P.S. We had Electic Company on the west coast, too.

I know, I know...I was working on it yesterday at lunch time and had a good deal of it done, ready to post....and poof...I had a blonde moment and hit "no" to "Do you want to save these changes" :headache:

Now I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN...big heavy sigh...:sad2:

Be patient....it's coming, I swear...:hippie:

P.S. I've learned the hard way to copy and paste my TR post as I'm writing it, into either a new Word doc, or if I'm lazy, into a new e-mail message. That way, if the post blows up when I submit it, I have a back-up...

I didn't know the Big Dipper Ursa Major thing. Or the cloud thing....or the largest bear....hmm.... Alrighty smarty pants 5th graders, how 'bout we do some Calculus? Or let's reconcile some FAS91 accounts! See how smart you are now! :rotfl2:

LL, sorry about your blonde moment. At least you weren't having a senior moment!

I caught that, Lauralee!
Excuse me.... how is it my fault that you're reading Umama and V's trip reports???:confused3 Is your reasoning like your fuzzy Disney math?? :lmao:

I have gotten SO addicted to that show!!:happytv:

And I have discovered, that sadly, I am NOT smarter than a fifth grader. Or a first grader who likes animal science...:sad2:

That's exactly why I haven't even tried watching it! Listen, I'm pretty good with useless information and history - I love me a rip-roaring game of Trivial Pursuit! - but forget all that science and math stuff. And my geographical knowledge is forever stuck in the world as it was in 1987.

Wide awake again…5:15. I make a pot of coffee….and oh, can I just say that ONE MORE thing I love about SSR, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I recall a bigger coffee pot. Sweet. And I just love, love, love sitting outside in the morning with my coffee here. It’s so quiet and the grounds are just so lovely and peaceful…

This one particular morning was a perfectly Disney day…It was warm already before the sun even came up and as the sun began to rise, this was the scene I had to look at….
100_4330.jpg

I was just so excited – seriously. The day just FELT magical, and I hadn’t even showered yet!

I grabbed my camera and took a couple of pictures, and then these fellas rose from the sky as well. I’m telling you guys…a perfectly Disney day. My pics don't really do them justice, but at one point there were 6 balloons rising up over the resort at one time. Very pretty sight.
100_4337.jpg

DH is even sicker today so he’s staying at the hotel. Not me baby. No way. I took a nap yesterday and I promised Michael an afternoon at the pool. I’ve done my charity work for the week.

DS and I were going to spend the morning at MK. Just the two of us. I was really excited at the thought of this. It made me think of the many trips my mom had taken me here. Just her and I. And now, here I was, all grown up and bringing my baby to the MK for the day. Just he and I.

Now for those of you who haven’t yet met my little man, he’s about the coolest little guy I know. He’s got a great sense of humor, is a very good boy (most of the time!) and is a lot of fun. I was really excited about the prospect of spending the day alone with him here. Especially on such a perfect day. It was warm and breezy…not a cloud in the sky. It was gonna be a good day. I could just feel it!!

I let him sleep in a bit and we took our time getting out of our room, but still made it to the bus stop by 9:00. And – here’s a mental picture for you – we skipped. All the way to the bus stop. Singing “We’re going to the Magic Kingdom” over and over again. Picture Dorothy and pals following the yellow brick road. It was like that. Yep. It was quite a sight.

On the bus I told DS that this was going to be a great day. I told him how his Nana used to take me to the Magic Kingdom and it would just be her and I and that today would be special since it was just the 2 of us…

It was going to be a magical day. I was sure of it.

We got to the MK and saw this, for the Pirate and Princess Party – the first night of which was to be the following night, the 22nd, which we were going to sadly miss.
100_4339.jpg

Had Southwest “Ding’ed” me, we would have been able to stay for that – which was in my initial “plan”, but they didn’t, so we couldn’t. We were flying out on Monday afternoon. Bummer. I’m already disappointed that we’ll miss it, but darn glad to be here at all!

At the turnstiles, we were greeted by a very friendly CM who told us that we couldn’t start our day without a little pixie dust! She then gave us each some sparkly, different colored Mickey head confetti. Michael screamed at the top of his little lungs looking at what was in his hand…MOM!!! She gave me PIXIE DUST!! REAL, LIVE PIXIE DUST!!” pixiedust: It was so unbelievably cute. And loud. He got the attention of everyone around him who enjoyed this little spectacle of Disney Magic. The CM enjoyed his reaction and we both told her “Thank you and Have a Magical Day!”:wizard:

Off we went to get a stroller. I had thought of skipping out on a stroller all together this day. We were, after all, only going to be here for half a day. Remember – I promised Michael we’d spend the afternoon at the pool. Kinder, gentler me….yada yada yada…

I was already regretting that decision. It was a beautiful day. And just my baby and me. I was already a bit bummed that we were going to leave early and we hadn’t even gotten to walk up Main Street yet. Ok, so we’ll get a stroller…we can move twice as fast that way. Ok kiddo. Get in and hang on. Here we go!

We met a very nice Photopass photographer on Main Street. Ooh – look Michael – Photopass!!! Let’s get our picture taken!! And his reaction? UNLIKE his dad, he hopped out of the stroller before I could even bring the vehicle to a complete stop and dashed to the center of the street. We spent a moment chatting with the nice lady and she took a couple of pictures of us and we were back on our way again.

We pulled over to the information board and came up with a plan. Well, ok, it wasn’t a plan so much as “What do you want to do”…and, his answer was “BIG THUNDER MOUNTAIN!!” Ok, Number One. Make it so. We also decided that we should take a lot of pictures of us so Daddy could see them since he was too sick to join us today. Sounds like a plan, Stan.

So we headed into Adventureland, chatting about how we were going to spend our day. He wanted to do the Jungle Cruise, and ride Aladdin’s carpet and I wanted to go see my favorite pirate. We grabbed FP’s for Jungle Cruise, even though there really wasn’t much of a wait. His idea, not mine. I wanted to go on JC right then. He wanted to head to BTMR. So we grabbed a couple FP’s and decided to come back later.

He couldn’t walk past Aladdin’s carpet ride though, so we jumped on line for that. It was a short line and we were in our carpet within minutes. After that was over, we continued heading towards BTMR. As we approached POTC, I convinced DS to deviate from his little plan to take a few minutes here. And what’s this? Is it closed? There isn’t a soul in sight. Nope – it’s open! And it’s all ours! We couldn’t pass this opportunity up! We quickly dumped the stroller and headed inside. Seriously…not another person even walking towards the ride. Just us. Sweet!

We walked all the way in and immediately on our own boat. Yep. Just me, my baby and Captain Jack. We love this ride. And today was no exception. In fact, it was better. DS could see everything from the front seat of our boat and it was like riding a whole new ride for him. He was just thrilled. So when the ride was over and we headed out into the sunlight again, we decided to ride again. I love this kid! We rode again, this time with a group of 3 people who walked in with us, but again there was no line, we walked right in and right to a boat. And we again got the front of the boat. See – the Magical Pixie Dust works!!!pixiedust:

We decided to head back to the Jungle Cruise and just left our stroller in the Pirates parking area since we were coming right back after our ride. By the time we got back to the JC, there was a 20 minute wait and we were glad we had our FP’s. The FP line was all ours and we zipped right through, and again, right onto a boat.

Our guide for this adventure was Hallie. She was great. Energetic. Funny. And loud. DS had a ball. She really did a great job and we both enjoyed this ride. Always one of our favorites, but as you know, your tour guide can make or break this ride for you.
100_4348.jpg

Michael loves this ride almost as much as the safari at AK. I'm assuming he knows the animals aren't real.... but he gets awfully excited and points out what animals he wants me to take pictures of so I'm really not sure....
100_4350.jpg

After cruising through the jungle and living to tell about it, we made tracks for BTMR. We love this ride. We saw that there was again no wait, but decided to grab FP’s so we can ride again later, and we swung by the machines before going on. Michael loves to get the FP’s and has gotten quite good at it so I gave him our passes and he went to work. Out came one….and then we heard this really odd grinding sound…Uh Oh…it ate our AP!! The CM came over to fix it and it started spitting out FP’s like crazy…We got 2 sets! Woo Hooo…have a Magical Day Lauralee131!!!

We went and got on the standby line, saving our FP’s like they were gold. We only had a 10 minute wait, so why waste FP’s now? We got on rather quickly and had almost too much room in the car with just the two of us. Usually DH is with us and the three of us are packed in pretty tightly with DS in the middle, arms up the whole time.

But this ride, with just the two of us, we had a lot of “wiggle” room and the first time Michael put his arms up, he slid across the seat and that scared the pants off him. So he hung on to the bar the whole time, but laughed all through the ride. This time I was on the “Squisher” side and he was the “Squishee”. Note to self, switch sides next time!

After the ride was over, I took a little 5 minute break before we got on again.
100_4363.jpg

This time the wait was up to 20 minutes, so I was glad we saved our FP’s. There was some kind of delay that stopped us mid-way through the ride and they were running empty trains. Uh oh…I was hoping that they weren’t going to shut it down or something. But after a little bit we were moving again. We switched sides this time and Michael got to be the “Squisher” and he just thought that was the greatest thing ever.

After our second ride I had a bit of a headache and we were started getting hungry so we decided to take a break and have lunch and come back and ride again.

We went over to Columbia Harbor House for chicken and fish and sat outside enjoying the beautiful weather. The park was clearly getting more crowded now and it was getting warmer. We had a great “people watching” table and took a nice long lunch break, talking about the fun we’ve had and how we were going to call it an early day and go swimming. He was pretty excited to check out the pool at SSR.

I really enjoyed our little lunch break. We had a yummy meal and good conversation. Since we were here, I asked if he wanted to ride Haunted Mansion real quick. No. “It freaks me out” he said. Bummer. I want to ride it! Finally we decided we were done with lunch and were going to head back to BTMR for one more ride. Michael wanted to take his last piece of chicken with him. Sure. You can eat it in the stroller on the way there. No. He didn’t want to eat it. He wanted to bring it back to the hotel for Daddy because he might be hungry. Awwww…sweet little guy. I finally convinced him that saving the chicken for Daddy, although very nice of him, wasn’t the best thing to do so he finished it and we were on our way.

We rode BTMR one last time and decided to go and check out the Splash Mountain store…I had to laugh at the huge number of people outside that were asking the CM’s if Splash Mountain was open. Are you kidding me?? I admit, we were disappointed that it was closed. It was a perfect day for a water ride.

We cruised through the store looking for ANYTHING with BTMR on it, but came up empty handed. Ah well. We had a nice time visiting with the CM’s in there anyway. Outside we decided on grabbing some Mickey bars. Yeah, yeah, I know…we just ate. Once again, there’s always room for Mickey bars!

We found ourselves a bench and took a nice relaxing break with our ice cream and this adorable little girl came up and started chatting with Michael. She was adorable. 5 going on 15 and very chatty. She asked Michael a million questions and answered all of them FOR HIM. Cute. Like they were married! He had that glazed over look that DH gets a lot. He finally leaned over to me and said he was “sick and tired” of listening to her. It was adorable. I reminded him to be nice and he let out a heavy sigh. Eventually she and her parents were on their way and no sooner did they leave and he said “WOW I thought she’d never stop talking”. Yep…just like his dad!

Before we knew it, it was almost time for the parade so we decided to scope out a good seat and then head back to the hotel afterward to go swimming. There was a lovely older woman CM who came walking up in the middle of the street with a few hula hoops asking the kids if anyone knew how to use them. Before I knew it, Michael was up and in the middle of street demonstrating his hula hoop skills for everyone waiting for the parade to start.
100_4364.jpg

And he wasn’t about to stop either. He was working the crowd, telling them all “Watch me, watch what I can do”.
100_4366.jpg

At one point he even scolded the people near us for not paying attention to him! When the CM finally convinced him to give up his hula hoop she rewarded him with a half dozen Mickey stickers. What a magical day for him. He was thrilled with his little prizes and immediately started deciding which one to set aside for Daddy, which one to give me and which ones to put on his shirt. What a good boy I have!

The marching bands were announced – and one was from North Carolina…East Wake High School and Michael got all excited when he heard the announcer say North Carolina. They were very good and we enjoyed watching and listening to both bands, but I can’t recall where the other one was from.
100_4369.jpg

Finally the parade started and Michael had a great time “trying” to interact with the characters.
100_4373.jpg

They weren’t as “playful” as they are in the MGM parade, but he had a great time.
100_4392.jpg

I love the villain float!!!
100_4395.jpg

There was even a fairy wardrobe malfunction that we saw, but the character handler danced while trying to fix it so as to blend in.
100_4413.jpg

100_4403.jpg

Later when viewing our pictures, DH is sorry for missing the parade...
100_4388.jpg

The parade always makes me cry. Any parade actually. I get all “verklempt” every single time. Even looking at the pictures deciding which ones to upload, I’m getting “verklempt” all over again.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Sniff…sniff…

I’ll give you a topic.

A guinea pig is neither Italian, nor Pork.

Discuss…

Ahem.

After the parade passed by us, we beat feet outta there and back to Main Street. The parade was already coming down Main Street so it was crowded, but a little bobbing and weaving and we were able to make pretty good time. We ran into the Emporium hoping to find a lunch box for Michael, but no such luck. We did manage to buy him some pirate ears and a new hat for Dad, sure to make him feel better.

Michael fell in love with his pirate ears at first sight and they were just so cute on him. He told his favorite joke (courtesy of his eye doctor) to the CM – What’s a pirate’s favorite letter? Arrrrrrrrrrr…..pirate:

They had girl pirate ears and now I’m sorry I didn’t get them for myself. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking…pretty immature. Whatever. They’d look cute on the shelf in my office though.

We turned in our stroller and headed out, stopping for one last look at our happy place for awhile. See you in 7 months Mickey!!
100_4417.jpg

100_4418.jpg

We got back to the room and Dad was laying on the bed watching football…the Bears game had just started…He had no interest in going to the pool, so Michael and I did the quick change into our suits, threw some clothes on over them and headed to the pool.

It was a short walk to the big pool and we scoped out a couple of chairs for ouselves, threw our stuff down and headed for the water. Michael has a little swim vest so as not to immediately sink to the bottom and he wanted to go on the slide. Hmmmmm …I don’t think we can wear a vest on the slide, Buddy, but let’s go ask the lifeguard. We got out of the pool and asked the lifeguard if vests are allowed on the slide. He said usually not, but go right ahead. Are you sure? Yes, and thank you so much for asking! He made an awful big deal about me simply asking whether or not Michael could wear his vest. Is there some kind of issue with that?

Secretly I was a bit bummed that he said yes. I’m not a big fan of the water, to be honest with you. And, with it being just the two of us, how could I take him up to the slide and be at the bottom waiting for him? Hmmmmm….he went on the “baby” slide and it wasn’t “wild” enough for him. He was insisting on the big slide.

Sorry Buddy, if Daddy was here he could take you up to the top and I could wait at the bottom, but with just me here, I don’t think the slide is a good idea. He was devastated. Then he came up with a plan. You could just go on the slide with me Mom. Exqueeze me? Baking powder? ME???? On THAT??!??! Turns out the kid had an answer for everything. You go down first Mom. Wait for me at the bottom. See? We don’t need Daddy here for that. Grrrr….he had a point. But how could I go down the slide and not be at the top to be sure you get on safely. MOM…I’m a big boy. I can go down by myself. You go first and wait at the bottom. I’ll be fine.

Brat.

So….I agreed to at least go and scope it out. Although I wasn’t crazy about his idea, it was the only one that would work. Which meant I’d have to go down the slide. Alone. And trust him to go down after me. Alone.

We walked up to the top and stood off to the side watching the other kids for a moment. One thing that relieved me was the little traffic light at the top of the slide. You could go when it turned green. I felt a bit safer. For him. Not so much for me. So I drilled it into his little head that you had to wait for the green light. You had to sit up or lay on your back and NOT go head first. Over and over again I repeated these warnings. Hoping that he’d think it was way too much trouble and give up. Nope. No such luck. MOM…I KNOW…just GO already!!

I drilled the rules in his head again and there was no more putting it off. I had to go down. Alone. GULP.

Ok. Here I go. I sat on the top and waited for the green light. One night thing was the water was really warm. Ok, green light. GO MOM. It’s GREEN!!

Down I went. Screaming like a little school girl the whole way.

It was embarrassing. But I did it.

And it was fun! I didn’t drown. I didn’t even swallow any water or get any up my nose. And it wasn’t too deep at the bottom. I was able to stand up, and walk away from the mouth of the slide to wait for DS to come down.

And I waited.

And waited.

Where is he??

Panic had officially set in. I looked to the lifeguard. He didn’t look concerned that my baby still hadn’t come down yet. I looked to the top of the slide. He wasn’t there.

Oh my God…what if someone snatched him off the slide? Where’d he go????

And then I heard hysterical laughter and out he came! PHEW!!!

THAT WAS AWESOME!!! Let’s go again…

What? Again???

I don’t know if I can take any more of this…but ok, let’s go one more time…

And we did. Again.

And again. And again…

The sun was no longer shining on the pool so it was getting cold outside of the water…I tried to get him to stay in the water…and give up on the slide. Nope. But he gave me permission to sit this one out and just wait for him at the bottom.

Over and over again.

Finally I got him to get out of the water and take a break for a bit.

That’s when I discovered the heated towels…Ahhhhh…I LOVE THIS PLACE.

The pool bar was hopping too…They had the Bears game on and I enjoyed watching it snow on television while being at the pool! Michael decided to take a breather and dry off and wrapped himself in towels and lay down for a bit.

I wrapped myself in a warm towel too and went and grabbed myself a drink. And Michael and I enjoyed a nice relaxing break in our lounge chairs, reminiscing about our day. And I fell in love with SSR all over again.

I enjoyed watching the kids play in the pool. I enjoyed watching the adults relaxing and enjoying themselves…I guess you had to be there, but I was again digging this whole mid-day break idea again. This was even more fun than napping.

And I stared danger in the face and lived to tell about it.

The Bears game was almost over and we were getting hungry so we headed back to the room to see if DH was up to grabbing dinner.

Back at the room we changed out of our suits and convinced DH to go the restaurant here, The Turf Club, filling him in with the details of our day. When we walked up to the restaurant, which is next to the market, we found a great surprise. A clubhouse-type lounge, with couches, chairs, a big screen TV, a pool table and a bar…

I didn't take pictures of the room...I should have, but I have these...
100_4420.jpg

100_4423.jpg

I love this place more and more…Picture the scene, if you will – a bunch of adults sitting around the television with plates of appetizers in front of them; their kids – some in their pajamas – playing nearby, either with toys they brought with them or playing pool. Well, trying to play pool anyway. It just felt so cozy and friendly that I couldn’t help but enjoy it. I loved the family atmosphere and everyone was friendly. DH grabbed a table with a good view of the Patriot’s game which had just started and I went up to the bar to get us drinks while Michael headed over to play with the other kids.

I ordered a strawberry daiquiri for Tony and a Jack and Coke for me. Would you like to make that a double in a tall glass, Lauralee131? Well YEAH…thank you and have a magical day!! I ordered some appetizers with the bartender and she told me to “go ahead and sit and relax, I’ll bring you your food in a moment”…LOVE THIS PLACE. No one EVER tells me to “go ahead and sit and relax”.

When the drinks were made, they were HUGE…The bartender said “You better take a few sips out of that daiquiri before you walk away with it so it doesn’t spill on you”. OK, if I have to!! :rolleyes1 So I took one for the team and insured that the daiquiri wouldn’t spill and went back to the table with our drinks. It was yummy, by the way…

When she came over to bring our food, she said something about how she was surprised that he was drinking the daiquiri and I was drinking the Jack…DH kind of sighed heavily and said “Yeah, I get that a lot”…:sad2:

There was nice older gentleman who worked in the restaurant who kept coming out to our table in the lounge to chat about the game. You’d have thought we’d known him for years and we really enjoyed talking with him.

And I know I keep saying it over and over again, but I really love it here. It truly feels like your “Home Away From Home” and I was convinced after this short visit that buying into DVC was the single best investment we have made. And I know this was the No Plan vacation and all, but I think it was the environment we were in that made it feel so relaxing and I highly recommend it.

I stepped outside the patio seating area to have a quick butt break after I gave them our names for dinner…No ADR, we just asked if they could squeeze us in and it would be maybe a 20 minute wait. No problem. We’re doing just fine at our little table over there. Take your time…no hurry. The outside area was nice too…and there was a comfortable breeze blowing. I could definitely picture us enjoying eating out here in warmer weather.

After what seemed like only minutes our table was ready and we were seated next to a table of 2 couples who were very nice and we enjoyed chatting with them throughout dinner. Our “friend” from the lounge, who worked inside the restaurant, kept coming back to our table to chat and give us score updates. I wish I could remember his name. I didn’t write it down. But I do remember that he was from Long Island, so if you eat at Artist’s Palette and run into a kindly older gentleman from NY, that’s him. Take the time to talk to him. You’ll be glad you did.

The menu at The Turf Club isn’t huge by any means, but the food was great and we enjoyed a delicious meal. We’ll eat there again for sure. After dinner we watched a bit more of the game in the lounge and then headed back to our room for the night, fat and happy yet again.

The tears set in on our walk back to our room. I was sorry to be going home. Again. But looking forward to coming back. And we would have some time tomorrow to relax for a bit before heading to the airport for our 2pm flight. I don’t know if we’d have time to hit a park…or even if DH would be up for it. Maybe it’d be better if we just hung out around the resort until it was time to leave.

Michael was asleep as soon as his little head hit the pillow…

We stayed up for a while longer watching TV and then called it a night as well…

Up next…Now it’s time to say goodbye to all our company…

And a Dis'er encounter!!!

Wow! Sounds like a perfect day! :cloud9: I'm sorry your DH was sick, but being able to go out with just Micheal is priceless! :goodvibes Seeing those hot air balloons in the morning really set the stage for the day. How cool is that?!? SSR is really a great resort, isn't it? Michael looks like he was having a blast with the hula hoop! Thanks for the parade pictures. We didn't see it in December! :confused3 I'm glad you had a good time at the pool. The things we have to do to make our kids happy!? It's good to unwind and just be a kid again! The slide sounds fun. What did you end up having for dinner at the Artist’s Palette? We've never been there, and might try it on one of our DTD shopping days next time.

Sniff... it's ending too soon! :sad1: Take your time with the last installments, OK?

It was an awesome day! Oh and I went and corrected my TR - the restaurant is actually called Turf Club..Artist's Palette is the food court...My bad!

For dinner we both had the steak and it was very good. Michael had the mac 'n cheese and he really liked it. It wasn't the least expensive meal we've had, but not the most expensive either. Food was good, service was fabulous and the atmosphere was nice. I'll definitely go there again.

I'm not ready for this trip to end either...tell you what...it was nice to go for a long weekend using points.

:lmao: BUSTED!

What a cute intallment, girlfriend. I have to say Michael is totally adorable!:goodvibes The pic of him with his pirate ears infront of the train is so cute. He's got that "Yeah, I'm cool! Any questions?" look.

I'm so jealous of your special day. Alone. With your baby. In Magic Kingdom.
I never get to be alone with my babies in DLand. Someone always ends up joining us.:confused3 I think my family is just afraid I'll leave one or both in Dland. ;)

I have to admit, I'm with Michelle on this one.... linger with your last installments. I'm not ready to let this one go, just yet! :goodvibes

Those ears were on his head constantly except at dinner (and in the pool, of course)...wait till I write about our airport adventure...

To be honest, I was a bit nervous about our big alone day in the beginning...not sure exactly why...maybe the pressure of having to keep an eye on him alone, in such a big crowded place? I dunno. But it didn't last long...he proved himself to be an excellent touring companion! And oddly enough, he didn't pout, demand anything, act spoiled, etc...at all...a BIG difference from when he's out with both of us...he was so well behaved, and so mature...it was cool.:cool1:

Ok, but just remember...it was YOU TWO who told me this...it's in writing...I have proof...

I'm thinking I'm regreting that post now. Let me rephrase that....

Make your next installments linger a little bit(ish).;)

Well worth the wait! It is a bummer that your dh was ill, but things happen for a reason. This one may have been so you and the little guy could do a bit of momma and son bonding!

I am planning a mom & son trip this year and loved hearing how your mom and son day went.

BTW- DS is just adorable and has a great sense of humor already!

Don't wait too long to give us some more...but you can draw it out.
