Lives4Disney,

I have read most of your posts. I can tell you have had wonderful experiences at the GF. I know your excited about your upcoming trip. Did you decide to stay at the GF the entire stay or are you still splitting your stay?

A few years ago I posted on these boards several times a day. Now I have 3 children, 2 of which are under two. I don't have a lot of time to post but try to get by atleast once a day to check on updates. I have enjoyed reading all of your wonderful experiences at the Grand. I think we are going to be there at the same time. Maybe we will run into each other.

Hi, GF fans....I have a question. I have a really cute Mickey head shaped wreath - only about 12 inches and perfect for the room door. My DH said it would get stolen, but I really would like to bring it and hang it. Do you think things get taken at the GF?? :confused3 I like to think people aren't like that, but then again I have not ever been the victim of a thief (knock on wood). It is really cute, but not worth a whole lot.

Just bumping this up a bit for Irisbud's great pics - Still waiting!

I absolutely loved the Walt Suite when we were there in July. I posted pics of that on this thread somewhere a bunch of pages back. The concierge CMs told me Roy's was just a bit different with more "Horse" and "Polo" pics. Walt's suite was filled with original Imagineering art and family photos. I am such a fan so that was just a kick for me. :goodvibes I am thrilled that there were so many fantastic upgrades at the GF!! :wizard:

Lives4Disney :)

Lives4Disney,

I personally believe that you are not allowed to hang anything on the hotel door. You should check with the GF to make sure. :)

Ok, that helps the decision. ;) I remember people having their door al decorated for a birthday or something so I figured I could do this. I will just hang it in our room.

Thanks,

Lives4Disney :)

Myra, we decided to just stay put and check in to the RPC on 12/19. We do enjoy the BW area, but we figured trying to pack up with all our extra Xmas stuff would not be as easy as it usually is. RPC is our favorite place to be and we figured to just go ahead and go for it since it's Christmas.

When do you check in?? CinderellaFan (Angela) is getting married there on 12/21, too, and will be there for a few days after. We should meet! Happy planning!!

Channing aka Lives4Disney :sunny:

Lives4Disney,

Your welcome. But as I said, check with the hotel.

I love reading your reports. We had a flood in our bathroom while we were staying in a delux room and maintenance never came to fix it or clean it up that night. No big deal, but I feel because we didn't make it a big deal the next day they gave us the Roy Disney Suite for the rest of our stay or maybe they must not have had any other rooms available for us so we lucked out!

Have a great trip! :)

This is a question for anyone who has been at the GF with in the last few months. I'm wondering if a special CM is still there. Does anyone know who I am talking about? He is tall and handsome and wears glasses. He was a wonderful CM and rumor had it that he may be leaving or already done so.

Oh, that sounds like a CM we met in RPC. He was still there is September if it is the same one.

Irisbud, what a wonderful surprise! Talk about magic. :wizard: You too magical4us4. :sunny:

Heather, best wishes for a perfect wedding, honeymoon and life together.

Channing, on one of our holiday stays in SL a fellow DISser had a wreath on their door. It remained there through their stay. Sorry I don't remember who it was.

minnie my my, your experience with the cake sounds like Channing's with some arrangements at the Polynesian concierge. CMs make all the difference in the world. Thankfully almost all the WDW club level CMs come through...well all WDW CMS really. It is why we keep going back isn't it?

Channing, We had a wreath on our door last year in SL with no problems. Took a magnetic door hanger and it worked perfectly. Have fun!

As to wreaths on doors, we've also seen them at BCV. DVCers tend to be fanatical WDW lovers and there are many decorations to be seen. I've also read that the same is true in FW but have not stayed there during the holidays.

Channing,

We are checking in on the 18th. It would be nice to meet you while we are there. I have never actually met a fellow poster on these boards. I know what you look like from your posts so I will keep my eyes open. I have 3 boys. My husband will probably have to stay home this trip because of work but my mother and sister will also be with me. I am still hoping that RPC will come open. I was so disapointed when I had to change my reservation and lose my RPC room. We stayed RPC last year and had the most magical stay. It was very similar to the ones you have had. I am glad I was atleast able to get a room in SL but it want be quiet the same. We just love sitting in the lounge in the main building drinking our coffee while listening to the orchestra play. I need to stop thinking about that and focus on the fact that we are still doing concierge at the GF. Vacations don't get much better than that, in my opinion.

BCV23,
You are right. Most WDW cm's do come through and that is one of the reasons we love disney so much. We go to Disney every 2 to 3 mths. and I never get to much of it.

Lately we have been checking out other resorts to fairly pick our favorite. We were long time loyal CR guests (26 years to be exact) since I born. A few years ago we stayed at the Polynesian and have only been back to the CR 2 times. After staying at almost all of the resorts we can each say that the GF and Polynesian are our favorites.

Once again, Channing and Angela, I would love to meet you both.

Myra

Every 2 to 3 months...you are so lucky! :sunny:

The Polynesian and GF are our two favorites too besides BCV which is just a very different experience.

I've only met one DISser personally and it was so much fun. Hope you all meet up and most of all have wonderful trips!

Hi everybody! Sorry for the delay in getting pictures up, I am going to have to photoshop them a little because my camera stunk. I will be posting them in the next day or two though, and have already started my trip report.

To answer some questions: we were booked in a standard RPC room. I had requested a king bed, nonsmoking with a MK view. I didn't get my MK view, but considering what we did get, I couldn't care less. We had checked in with Mejay (who was really great) around noon and she told us that our room was not ready yet, and she would call us when it was. I didn't ask her if our requests had been met, bacuse I figured we would get what we would get, and I was just going to be happy to have my two nights in RPC before we had to move over to AKL. We went to MK until around five and never recieved a phone call, so BF and I made the mutual decision that we would return to the resort as our room almost certaintly had to be ready by now, as check in was at three.

By the time we arrived, Mejay had left for the day and another CM (I am so embarassed that I forgot her name, she had very dark curly hair and was also wonderful...I'll attribute it to the shock that was about to come) looked up our room on the computer. "Oh my goodness," she said, and repeated "oh my" to herself a coupld of times. I figured from the look on her face this was a good "oh my", not a bad one like when they rinse out your hair after dying it  (that's a long story). "What?" I asked, practically bouncing off the edge of my seat with anticipation while BF managed to look bored somehow. "You just booked a standard room?" she asked. "Yes," I answered, now knowing this had to be fabulous. Yeah, I got my MK view...Maybe a honeymoon room or a turret room. She double checked whatever it was she was seeing and said, "let me take you to your room. It's right down the hallway here on this floor." We got up from the desk and turned left down to the bend in the hallway, where there was a set of double doors that had its own section of hallway complete with a sitting area and a small Christmas tree on a table. She walked over to the doors, practically jumping up and down with excitment.
"Welcome to the Roy Disney Suite," she said.
"Oh my God," I said, nearly fainting and hoping that this wasn't the cruelest of all jokes ever played on me, or a magnificent dream I would wake from all too soon.
"If our luggage is in here I'm staying," said my poor, un-DIS educated BF, who obviously had no clue what was happening to us
She showed us around the suite and it was just fabulous, absolutly superb. Everything about it was wondeful and lavish, but in an understated way that made you feel right at home. I can't find words to descride the way it was softly decadent but still touchable. You could tell it was meant to be enjoyed rather than looked at but not touched. We felt right at home there. It was a dream come true, even without the castle view. The jacuzzi tub was great after long days in the park, and we had a wonderful room service breakfast one morning. It was fabulous.

Channing: we actually weren't celebrating anything. I think that maybe the room was unbooked for the two nights we were booked for RPC, which is why we were upgraded so laviously and unexpectedly, though that is only speculation on my part. When I was writing down the things we had done each night for the trip report I'm going to write, I actually remembered how you and your family had been upgraded for your birthday, and thought about how wonderful it must have been for your daughters to have such a cute room, as we were told that the two rooms (Walt's and Roy's) were layed out identically. The kid's room made me wish I had children to sleep in it! And If it wasn't perfect enough, the very understated equestrian theme of Roy's suite was a great one for us as we are horse trainers. I just loved the homey feel of it. It was not snobbish at all.

I promise to post pictures and a little more after I get them edited!

What a wonderful upgrade! Can't wait to see the pictures!!! :) I check in at the GF on Monday and I can hardly wait! :)

Hi everyone!

I was on the disney site this morning to see if my available dates are indeed availabe for December 2007 and they are. Also, I had a live chat with a person on this site! I asked them about the refurbishment and they said it is true, but they won't know when it will happen until one to two months ahead of time.

Just a little note to let you all know! Now, if we can just get some inside information on this! :smooth:

BCV23,

We are pretty fortunate to get to go so often. We only live about 3 hours away so the drive is not too bad. I would hate to live any farther from "the world". I still have to check out Pop and the Boardwalk and will do that in March. I'm glad I've checked them all out now so I can get back to my favorites. I don't know why I felt lik I needd to try them all knowing that nothing will beat the Grand or the Poly for me, but I did. After march you will only be finding me at the Grand or Poly.

Myra, I was checking WDW website yesterday and just for 12/19 and on to the 24th they had RPC available. (I was just checking for myself to see if it was going to be full when we check in or not, lol) If you can't get in to RPC on the 18th try moving on the 19th if you like.

That would be great to see you! I will have my two girls and my teenage son and DH. If you see us, please introduce yourself. I haven't met another poster at WDW either. :sunny: It is funny, considering all of us that go and go often you'd think we'd be bumping into one another. :teeth:

THANKS everybody for your wreath replies. TripleFigs thanks for the reply and idea how to hang it. :goodvibes

Irisbud - I need to go back and read your review!! :)

Channing :goodvibes Getting SO EXCITED!!! :goodvibes

Irisbud - OMG! That sounds so awesome! I have goosebumps after reading your review. I totally know what you mean about the suite being comfortable yet decadent and meant to be enjoyed. The Walt suite was very homey and cozy and probably the same as Roy's. Almost like stepping into somebody's beautiful apartment or condo. So, hopefully this stay has made a Disney World fan (or at least GF fan) of your BF!?!?! I can't wait to see the pics. :)

One thing I have noticed in reading all these reviews is that nobody receives the call regarding the rooms being ready, lol.

Misti, hope you have a perfect stay at the GF too. pixiedust:

You have a long trip ahead of you! Are you able to fly nonstop after fueling at Kona or Honolulu or do you stop on the mainland somewhere?

We returned from your beautiful island just over a month ago and I miss it!

We're returning to the GF next month. But sounds like so many of you will be there so soon. Enjoy everyone!

Channing,

Thank you for your tip. I am so glad you saw that. I called hoping I would get to move over but decided to ask first to just see if the 18th was available too. It was!!!! I took it immediately. I am so excited to be back in the main building. I requested my MK view so we will see what we get. I am so excited about this trip. We should definitely run into each other now. I will look for you in the lounge. My boys are 6, will be 2 the day we arrive, and 6 months. My mother and sister will be with us also. It doesn't look like my husband will be able to meet us later in the week. His secretary has been out sick for the last 3 months. He owns his own business so he is swamped trying to keep up with things.

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you.

Myra

Congratulations, Myra!!! :cool1:

Nice tip, Channing! :sunny:

Myra, that is great!! I am sure we will see you there. That is nice you have your mother and sister to help you with your little guys!

BCV - Thanks for the nice words. We will all have a fantastic time. :wizard:
