically the doctor said we'll just have to try things and see what bothers him and what doesn't. We know that the regular and soy formula did but we haven't found anything else yet. When he starts to outgrow formula I'm not sure what we are going to do. At our next appointment he'll be 9 months we are going to go over the steps to get him onto more adult food and stuff like that but even then the doctor said its basically trial and error since he could outgrow this and you just don't know when that will happen. We are lucky in the sense that his allergy comes out as ezcema so yes its annoying and looks bad but its able to be dealt with so we can try things a little easier then some with more sever reactions.

You may have to end up trying rice milk. I remember hearing that a lot of allergies with the excema reation babies do eventually outgrow them. Hopefully with Noah if he does have allergies they will not be long lived!

So yesterday was Christopher's last bottle of formula :guilty: Why does that sound so grown up? I'll love not having to buy the stuff anymore though :cool1:

He's been a bit of a crabcake lately - he's getting in 2 molars right now, so he's wicked clingy, and only Mommy will do. Which doesn't work well when Mommy has to get stuff done and he's hanging out with Daddy for the day. Somehow canning and Christopher don't mix well - the help isn't helpful....

Does anyone have any ideas what they're doing for Halloween? I can't decide what Christopher will be. I suppose it will depend on what I can find or make for a costume :)

I have lost 2.6 pounds since starting on Diet Power (even though I was really stressed last night and made unhealthy choices). But, today is a new day! And I'm feeling pretty motivated! :yay:

Yay Becky! :cheer2:

He still reaches for food, but just doesn't want to actually eat anything.

Any advice?

I agree with everyone else's advice to just keep trying new foods. DS didn't like the rice cereal much at first either, but he did like oatmeal. He also didn't like foods that were too liquidy and liked more substance to them, so try playing around with different foods and textures.

They do great with sippies of water, so when we are ready for cows milk I don't think it will be a problem to use a sippy for milk too.

That is exactly what I did with Alex right around his first birthday, and it went so smoothly. I started giving him a sippy with formula/milk for his mid-day meal at first, then moved to all meals and he never missed the bottle at all! :thumbsup2

I'm still thinking about it. I think Alex would like to be a puppy, b/c he loves dogs so much and barks whenever he sees one, so it would be so cute. Plus there are some adorable dalmation costume! :goodvibes

The only thing I worry about is how hot it will still be here in AZ at the end of October. Most of the dog costumes are a heavier material, and I don't want him to be too hot.

What is everyone else doing?

Beck- good job on the diet!

Jenny- i am with Meredith- Will didn't like the mesh feeder, he just chewed the handle instead. we put peaches in it and watermelon too. He ended up throwing it down and the dogs got it instead. lol I can't remember when we started on the cereal and food, but it was like 5-6 months. they say start wtih veggies first of course cuz you don't want them loving the sweet fruits and then not wanting veggies. I added a little rice cereal to thicken them up. Will moved pretty fast to the stage 3s and now i am giving him a lot of table food. When we have chicken breast, so does he, just torn into TINY pieces. i give him peas and carrots from a can or frozen that he eats with his hands himself. He likes feeding himself. We use the puffs a lot too- and cheerios. he just now is getting his first tooth at 10months, but still can eat all that. we didn't cut his bottles back a ton - he takes four 7 oz bottles a day still. I specifically asked the doc about cutting it back and he said no, not for now. He has one at 9am, 1pm, 5pm and 8pm. he has baby food/table food at 7am, 11:30am and 6pm. So he always gets food first, then bottle later.

Jen- i got Will a pirate baby costume for like $15 online. It is pretty simple, but cute. We are doing a pirate themed bday party for him- he was born on Oct 30th- the day before halloween, so i thought dressing up would be fun for his party and theme.

I have no idea what we will do for Halloween. It will still be too hot here to wear much unless we go to the mall for trick or treating. I doubt we will even do that. Maybe we will have a little dinner party and invite some friends over. That's what we did for his birthday ...

I like the puppy idea or an Elmo costume ... I think they are still just a little too young to get it! Maybe next year!!

I got this pirate costume at the Disney Outlet for $7! Little man hates getting his picture taken.

Ok...I've been MIA again, very busy. But I needed to come on and post. After deciding to take the month off of TTC....you know what they say, when you stop trying. I just had a feeling (I've been more exhausted then normal the last few days). So I got a test on the way home!!

I'll read thru and catch up on everyones posts. Of course, I find out as I'm going to be starting my new job. OOPS.

Becky - Nice job on the weight-loss!! :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work!!

As for all the food talk....

Amber - I would just keep presenting the food....eventually he will get the hang of it! ;)

Jen - That is great that Christopher is off formula! We transitioned Brady right at 1 year, and it was nice to be able to just get him milk for meals when we were out and about!

Pollito - I love the idea of Alex as a dalmation!!! Too cute!!! Brady is going to be Winnie the Pooh. I got his costume last year when all the costumes were on clearance at The Disney Store. I am hoping it will fit him!!

DVCsince02 - That is a GREAT pic of your DS and DD!!! So cute as a princess: and a pirate: !

So these past few days have been kinda stressful around here. I was having a lot of backpain, so went to the doc, only to find that there was blood in my urine (not visible, but evident in a culture). Today I had an appointment with a urologist, and they confirmed blood in my urine and are sending me for a CT scan of my upper/lower abdomen, cytology of my urine (to look for abnormal cells), and a cytolo-something (can't remember the technical term) on Sept. 30th where they take a camera up my urethra to check for abnormalities (sounds oh-so-fun!!). They said with my history, and being so young, it could simply be a cyst or kidney stones, but that they need to be thorough because tumors and other abnormalites present as the same way. GREAT. Like this is what I want to worry about 3 days before I go to Disney!!!! :sad2: I am trying to stay positive and not think about it too much. But, I am a naturally anxious person, and a worry-wart, so it is hard. Hopefully I can keep busy packing and then enjoy my trip regardless of what happens!! Any extra prayers and thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! :goodvibes

Ohmigosh, I had a kidney stone about 3 months after I had Vaylie. WORST. PAIN. OF. MY. LIFE. Bar none. I'd take 3 more c-sections over another kidney stone.

But, you may have had a small one and passed it already- it'll "scratch" on it's way down and hence the blood in your urine. The symptoms are right for one. Maybe you got super lucky and it's already gone and you can be on your way to WDW! ;)

I'm waiting until next week to test. I don't think it will be this month, but I'm hoping!
