OK, looking for pixie dust and crossed fingers.....last night I had to move our vacation dates from 7/18-7/23 TO 7/21-7/26!!!!
Well, we got lucky as there was a room in RPC available for the dates (HOORAY!!) The problem is that now all of my ADR's that I made need to be changed!! I just sent an email to IPO, gave them the scoop, the dates, and the restaurants of interest (including V&A, which I already HAD a ressie to for my birthday dinner :sad2: ) and asked them to go to town, so to speak, and find me dinner ressies.......I wished them luck. Boy, I'll tell you, if they come through for me on this, I would be forever grateful..... popcorn:: waiting to see what happens!!!

Good luck!! I hope you get everything settled for your trip!! You will love the RPC... :wizard:

I am sending pixie dust :wizard: :wizard: your way in hopes everything works out. Please keep us updated with the outcome. I am very interested in how IPO handles this since they have been very slow responding lately.

Woah, this thread has really taken off. To the poster who PM'd me about this thread, I sent you a PM back. ;)

And I just wanted to apologize for not being around for a while, I had some personal issues to take care of, but a family member and occasional DISer had convinced me to return to something that always made me happy in the past. This thread reminds me of my love for Disney. ;)

We are thinking about the GF for our next trip. I have learned a lot from this thread-thanks for starting it and welcome back. :wave2:

Cali, it is SO good to see you posting again! :thumbsup2

BTW, is that nickname of Cali still OK with you?

I just admired your pix of the Princess Tea party - did GF IPO make the ressie for you, & is that why your daughters Princess name card is blank? Im just worried that they never took my girls names when we booked & everyone has reported that the dining line took their names & had cards w/ their kids names to be called out upon arrival - I hate to miss out!

Poohluvrs - when we did the Princess Tea Party, we checked in at the podium first and they checked the names, etc. I wouldn't worry!! You will have that time to double check with them if you are still concerned. They do a WONDERFUL job with this thing. Your girls will be made to feel like princesses and very special.

Happy planning!

I am getting excited, LOL!!! :goodvibes

Poohluvrs: Just another thought, wouldn't they have your daughters names off your reservation? I know when I booked my reservations for the resort they wanted everyone's names, so maybe they looked them up from the reservation. :sunny:

Traci - I took my girls when they were 5 and 8. Lucy (8 +) was afraid she would be too old and I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I would kind of daydream thru the thing....well, I LOVED it and so did Lucy! Jojo was another story, LOL. She was ALmost 5 at the time and after the first 1/2 hour of sitting at the table would have been happier if she had brought her Polly Pockets to play with. (she can play with those for hours on end!!) I expected HER to be the one enthralled with the "show", but it is about 1 and 1/2 hours long of sitting at the table and she is a mover and a shaker. :goodvibes She likes to have FUN! She did enjoy it, but not as much as I hoped. The whole thing is just precious, though, from start to finish. Such a neat experience.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :)

:) ok, just an update....I went ahead and made all the ADR's myself because.....well, I just couldn't wait around anymore. I got lucky as all my ADR's requested were granted. However, I did hear from IPO this morning and they confirmed all the ADR's and arranged it neatly in a PDF for me, so that was nice. So I waited 48 hours for a response, I didn't think that was a long wait.

I have a question though....has anyone here done the Grand Romantic Evening?? I've been reading about it and may schedule it , but looking for opinions....

We just booked a lodge building lagoon view. Which building is that when looking at the picture of GF on Disney's web site.

The only lodge that I can think of with no lagoon view categories at all is Sugar Loaf which is a concierge building anyway.

I took my DD to the Afternoon Tea at the GF last summer - she was just one. She sat in her high chair and took it all in, feasting on all the yummy pastries.

This year, no WAY would I bring her.

I am waiting until her 5th birthday to take her to "My Disney Girl's Princess Tea" (I think that's what it is called), but will probably take her to the GF Afternoon Tea next summer (07) and the following summer (08).

I think it all depends on the temperment of the child. But I also remember that the "Girl's Princess Tea" is for ages 3 and up as per Disney.

Hope this helps!

CaliforniaDreaming, hello, old friend! I too haven’t been around the Dis much this year (very sporadic, to say the least). I hope all is well with you now and that you’ll be hanging around here a little more frequently.

Do you have an upcoming GF stay planned? I’ve got one coming up and I’m very much looking forward to it. I’ll be meeting up with some friends and I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to keep out of trouble (it’s going to be hard but I’m going to try very hard to remain a good girl). ;)

Have you eaten at V&A's? I have an ADR there and I glanced at a sample menu. I am a little concerned that I may not like thier choices for main courses...so I may change those ressies to Narcoosee's. I was also thinking maybe emailing the IPO staff and asking them if they could suggest something special to be awaiting us when we arrive, as a nice "Thank you" to my Prince Charming. Ever done anything like that?
Litlpixie, I apologize for not having been on the Dis since the beginning of last month, ~gulp~. I am now reading through the last several pages of this thread so that I can bring myself up-to-speed regarding what’s new with the resort.

I saw your post that asked about Victoria & Albert’s. My family has dined there many times over the years. That includes taking my (at the time) young son with us to many of our dinner reservations. If you have kids, you probably know that they aren’t always the most adventurous types when it comes to food. But for some crazy reason my son had a ball trying things like buffalo carpaccio (thinly, sliced raw meat) or melon soup (chilled soup). I was amazed at how adventuresome he was each time we dined at the restaurant.

I will be at Victoria & Albert’s again very soon. This will be my young daughter’s first visit to the restaurant and she is very excited about it. We’ll be joined at dinner by a few of our friends, and for a majority of them, this will be their first visit to the restaurant too. Most of us have been exchanging photos via e-mail of what we’re going to wear (we live in various states across the country). Besides discussing our attire, I think everyone has pretty much decided to go with the wine-pairings (*hiccup*). My daughter has already volunteered to be our designated “driver.” She’ll be the one who will be pushing the buttons in the elevator, handling the room keys, and then making sure that everyone arrives safely in their actual room (most of us are staying at the resort). It should really be a fun dinner. Some of my favorite Victoria & Albert's memories are of group dinners that were spent there.

Litlpixie, I’m hopeful that you’ll keep your Victoria & Albert’s reservation. Their food really is quite scrumptious (even if the names of the dishes are fancy-sounding). But if you decide to switch your reservation over to Narcoossee’s, I'm sure you'll have a yummy meal.

You asked about potential treats for your significant other. My family has experienced a lot of really fun ones. We’ve been the recipients of everything from chocolate chip cookies & milk (click here) to lovely floral arrangements (click here). My uneducated guess is that one of the most requested treats probably is a plate full of tuxedo (a.k.a., chocolate-covered) strawberries (click here). They’re yummy. Don’t forget that you can either arrange for something to be delivered to your room via the IPO / Private Dining or via the Disney Florist. Please note that the Disney Florist is capable of putting together some really fun items (click here). Simply let them know what you want and they should be able to take care of it for you. I used them earlier this year and they did not disappoint.

Have fun planning your vacation. If you have any further questions, please post them (I’ll try to hang around here a little more frequently!).

Janet, that is a wonderful picture. Thank you for sharing.

We were recently down for a wedding for friends of ours. It amazed me the sheer number of Cast Members there were for our group. Every time I turned around, there was a different coordinator, and they orchestrated everything perfectly.
MickeyMac, I’m glad you enjoyed the photo that I had shared (click here). I find it especially poignant since the man who had planned that particular party for me (and who is also seen in the background of that photo) is no longer at Disney. He had become such a crucial part of my family’s last couple of vacations that we will sorely miss him during our upcoming stay. It just won’t seem the same (several other wonderful Cast Members have also left Disney). It’s amazing how not only can a place grow on you, but also their employees. I take that as a true sign of a wonderful company.

As to your comment about the wedding that you recently attended, I know exactly what you’re talking about. My husband and I celebrated 20 years of marriage with a Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal. It was beyond magical, and it was all thanks to the incredible team of folks that Disney has working for them. One of those incredible folks was the gentleman who I just mentioned above: click here. Have I stated lately just how much I’m going to miss him? ;)

When you're staying in the main building- royal palm club (concierge) are the things in the wet bar FREE or would you be charged for anything you take out of there?

BibbidyBobbidyBoo, I know your question has been answered, but I thought it would be helpful if I posted a link to photos that I took of the minibar price list from my Grand Floridian stay last summer (main building):
Minibar Price List # 1
Minibar Price List # 2
Minibar Price List # 3
Minibar Price List # 4

I have always been charged for items removed from the minibar even when vacationing with Disney's top-of-the-line vacation packages. Disney always told me not to touch the minibar if I wanted anything to eat or drink. They told me to call Private Dining and place my order because food & beverage ordered from Private Dining were covered by my vacation plan while items removed from the minibar were not. I found that odd because it was certainly cheaper for Disney to have me grab a soft drink from my in-room fridge than it was for Disney to have me call Private Dining in order to get a soft drink. But that is what they told me and that is what I found upon check-out (Private Dining was free under my vacation plan while items removed from the minibar were not -- and those items appeared on my resort bill).

In a nutshell, you’re going to always be charged for items that have been removed from the minibar. I hope that helped.

Do they sell resort mugs at the GF, and if they do how much are they? Where would you fill them up at?

Cattrix, as has been already mentioned, the mugs are for sale at Gasparilla Grill. However, if you are a resort guest, you will find a few mugs inside the top drawer of your in-room minibar:

Minibar Photo (note mugs inside drawer)
GF Mug # 1
GF Mug # 2

Those are the two mugs that have been sold by the resort for the past several years. I'll be at the Grand Floridian this year and will post photos if I find that the mugs have changed.

According to my minibar's price list, last year the refillable souvenir mugs cost $11.99 each: click here. The fine print on that price list stated the following:

"Price includes FREE refills on fountain drinks, coffee, and tea in Gasparillas' Grill & Games for the length of your stay at time of purchase. (Does not include Slush, Cappuccino, or Espresso)"

Again, that was for 2005. I'm not sure what the cost is for 2006 but as soon as I find out, I promise to share it here.

I hope this helped.
