Ok, back to the mini-bar in the rooms. Are they in every room? What is in them, and if anyone knows what the prices are that would be appreciated as well. Do we have to keep them in the rooms? I've never had a mini-bar in a room before and I don't really know what to expect? I just worry about my kids attacking it, thinking it is free. Thanks!!!!

Just refuse the key when you check in if you're concerned.

We refuse it because I know we won't use it and I don't want any chance that there will be a mistake in billing.

There is a minbar in each room. It looks like a piece of furniture. If you look at any picture of the GF rooms, it is next to the armoire.

Can't help with prices but I wouldn't be surprised if it's $3/can of soda pop or candy bar...that type of thing. Typically minibars have water, soda pop, beer, mini bottles of wine and hard spirits, crackers, chips, candy.

The minibars are in little cabinets and both the cabinet door and the drawer lock. The kids may never have to see the contents, lol. There was a list posted MANY pages back regarding the items/prices etc. Personally, I love a minibar. The candy/goldfish/snack prices are comparable to what you'd pay in the parks and the soda and drinks, too. If I used a can of Diet Coke, I'd just replace it from the lounge the next morning. I find it convenient and not overpriced for Disney World. I enjoy convenience! :goodvibes

With the rehabs going on, and the listing of these cabinets on Ebay, I don't know if the new rooms will have minibars. HOPE SO!!

i just wanna buy everything from the rooms
the stuff isnt that much either but how to get it to MA
that would a pain and expensive

This is funny I was gonna give the same answer, just don't take the key. That's what we did last time so that the kids wouldn't play in it.

I know! I will be so bummed if they get rid of the minibars! (I know, silly huh? :))

I like having that added convenience for late at night, especially. And really, the prices are actually a bit cheaper than the typical hotel minibar.

I think it is really exciting though to know that they are redoing GF rooms as we speak! I can't wait to see some pictures!!!

Also, today is my 6 month mark! And my ADR calling starts on Monday! I need to get planning!

I know this is about the CR, but last year when I was first staying there everyone here on the GF thread was asking about the chocolate monorail you can get from PD at the CR. Well, I finally found someone who got one!

These great pictures are courtesy of DISer krbq. I'm just posting them for her. A big thanks for her sharing them with us! Here's what she said in her email:

To give you an idea of the size, the plate is about 14-16" in diameter. The Contemporary logo on the plate is made with cinnamon, and the other desserts were very rich cream-filled pastries. The plate fit inside the room's refrigerator, but just barely. As I recall, it cost about $40.

OK, that chocolate monorail looks amazing! But I know if I ever got one, I would never be able to bring myself to eat it. I still have a white chocolate Minnie and Mickey bride and groom in my fridge. I'll never eat it. I also had a white chocolate castle, but it was hollow and crumpled so I had to get rid of it.

It's too pretty to eat - it's a work of art!

I agree!! We still have tons of white chocolate sculptures in our freezer, too....including Mickey & MInnie, deer, Xmas trees & more, lol.

DH ordered that monorail for us on a CR stay....the dumb concierge staff goofed up and it never arrived.:guilty: It was his first attempt at surprising us on a Disney trip and it bombed. THAT lame stay (full of other mistakes) is one reason we haven't returned to the CR. It was very disappointing. I have yet to be disappointed in GF....knock on wood.

Does anyone know what the new rooms will look like at the GF when the remodel is complete? I saw some of the GF furniture at mousesurplus.com so it seems like they are intending to do a huge overhaul similar to that of the Contemporary and Polynesian and WL. Is it a monorail/MK resort thing? I'd love to see a spec of what the rooms will look like. Thanks!

Thanks for posting those monorail pics Triplefigs! That would be a great surprise for the kids on an upcoming trip!

I got a white chocolate Mickey when we were there the other week and when DH was wrapping it up to take home, Mickey's head came off!! So then we HAD to eat it! I hate when that happens! ;)

That monorail looks amazing!! Speaking of special desserts, should I order a Cinderella's slipper for my family as a surprise? Can I get it in our room, or does it have to be though 1900 or at CRT? And, are they as delicious as they look?
Thanks! (Only 30 days as of today and we will be in the world!!!  )

What a cool pic, Denise - thanks for sharing those!

I'd be in trouble if I received something like that - I couldn't even bring myself to eat a Tinkerbell white chocolate lollipop I bought at the GF a couple of Christmases ago! :rotfl: :thumbsup2

It's anyone's guess, right now. I think there are rumors out there that they will get similar treatments as the other MK resorts (flat screen tv's, etc.), but so far, no designs or pics have been leaked. I wish they'd hurry up! :goodvibes

That monorail is so cute!

Does anyone know how soon Lynn will be going home? Can't wait for details. Not to wish away her vacation though!!!:goodvibes

Denise! Thanks soooo much for the white chocolate monorail pictures! I was very close to getting it for our Contemporary stay last October, but I just couldn't do it without knowing what it looked like. Now I can order it for this year's Oct. trip to the CR with no worries! :thumbsup2

I'd love to see other 'special treats' from the Grand Floridian. I know Janet had some wonderful ones. :cloud9: Does anyone else have pics they can share of things they had delivered to their rooms from GF Private Dining or even outside companies? I remember seeing a white chocolate castle before, in several sizes. I think they were cake toppers? :confused3 If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has the ordering details could you please post here or PM me? THANKS!!!

That's exactly why I cancelled it last Sept after ordering it. I was just worried about what I'd get. Now I definitely have to order one for this trip! When will you be there? We're going Sept 22-29.

If you want to get your mouth watering, check out this thread, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1173219. It's mostly cakes, but you can see the white chocolate castle, as well as Cinderella's slipper dessert. Ordering information is listed on the first post there. I tried to pull up the link for Janet2K's photos of the Tinkerbelle treat, but it looks like she's in the process of moving her pictures.
