Cmbar and anyone else thinking of writing a letter to GF management, just wanted to let you all know that they really do read your letters. I just received a phone call today from a CM thanking me for my letter and comments. They didn't address any of the specific issues other than acknowledging what I had in the letter (so I know they did read it). They did indicate that the letter would be sent to the GF so that the appropriate personnel that I mentioned would know that they are doing a good job and someone does appreciate them So, if you are thinking that writing a letter doesn't do any good, maybe you need to re-think that. I was impressed that they took the time to call.

Oh... just in case I forget...

I found a new product that I think will help everyone..

Was at Walmart last night and at the check out I found the TRAVEL sized - about the size of a roll of quarters... LySOL disinfectant!!!! I bought one just to have on hand... will probably get some more... that way I don't have to travel with the large can!!!

channing and grannyminnie, I hope you feel better soon.

Katesdad, where did you send your letter?

We just made a reservation for BC this Saturday (GF was full Sat) and GF from Sunday until Wednesday. We've only stayed at GF once briefly, and I think we were in Sago Cay. We booked a garden view and requested quiet and a king bed. It's just myself and DH. Is there anywhere (building, etc) you think we should request when we get there? We don't want to look at the pool because we have one in our backyard. Also, the woman who made our reservations (we booked direct) said there's construction. Does anyone have any updates on the construction and do you think it will affect us? I'm not sure what areas are under construction. I've been at BC and YC when they had scaffolding on the outside but it didn't affect us. Thanks for any help. :)

Thanks for starting this new thread!

Thanks, ufgator! I'm hobbling along, putting heat on it often.
As to the GF "construction", that must be the anticipated refurb of Sago Cay. We didn't hear or see anything last week, and that when it was supposed to begin, so it must have started now.

Curiousity is killing this cat! I'm a native South Carolinian...what food item do you give? Beacon sweet tea? Maurice's bbq sauce??:lmao:

Would that be the Beacon in Spartanburg? I haven't visited that "5 star" establishment in years. Now you have me cravin' some onion rings and sweet tea!:rotfl: Shame on you grannyminnie.:goodvibes

Absolutely...none other than the Beacon!! My husband was raised in those parts, and it was nectar from the gods to him!! We don't go much anymore as we don't live there, but even if we did, it's way more greasy than we eat now! Ya gotta love those onion rings, tho!

I am going to have to go check out that lysol!! thanks!

I hope you enjoy the AKL as much as I do, Heather! It's an awesome place, and so much to do there...
Be sure and try Boma, if you haven't already. Are you staying concierge? Sorry if you've mentioned so, and I've not read about your trip planning!

Hi All,

DW and I are back from our trip to the happiest place on earth! Overall the our stay at the GF was fantastic and I cringe each time I read a review that includes things I’ve never encountered at the GF and hopefully never will (mildew in bathrooms, stained furniture, etc…). I’ll try to keep my trip report brief, but detailed.

Arrival was smooth, Bell Services were top notch, check in CM was earning her ears, so that did not go so great, she was nice, but we had requested King Bed if available and she confirmed this, but low and behold when we arrived at our room it was 2 queens and a connecting room. The good news was it was in Boca Chica on the 4th floor and the room was beautiful and clean so we did not want to chance it and request to move to a new room. Only issue was that the new LCD TV did not work, a CM member came and fixed the problem within an hour – he had to go back to his shop and get a new digital converter for the TV – he apologized, made no excuses and gets Thumbs Up for positive, helpful attitude.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Mousekeeping was fantastic all week - plenty of H2o+ products, turndown service each night with chocolates and fresh towels. :cloud9:

All in all, I can count on one hand the number of CM’s that weren’t towing the Disney Line and none of them were at the GF. All CM’s at GF were helpful, friendly, and really made us feel welcome and glad to be back.
I’ll try to post pictures of the room we stayed in the near future – it was fully wall papered – with Mickey Motif paper in the bathroom area, trees shaped like Disney Characters – a golden type wall paper in the bedroom with matching “drapes”. All the furniture was new and just like everyone else describes it. Our view was of the quiet pool and the main building which looks beautiful anytime of the day.

All food at the GF was good – Gaspies was a great place to get a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner. The GF Café has changed their menu a bit and is no serving more upscale food with better presentation than I previously remember (at least at dinner). We attended our first afternoon tea and had a great time and delicious treats. Our favorite is the favorite of many readers of this thread…drumroll please…NARCOOSSEE’S…OMG…staff, food :cloud9: , location, food :cloud9: , service, food :cloud9: excellent!!! Our server’s at the GF were all terrific – I can’t imagine a better place to spend one’s Disney Holiday.

Off Topic – our least favorite meal was dinner at the California Grill; it left much to be desired. CG seemed to be more about “location, location, location” then about good food, but it was our first and last time to dine there – our server and other CM’s were way more interested in turning over tables, then insuring that current guests were having a good time/meal.

We had a great time swimming at the quiet pool, everything was well maintained and I can’t believe the staff has to take in and put out the cushions on the pool chairs each day – that’s a lot of work. I also notice the level of detail in the public bathrooms throughout the GF – someone magically appears and fixes the tissue boxes, toilet paper, roll towel paper, etc…between each visit or at least close to it. There were so many details taken care of throughout the entire resort (too numerous to name) that we noticed over our stay, it still amazes me that Disney is able to keep everything looking so good.

We did the GF Photopass shoot and our CM was fantastic – we had a rough start as her camera would not sync up to the wireless device they carried. She finally ended up going “manually” and while I thought our session would be cut short she gave us a full 30 minutes and took 82 photos in all. I still have not had time to download all our digital photos or look at the photopass photos – that is also on the agenda for today.

Overall we had a great time at the GF and have already booked a trip to Disney for next Christmas. :santa:

The worst part of the trip was coming back to reality as we were spoiled by the magic of Disney (which is one of the main reasons for so many repeat visitors) – everyone is friendly (off topic, soap box and YMMV, personally I have found that you get back what you give at Disney, even when things are not so great a positive friendly attitude goes a long way toward resolving any issue/situation rather than telling a CM what they have to do or must do, putting them in a naturally defensive posture).

I almost forgot they were putting what appeared to be the finishing touches on the Sago key building. Mouse surplus was removing furniture and workers were taking out carpets, framing, etc… Painters were working on the fourth floor dormer rooms – it appeared that almost all of the marina facing rooms of the building were painted on the outside.

Ask any questions, I’ll try to answer them in a timely manner. :goodvibes

Okay – time to start planning our trip to GF for next year!!! :thumbsup2

Mike, thanks for the review! :thumbsup2

Glad it was a nice time and the few issues were resolved quickly and easily.

That is interesting & too bad about the CG. FOr years we always stayed CR concierge and they always were pushing us to try the CG (in a nice way) but with our kids we just weren't into it so we never did. It's funny you hear such differing reviews of it. I tried to book it for our recent trip and it was only available for about 9 pm and it required a CC hold so I didn't take it.

FYI everybody.....there is an H2O Plus website code for 25% off your total order - I think any amt, no minimum order that is 175342 and if you order $100 + you get free shipping too. They sell the nice GF products there - I might ask for some for Xmas....although I have a stash;) . The code ends today 12/9.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

- Have a GREAT TIME!!! I am interested in how you find the AK Lodge. I loved Boma for dinner a couple years ago & the resort is sooo neat. Hope you enjoy yourselves.:goodvibes

Channing :)

Does anyone know what the 1900 Park Fare rest. is named for? One of the podcasts I listen to, WDWRadio, had talked about it today and when I thought about I was not sure. I assumed something Mary Poppins related, but maybe there is something in the history of the Hotel or at least the hotels the GF is modeled from.

Any ideas?

Just got back last night and had a great time. We arrived around 12:30pm and were checked in in the room. We had room 4416 and lucky for us it was ready when we got there. There were balloons and a signed card from Minnie Mouse for dd's birthday waiting for us. We had a view of Space Mountain and the courtyard pool and could see the fireworks at night. Also could see a tiny looking Spaceship Earth far to the right and tiny fireworks at night from Epcot.

I asked about the cream for the scones and was told it had been gone for about a month. I just mentioned that I was sad because that was my favorite thing the one time we had stayed there before. The next day the nice lady brought me two new bottles of the cream to keep in our fridge and also I saw it out with the scones every day after that. Don't know if they'll keep it but hopefully they will.

Ended up celebrating dd's 6th birthday in the Garden View Lounge which worked out well. At first we thought this is crazy with ds 2y/o and all the china. We were pushing it away from him and the waitress brought it back and showed him how to be careful. She really was great. I had set up the delivery of a small birthday cake with the concierge and it was ready. They also had a bouquet of balloons ready at our table which we had discussed. There were already flowers on all the tables and it was a lovely setting. The food was good and they sang happy birthday. We were very pleased with how it all worked out.

Really enjoyed the beautiful landscaping and the gingerbread house was neat. Oops gotta go get our Christmas tree.

I am glad you got your cream with your scones!!! :thumbsup2 When I asked about it, I was told they hadn't had delivery of it so maybe they are going to keep getting it now....the CM said she'd mention it to her manager.

Glad you had a nice time.

MickeyMaz.
...Good question. :confused3 I just thuoght it had to do with something in Victorian times.
