If you are staying in a suite in one of the lodges, do you have concierge priviledges? If so, which CL lounge, SL or RPC?

TIA,

Lori

I seriously am considering cancelling my reservation for the Poly and switching to the GF. When I saw the Christmas pictures of the GF I just about died! It is BEAUTIFUL! Then I found out there are rooms with Alice in Wonderland, and I am an Alice in Wonderland fanatic. The rooms look SO beautiful and the resort is just lovely. The theme of the GF really appeals to me and now that I've seen more pictures of the Poly it looks so outdated and not worth the money. Sorry I'm rambling on here.

My question is do you think I would really enjoy the GF much more than the Poly and should I switch?
Also, what are the best garden view rooms that have Alice in Wonderland? I know the Conch Key and the Big Pine Key have Alice but specifically, what garden view rooms are best? Thank you sooo much! I'm so sorry for my rambling.:sunny:

Lindsey, we were at the GF last year just after Christmas, but they were still celebrating the holiday season. You're right, the decorations are fantastic and the gingerbread house is a sight to see. I took a walk over to the Polynesian and IMO, it was very difficult to get the Christmas atsmophere in a tropical resort. For some reason, I always think of the Brady Bunch in Hawaii when I see the Poly. I know it's a favorite of many, my personal preference is the victorian theme, especially during the holidays. The only outer building that I've stayed in was Conch Key. It's probably the furthest from the main building & pool area, but that also made it very quiet. Another big difference that I noticed between the 2 resorts was the main building themselves. I didn't feel like the Poly's lobby was a spot where you could sit and unwind. At the GF, it's so big and open and at night you have the orchestra playing holiday songs in addition to Disney favorites. At any time you could find people relaxing on the sofa's and looking up at the beautiful tree.

I can't say if you'd enjoy one more than the other, they both have qualities that appeal to different people. The worst thing would be to sit on the balcony of one resort and look over at the other wishing you had stayed there instead.

Thanks for responding to my questions. You're right, I don't want to be at one resort wishing I was at the other one. So I decided on the GF, it's just SOOO beautiful that I couldn't resist! Also, after seeing the GF on Great Hotel this morning, I just had to change to the GF!

I am the exact same way, we stayed at GF SL at the beginning of Oct 2003 and MNSSHP and loved it! Halloween is ok, But we are making a special trip to WDW in the Christmas nonpeak season, just to stay there and see the Christmas deco. I am the same way, I love the victorian deco more than tropical, but that is me!! When it comes to wishing that we stayed in a different resort...nope, never did. Especially with the monorail, we loved it! The only thing that I wish we did, was stay in RPC, but that is for next time, hopefully!

Michelle2 & MinnieM21 - wow that is story sounds so familiar. We are doing our first ever Disney trip the end of August. But while doing all our research on DIS and elsewhere, we got bit by the Disney at Christmas bug. After dreaming about it, and looking at past pics, we just had to go ahead and book a trip to the GF during December. All I can say is, between Disney and these boards, WDW has become an obsession. lol

it doesn't matter the season....the GF was, is and always will be my favorite WDW resort...
and this time, during our stay a few weeks ago, the service was even more outstanding than ever...across the board....excellent service and super friendly CMs....
what more could anyone ask for?...

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this thread, DH and I have been a fan of WL for quite some time, but for our upcoming trip, we were looking forward to staying at the GF.

I've got some great tips already regarding GF. So far, our rate is $399 p/n for a standard view, we have APs and I was wondering what the average AP rates for Dec.?

Also, any tips as to which room/location we should ask for? (we're smokers :( )

Thanks in advance everyone!!!!

I know this question will seem completely clueless, but does the beach at the GF have a view the MK castle (similar to the Poly)? From what I have heard, it is viewable from the pool area, boat dock, and LV rooms. However, we would be in a GV room and relying on the resort grounds to be able to see the amazing sight of the castle changing colors at night. I was hoping I could enjoy that MK magic from a chair on the beach. Also, does anyone have room view pictures to share? TIA!

I know that when we stayed there in Oct. 2003, we watched the fantasy in the sky fireworks from the boat dock. I think you can see the castle from the beach, but I cannot remember. I remember taking the watermice out and I remember a little island off the GF beach, so I am not sure if it is partially in the way or not. I also know that you can see the firworks from a restaurant...either Narcoosees or Citricos, but I am not sure which because we have not eaten there (yet)!
But the view from the boat dock was very enjoyable, they have a few benches, and it is nice to see the water pageant they have usually right before it (fireworks). And yes, I could see the castle change colors, and could even hear the music a little when the firework bangs weren't too loud! :)

Thanks for the info Michelle2! I didn't know there were benches on the boat dock. Does anyone else have a definite answer concerning the view from the beach?

Mariamouse, the only guaranteed views you are going to have of the MK castle is from the boat dock, Narcoosee's restaurant and the marina. Unfortunately, LV rooms do not mean you will get a magic kingdom view. There are actually very few rooms with a perfect MK view. The beach looks out towards Epcot, as does the theme pool. The larger pool is located in sort of the center of the resort and due to the buildings around it, you can't really see much. Gasparilla's grille, which is located next to the marina, has outdoor seating. This is a perfect spot to see the fireworks from. The boatdock also has 2 benches, I believe, to sit on. The beach is great for viewing the nightly electric water parade.

Hello all,
Going to the GF in April for our anniversary and was wondering if Sugar Loaf has any Lodge Tower rooms. If they do, does any one know if they are on the pool or marina side. Stayed at GF once about 5 years ago in Conch Key and had a 5th floor dormer room which was so nice.:teeth:
Don't know which to request, I know they won't guarantee anything, but it I guess it won't hurt to ask.
Thanks,
Kerri

Kerri,

I honestly don't remember if the Sugar Loaf had tower rooms, but I don't think so. Here's the address for GF concierge WDWGFPlanning@disney.com I'm sure they'd be able to give you that information if someone here can't tell you.

Tammi

Thanks Tammi!
I just spoke with a client of mine who stays at SL every year and she seems to remember that they have the Lodge Tower rooms but I don't know if she's remembering correctly since I've booked other rooms at the GF for her also. I will give the Concierge office a ring to find out. Just wondering if the Lodge Tower or dormer rooms would be better.
Kerri

I think the lodge tower room would be my preference. It's bigger and you get that nice little sitting area set away from the beds. The one thing if you do end up with a dormer room at Sugar Loaf is that you're not missing out on much of a view, so the smaller baclony shouldn't make much difference.

I'm not sure if you've seen the lodge tower room layout, but this site shows it in detail http://www.the-grahams.net/gf/rooms.shtml

Tammi,
Thanks for the link. The tower room looks great if we were going to have a full room the whole time..my son will be participating in Disney Music Days with his HS chorus, so he will be staying at the All Star for part of the trip. I had a dormer room that faced the pool and I did not mind the view. I took my foster baby to the Poly LVC in May and the view of the castle was amazing!!!
I know that won't be the case at the GF but I always promised DH that I would take him there for a special occasion. Besides, staying at the Poly without my little one would be too sad:(
I've heard that you can sometimes see the fireworks from the marina rooms..have you ever had a marina view and were able to see the fireworks?
