magical4us4, your Sugar Loaf room might not have been "given away", but it could have been a trickle down upgrade. We've had this happen to us before, when we booked Sugar Loaf, we found out we had been upgraded to RPC at check-in and I would guess that someone who booked a standard got the extra Sugar Loaf room. That's a nice upgrade and I'm glad it worked out for you.

Unfortunately, when you check in that late, there is no one from concierge on duty to check you in. They work daily from 7am-10pm. Instead, you'll need to go to the main registration desk. Not a big deal though, as when we've arrived that late, there's never usually a crowd. Unless there is a major issue at the resort (maintenance, room rehabs, etc), you shouldn't have any problem with your RPC room. If they do have to upgrade you, the next step is a suite, so that's not bad either.

Hi everyone,

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to post until now. We had such a wonderful time during our honeymoon at the Grand Floridian :cloud9: I had checked in early that day of the wedding so it would be taken care of and found out that we had been upgraded from Lagoon view to the RPC!! :cool1:

Our room was 4202 with a beautiful view of the castle. We were treated wonderful by all the castmembers that we met. We truly had the time of our lives and I wished that we could've stayed the entire honeymoon trip there (we had an alright time during the last 3 nights at the WL, but I just don't think it's my kind of place) Nothing can compare to our stay at the GF....now I don't know if I can go back to Disney World without a stay at the GF :teeth:

On our last night of our stay at the Grand my wonderful DH planned a romantic dinner that was served on the balcony complete with the slipper dessert  (I would post some pictures but I'm not able to) But here is the link to our wedding pictures: copy and past the user name exactly as it is below

Thanks again everyone for all of the useful advice that is posted here.

Laura, congratulations on your wedding and the upgrade. You actually got extra magic, as the second floor is considered the more expensive honeymoon suites :woohoo: . That wing is my favorite spot for a room. Glad you enjoyed the beautiful view.

Laura, I am so happy to hear about your honeymoon. I was not able to access your WDW wedding site (I'm at work on lunch) :) So I will try when I get home. Are you going to do a Honeymoon trip report? I am sure you have tons of things to do right now, but a trip report would be great for all of us, plus it will help out future brides. :goodvibes Wishing you happiness, rainbows and joy in your new marriage.

TammiMcMann - Hi :wave2: Miss talking with you. How is your family doing?

Angel

Laura - I am so happy the Grand Floridian was wonderful for you - like it was for my family over spring break (and other trips! ;) ) I saw your pics on the other board and thought they were lovely. I am pretty sure my daughter and I saw your wedding out there by the Polynesian. It brought us some magic seeing it! Now, after seeing your wedding with Mickey and Minnie and also seeing that Cinderella Coach wedding.....THAT is what my girls want. :teeth: (Their dad better start saving!!) I was keeping my eyes out for you, anyway, as we were supposed to leave the GF and head to the Poly April 1, but we did get to extend our stay to the GF. :wizard: Maybe we did cross paths in the RPC lounge?? :confused3

Isn't RPC the best??!! Now I also feel there is no way I can do WDW without staying there. We had the time of our lives there over spring break. :goodvibes The CMs that we met were just so terrific and friendly. They added a lot to our stay. We are heading back in July for my 40th bday! :thumbsup2

Congratulations on your marriage. :sunny:

Thanks for posting,

Lives4Disney I'm so glad that you and your family had such a wonderful time as well. Well if the wedding was in the afternoon on the 1st it was probably us :cloud9: It was such a magical day and I'm glad it brought some magic to you two as well :goodvibes It's true we could've crossed paths in the RPC. It definitely is the best and I hope to stay there on the next trip.

Congrats on the upcoming trip, hope you have a terrific time! :wizard:

Laura,

Your wedding was beautiful. I love Mickey and Minnie in yellow. You made such a pretty bride! My favorite pictures are the ones of you on the beach with the GF in the background. One even has the sail boat!

BTW, was your wedding on 4/1? That is my wedding anniversary too. DH says he always has a built in excuse if he were to forget. He can say "April Fools Day"!

Congrats again and WTG on the RPC upgrade. That's awesome!

Let me know if the link doesn't work :) Yes, I plan on writing a trip report..it may take a little while but I'll get it done eventually :teeth: Thanks for the best wishes!

triplefigsThe beach pictures are some of my favorites...I'm so glad I brought the idea up to the photographer. And yes, we were married on April 1st too! :goodvibes

That is too funny about your DH. We were planning on playing an April Fool's joke on our guests but decided we didn't want to scare them too much!LOL :teeth:

Laura

Well, just be warned. April Fools Day brides tend to have multiples. My neighbor was married on April 1 and has twins. We have triplets. Guess that means you get quads! :thumbsup2

Will we be able to hear the Grad Night celebrations from the main building?

Does anyone have an idea of when Grad Night fireworks are?

Thanks!

Depending on which way the wind is blowing, and your room location, it is very well possible.

We arrive at the GF on Saturday!

I contacted IPO months ago  with our requested ADR's, tours and room requests.

Should I email them and re-confirm everything? Should I tell them that we will be checking in between 7:00 and 7:30am to get our park passes?

I am getting sooo excited :hyper: :earboy2:

Garada, in the past, IPO has been able to send over an e-mail attachment with our personalized itinerary. It's probably a good idea to look it over before you leave home. That way, if there are any problems, you can have them resolved before you get there.

We always let them know about what time we'll be checking in. The concierge staff is not on duty prior to 7am, so you want to make sure to arrive after that. If you do happen to get there earlier, you'll just need to check-in at the main registration desk. Have a wonderful time.

I have read on the boards that RPC in GF serves a light lunch (just small appetizer size). Is this true? I was there last March and they just served bread sticks, dip, and some cookies.

Hi, this March 2006 it was pretty much the same. There were also veggies, cheese, nuts & chips. For the most part, though, there is food out just about all through the day with just a couple hour breaks in between. The hot appetizers don't come out until 5 pm. I wouldn't make a meal out of those, either, but it is something light to tide over until a late dinner. :)

Happy planning!

I believe that they have cut back on some of the mid-day selections. I remember a few years ago, that for the 11am-1:30pm serving, we've had items such as a salad, sliced chicken breast, hummus, nachos & dip, cold sliced vegetables. If memory serves me correctly, there were probably about 6 selections each afternoon. From what I've read and seen lately, what you describe is accurate.

When we were there in December it was just "snack" type foods - breadsticks, veggies, dip, hummus and chips, regular chips and cookies. It was definitely just a light snack. I don't think it could even be called a light lunch. The good thing was that we actually got in our veggies everyday!

We had such a wonderful stay! I am not sure that I can stay anywhere else! I won't say that you all didn't warn me :)

We were welcomed outside, escorted and pre-checked into our room at 7:30 am with no problems. I didn't think to ask the room number in my hurry to get the family over to Epcot.

We called at 3:00pm and were told that the room was ready so we went back to the GF and into our room, 4401. I opened the curtains and there was my castle, oops - I mean the castle!

The staff were all wonderful and very helpful with early morning travel to the MK for the train tour and making sure that the 'tooth fairy' visited for one of my sons!

The snacks in the lounge were wonderful and I even requested several recipes. I miss my 5:00pm champagne.

I think I am spoiled for life!

One hitch in the week was that the elevator that is near Gasparilla's was closed for maintenance so we did have to parade through the lobby in our swim gear :rolleyes1

Any questions please ask. I would love to talk about our vacation!
