I noticed that the GF has a mini-bar. Can someone tell me what's in it & how it works? The only time I have ever had one in a room was in Cancun & it was all-inclusive so I didn't have to pay for anything in it. I am assuming we'd have to pay for anything we take out of it? And how are the prices of the items?

Ok, i just did something unexpected to my reservation and I need feedback. We are booked GF theme park view the nights of July 15-20 with 6 day park hopper passes with dining. (did I mention only 34 days away???  )

Anyway our last day at WDW is Friday June 20, but we are staying in the area to spend Saturday with DH's uncle who lives near St. Cloud. Anyway we fly out of MCO at 8;45pm on Sat. July 21, so I had originally booked a hotel at the airport for Friday night thinking we would stay at WDW for as late as we wanted then take a taxi to our airport hotel.

The more I thought on this, the sillier it seemed, so I just booked POP as a room only for Friday night. That way I figure we can check out the the GF after our breakfast, have them transport our luggage, and then not have to worry about Friday night at all, just hang out and play more at the parks. Then when we get up Sat we can call the uncle and make plans.

Does this seem like a better plan to you all/ Pop preferred room was only $122, and I didn't even really want to spend $175 at a mod since it is an extra just sleep night. The only problem is we stayed at POP once before and did not like it at all. Of course, that was for a whole week and the garishness got to be to much to take. No offense to those who like it, it is just not our taste. We need to be able to relax and kick back during our down time, and Pop is just too frenetic for us.

Anyway, sorry about the length of this post, but I would really like some feedback!

Thanks!

Hi Jen66 -- In my opinion from reading your post, I would just pay the extra $53.00 for a Moderate Resort and be comfortable (I can feel the anxiety in your post when speaking of the POP) :headache: . Since you have stayed at the POP and didn't like it, why ruin a wonderful GF vacation (if only for one night), by moving from the GF to the POP?? As you chose the GF for your vacation, I can't understand your quest to save $53.00 on the last night of your stay :confused3 .

The above is only my opinion of what I would do in your situation, the final choice of course is up to you.

Have a great trip!!!

I agree. OR, get a AAA, Annual Passholder, SPG, teachers, nurses, govt. (etc. whatever you qualify for) rate at the Swan/Dolphin.

Hi all! As you all can see, I'm new to the DIS and so glad to have found this thread! Anyway, we have a lodge tower room booked for our upcoming trip to the GF in July. I searched the thread and read alot of posts about these rooms (and saw some great photos too). Our last trip to the GF was in 2000, lagoon view room in Big Pine. We loved the location of Big Pine and I was thinking about requesting it again. But in looking at the resort map, I'm thinking that the lodge tower rooms in Big Pine could potentially overlook the back of the pool building. Is that true? If so, it would seem other buildings might have a nicer view and maybe Big Pine should be avoided for this type room?? I did request a balcony, and we're just hoping to have something pretty to look at, preferably not a building! Any thoughts on what building I should request? Thanks!!

I can't believe this day has finally arrived. Eventhough I don't leave until tomorrow I count today as the beginning of my vacation because when I leave work I will begin my vacation.:cool1: :cool1:

I still haven't packed anything but I have gotten most of it together in piles.

Please let me know if there is anything in particular that you want me to find out while I am there.

Lyn

lynr--

Have a fabulous trip, and party: Happy Birthday! party:

Lynr~You will have such a great time!! I cannot wait to hear all about it when you get back!! I guess what I would like to know the most is how renovations are going, what buildings are being done, and are any finished yet. I have no idea if you can find any of that out, and honestly I do not expect you to go on a "fishing" expedition for me.:rotfl: I just want you to have a magical time and tell us all about it when you get back so we can live vicariously through your trip until ours comes (only 33 days for me:banana: )

Lynr~ I guess I should read tickers more thoroughly!!!

:wizard: pixiedust: Happy Birthday!! May you be granted a special birthday wish at WDW!! (dream team, are you listening???):wizard: pixiedust:

Yes, you must pay for anything you use. You just help yourself and someone comes by and does inventory and charges your account accordingly. I think the prices are high but typical of a minibar. You're paying for the convenience.

We never use ours and in fact just refuse the key at checkin and ask that it be noted.

Oh, and Jockey, I'm another who can't help you. We've stayed in Conch Key three times but I just haven't noticed much about the numbers. If Tammi doesn't know, try PMing CaliforniaDreaming who started this thread. I think he knows room numbers well from previous posts of his.

we also refuse the key especially when staying concierge
theres no need for it
also i believe that gasparillas is open 24 hours there

Lynn, have a wonderful vacation filled with pixie dustpixiedust: and :bday:

Jockey, I don't have a floor by floor listing of the room numbers. I do know our room number from Conch Key was 7322, which was on the 3rd floor, right around the corner from the elevator and overlooking the garden. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.

We are flying down and using DME, so I have a silly question about transportation. How are the buses to Epcot, AK, and MGM from the GF? I know we will take the monorail to Epcot at least once, but are the buses faster? Does the GF share with the other monorail resorts?
Thanks!!! ( I am starting to make packing lists, so I know my trip is getting close:cheer2: )

The Grand Floridian usually shares with the Contemporary and Polynesian, however I think that only happens in the afternoons. Usually when I go to MGM or AK from the Contemporary the bus then stops at the Polynesian and then it's off to the parks. However in the afternoons when the bus arrives at the parks it says the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian as the destinations that it's going to. So my guess is in the mornings they share service with the Wilderness Lodge.

Thanks guys! I should the room bill from last trip so will have a look for that over the weekend. I was hoping to buy the room number plaque from last trip as they are selling them on Ebay but the seller doesn't post to the UK at the moment! They do have some really cool items though including the Alice pillows, have not seen any of the duvets though.

I can't remember the name of the seller but just search under grand floridian it will list the items:)
