A very very serious question: Is the "a" in "Sago" hard or soft? (E.g., Say-go, or Sah-go.)

Lark, here is what Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary (click here) has to say about that:

Main Entry: sa•go
Pronunciation: 'sA-(")gO
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural sagos
Etymology: Malay sagu sago palm
: a dry granulated or powdered starch prepared from the pith of a sago palm and used in foods and as textile stiffening

If you click on the link, you'll go to their webpage. On it you will find another link that will say the word for you so that you know the official pronunciation.

By the way, it doesn't matter how you pronounce it. I still hear the Cast Members use two different pronunciations for "Conch" as in Conch Key. ;)

Lark, are you considering a stay in Sago Cay?

Yes, we have a garden view reservation and I'm thinking whether to request a particular building. I never have before, and we've always been really happy with where we ended up. But I've always been a little concerned about ending up in one of the lower floor garden-view rooms in Big Pine Key and Boca Chica that look at the pool bar/cabana building. Just from seeing Sago Cay, I think I'd be happy with just about any of the garden view rooms. (I'd also be happy with 90 percent of the other garden view rooms, it's just those handful in BPK and BC that I'd like to avoid -- maybe a request for Sago Cay will accomplish that.)

I was just reading about how nasty the coffee is at the WDW resorts and that people add hot chocolate to make it drinkable. Please tell me that we will get some good coffee at SLC. If not, I just might have to budget time each morning for a stop at the good coffee place at the Poly.

I haven't had the coffee specifically at SL, but I've been there when they've put coffee out in the lobbies of the other buildings in the morning. I assume it's the same stuff. I wouldn't say it's nasty. It's servicable. Does the trick. They often also have those flavored creamers, although people scoop them up by the handfuls some times. You shouldn't have that problem in SL.

Tammi: LOVED the scrapbook/autograph book idea. That was lovely, and such a neat treat for the kids AND characters!

Kris: We were at SL a few weeks ago. I didn't try the regular coffee (due to pregnancy), but I did have the decaf several days. The regular coffee is brewed, but they have a machine that makes the decaf, along with lattes, cappuccinos, espresso, and some others I don't remember. The first three days we were there, the machine was broken, so they had to brew the decaf and put it in a caraffe. It was great! However, when the machine was fixed on our fourth day, and I tried its version of decaf, I was pretty disappointed. Not nearly as good as the brewed stuff (much too strong for my taste). Sorry I can't give you thoughts on the "regular" stuff, but since it's brewed, I bet it's pretty good.

I don't drink coffe, just thought I'd post a photo of the Nescafe machine that is found in the Sugar Loaf concierge lounge: click here. (Note: It's also found in the Royal Palm Club concierge lounge.)

Janet-I love your pictures :) I have the link book marked and have looked at it often when I have questions. I will show it to the children when we tell them about their surprise birthday trip in a few weeks :cheer2:

That machine makes great cappucino too. They also have "regular" coffee, decaf, and hot water besides the machine.

The regular coffee out of the machine is very good.

Excellent information, Goofie4goofy. Since you brought up the hot water, I thought I would post a link to a photo that shows the box of teas that are offered in the concierge lounge, as well as the bottled flavorings that some folks add to their beverages: Sugar Loaf concierge lounge and Royal Palm Club concierge lounge.

KrisTX, can you adopt me? I would love a surprise like that. Please let us know how it goes.

By the way, if they don't like the surprise, just let me know when to meet you in the GF lobby. I will never complain about a suprise trip to WDW. ;)

Last year I put together a short video slideshow with a few of the fireworks photos from my Summerhouse Dinner Party Event. I did that as a thank you for my friends. I thought I would share the slideshow here, too, since a lot of you folks are just as crazy about the Grand Floridian Resort as I am. ;)

Click here to go to the video slideshow. It is located on Google Video.

For those of you who haven't stayed at the Grand Floridian yet, I need to mention that the resort does not pipe in the Wishes fireworks soundtrack to the Marina. My Event Manager had to arrange for this and I was charged for it (there was a line item on my event's BEO). I have to mention this because I don't want anyone to be mislead into thinking that they'll be able to hear the soundtrack if they watch the fireworks from the Marina. I wish it was piped in, but it's not.

Now, with that being said, it still is fun to watch the fireworks from the Marina or from the Water Taxi Dock. My family has done so many times. And if you listen real closely, you just might hear strains from the soundtrack floating over Seven Seas Lagoon, ~sigh.~
