I just switched my resorts for my upcoming stay.:cool1: I now have a RPC Deluxe Octagon King Room. We have never stayed in this category room can anyone tell me anything about these rooms?

Thanks,
Lyn

Lyn, here is some advice Tammi gave me regarding deluxe honeymoon rooms....

Channing, deluxe king beds are the honeymoon suites. They're the only room types that you can guarantee a king bed in. Both the turret and the 2nd floor rooms fall into this category. You wouldn't know which one you had until you arrived. I know Janet2K and her daughter stayed in the turret suite, 4321 was their room number. Right around the corner from the 3rd floor balcony and the view was from the wedding chapel around to the castle. Even if I were travelling with my DD, I would request a turret room, just because she'll feel like a fairy princess. If you can get really specific, go for room #4021.

Happy planning! I had the best bday of my life at the GF. I hope you have a wonderful one, too. :wizard: Request that turret room. It sounds magical. Tammi stayed in it for her anniversary (I think) a while ago and hopefully she'll come on and describe it more. I remember reading about it a while ago.

Channing

Thanks Channing. You described it perfectly. Unfortunately Lyn, unless something has recently changed, the octagon rooms are part of the honeymoon suites inventory and it's a request only. Hopefully CRO didn't give you some bad information. I'd suggest that you drop the IPO department an e-mail and let them know that you'd like to put in a request for an octagon room. There are only 6, so it just comes down to availability when you arrive. The other honeymoon suites are on the 2nd floor and there are 9 or 10 of those.

The octagon suites are much bigger than the standard honeymoon suites, but they don't come with a balcony. Instead you have the palladium windows. There's a four poster king bed, sitting area, desk, walk in closet and a tub big enough for two. The standard honeymoon rooms come with a jacuzzi tub, couch and a balcony that overlooks the castle.

What about the Turret rooms in SL? We are booked there for our honeymoon in June and I wondered if maybe I should request a Turret room, as I love the privacy of the balconies. Do they have turret rooms with King beds in SL?

litlpixie, it's the same concept in Sugar Loaf, the lodge tower rooms are requests only. There are 3, with only 2 having a balcony. The only room layouts that I've seen for the lodge towers, include 2 queen beds, no kings in this type of room.

Thank you Tammi!! I knew you'd have the answer. Maybe it's asking too much to request a turret room WITH a balcony, don't want to overload them with information. This will be SL's 2nd chance with me after a so-so stay with them last July, so I dont want to expect a miracle:goodvibes

Channing and Tammy:

Thanks for the information. I am really excited.

Actually my AAA T/A had me on a 3 way call with Disney when I made this change and they told me the only room left was an octagon room with a King Bed that is usually for honeymooners. Hopefully they didn't mislead me.

We didn't think we would return to the GF anytime soon but all my reservations have been made and I won't be dealing with IPO except a couple of breakfast changes.

I got this room for about $250 more than the one bedroom suite I had reserved at the Beach Club because RPC is with the AAA discount.

Those three letters scare the heck out of me (AAA). In my experience, they are not known for always having their facts straight. Unfortunately, CRO won't talk to you because you booked through a travel agent, but I'd go right to IPO via e-mail and find out what's up. They can still assist you and bypass the travel agent.

Tammy:

Since I am on the Platinum Plan I think I will have better chance of contacting IPO because Platinum Plan goes through another department. So I am going to take your advice and try to get an answer from them.

Thanks,
Lyn

As a side note I did have trouble with AAA I called and found out that the room was available and the price they originally quoted me was without the discount. I questioned the price and they came back on with the discounted number.

I have another question. I can't remember from last year...when does the IPO send you their questionairre? You know, I don't even remember if I got contacted by them at all last year. Is it too soon to contact them, or how long should I wait until they contact me? Sorry for all the questions, just want my honeymoon to be the best it can be:bride:

Until recently - I mean the past couple months - I had not ever even received a questionnaire or ANYthing from IPO. I always contacted them first with an email. Very recently though, I have receieved the questionnaire thru email the day of or day after I booked the room. If you booked a while ago and have not received anything, call or email them asap. :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful time! I hope SL has improved from your last stay and it is perfect. :wizard:

I have received the questionaire once
last year from the poly/WL IPO all of our visits since have been concierge and we have not seen one. I agree with Channing I would call them or email them asap.
Good luck

Tammy & Channing:

Below is the respone I received from the IPO planning office about my room.

"The category room you are booked into is a room in the main building with a King Bed. There are 2 different layouts, one that is octagonal with no balcony facing our Polynesian side Beach area, the other being square rooms with Jacuzzi tubs facing the Magic Kingdom. We can take requests but due to a limited amount of these rooms we are unable to guarantee. They are commonly referred to as "Honeymoon Rooms" because of the King Bed."

Which one do you think I should request?

Lyn

Lynn, I would pick the octagonal room. Janet's pictures make the room look so charming. But I know you weren't asking me!:rotfl:

We've never received a questionnaire from the GF either. We have almost every stay with the Polynesian and we did for our one stay at AKL concierge. However, one trip someone from the GF iniated contact although that was a few years back.

Thanks everyone who posted replys about walking to the Poly! I think it will be a fun thing to do!

This thread is unbelievable... I can't believe the amount of info about the GF. This is our first stay there this month. Since I can tell you all have a bit of knowledge about it:) is there anything you'd recommend to us as first timers? We booked the Alice in W. tea for our two DD (5&8). And we built in time for swimming and relaxing-- anything in particular that is fun right on grounds?

Lyn, I totally agree with BCV! Request the turret room - I guess that would be the octogonal room. It is BEAUTIFUL and so large and special looking. Not your standard hotel room at all. It has a lot of charm and bright windows and lots of space and a separate sitting area, huge tub.... I think Angela (Cinderellafan) and Heatherlynn had that type of room for their honeymoons at the GF in RPC. I hope they post some pics or direct you to their previous posts. I was going to book the deluxe king room for my daughter and myself, but to make a long story short...DH is going to extend his stay so we will just keep ourselves at the Swan for the duration. No deluxe, beautiful turret room at the GF in my near future. They are gorgeous!!! And, there is a certain turret room that has a MK view. I think Heatherlynn had it - get that room number and request it - I think it's the one Tammi mentioned to me in an earlier post. I will dig back for it. OK, I found it....I think it's room #4021 that has the MK view. Also, Janet had 4321 that was a turret right off the 3rd floor balcony & I THINK I remember her saying she had a french door that opened right up to this balcony?? Anybody else remember that?? Or Janet, where are you??!!

Have a WONDERFUL Bday!! Do you have any other neat plans made?? Where are you doing your bday dinner??

You could PM Heatherlynn444. She had 4021. I went back to check. I think that is the most coveted room!

BCV23 and Channing:
You swayed me I requested the Turret room. I had originally thought about the Magic Kingdom room but the Turret room sounds great.

For my birthday dinner we are going to LeCellier and doing the Illuminations Cruise. We have packed a whole lot into our 5 day stay so we will be busy almost every minute, but we did managed to schedule a Swedish Massage and a Facial.:lmao:

Well, you have piece of mind and unfortunately, AAA once again gives out erroneous information.

Channing, there's no french door to the concierge balcony from 4321.

Lyn, I think you made a good request. Personally, I didn't miss the balcony at all. A pictures worth a thousand words though and we have Janet2K to thank for some great shots of turret suite 4321. Unfortunately, I can never get the search to work, but I'm pretty sure that Mr. Disney has some pictures posted in this thread for the honeymoon suites on the 2nd floor. I just have no idea how far back to look.

****NEW INFO****
I'm writing back to see if I can get some further information, but I just received an e-mail from IPO. We've been discussing for a while what decorating themes are in the honeymoon turret rooms in RPC, and here is their latest update:

PS: Just an update on the room fabrics, the Grand Floridian has started rehabs of rooms and the rooms you are interested in are going to be redone in July and into August. EVERYTHING is changing. I will probably not know what the new designs are until that time.

Again, I'm going to see what else I can find out from them (so don't everyone inundate IPO with e-mails! ), and I'll report back as soon as I learn anything further.

***MORE NEW INFO***

Here is the further information I just received:

All I know schedule wise, is that building five - Sago Cay - begins 5/06/07. After it is completed they move on to building seven - Conch Key. Each building will be done until all are completed by the end of December. The Main Building will have rooms worked on in July and August with the work being limited to one floor at a time. Room 4008 - Victoria Suite will be done in October.

Sorry I do not have more information as to buildings eight or nine (Sugar Loaf may not be done this year, as the word is there will be extensive work done there, nothing offical though).

If I get updated information, I will let you know.

It is nice to get some "official" information! Sounds like our beloved GF will be sparkling new sooner than expected! :goodvibes

yes, channing is right, room 4021 is the BEST! i have pics in my trip report in my signature. I would definately request that kind of room. the worst they can say is they dont have any available. if there isnt one on the first day, you may be able to switch after a night or two. i highly reccommend trying! it was heaven!
