Mike, that sounds just terrific! I am so glad it turned out great! :)

We were major CR fans (too many stays to count) until we tried the GF after 15 CR yrs and tons of stays (we always thought GF was too froofroo and vanilla) Wow! We were so wrong. I still think 1900 PF decor/atmosphere needs a lift, but love everything else. ;)

Glad you tried GF over the other two monorail resorts and loved it. :thumbsup2

We just came back from a stay at the CR Atrium Club and the rooms there had DVD players. Just wondering if the GF rooms have them as well.

Terry, GF rooms don't have DVD players. They probably will after the rehab as that's when CR got theirs.

We usually hook our portable DVD player up to the TV. I think you can request one from concierge and they will loan you one - and movies too.

Lives4Disney,

Is the GF going to go through a rehab? Do you know when that is going to take place? Do you know which building they are going to do first? We will be staying at the GF-SL during Thanksgiving week next year, do you think we will be staying right in the middle of construction? TIA!

Terry, I have read here on the boards that the GF will be going thru a rehab starting Sept of '07. I THINK (not sure) but I think I read that SL would be first - so you may be really lucky and have a new room. Honestly I am not 100% sure of this SL info, but I did read a post by BrianD that the rehab is coming and thought SL being first was mentioned somewhere in that thread. If they do the construction like they did the Poly, it was one lodge at a time and not a whole lot of noticable or disruptive construction otherwise. Sorry I don't have perfect info! I am just going on what I read and what I think I remember reading. Maybe try a search on this topic?? Or, PM BrianD - he has posted on this GF thread before and is very nice and informative.

Good luck! We have done Thanksgiving at the GF a couple times and it was wonderful - any time there is, lol.

Hi Terry,

I remember reading the same information Lives4Disney mentions above regarding the rehab starting in September 07 and that building #6 (SL) would be the first to go through the rehab.

It's a tough call to say whether or not the rehab would affect your stay, but I think it would be worth the risk of being one of the first to stay in a newly updated room - plus, I can't imagine that Disney would inconvenience the guests staying in SL/GF. The likely scenerio would be a floor by floor renovation; does anyone know the average time it takes to rehab a floor in one of the GF buildings?

SO glad you had a great time! the GF is heaven on earth! :cloud9:

Thanks! Have a wonderful time on your Honeymoon!

I have a romantic story from our stay - while we were relaxing in one of the hammocks on the beach we were lucky enough to catch a wedding proposal on the beach. The groom to be, brought his girlfriend to the beach and had her face the wedding pavillion, of course she was asking a million questions as to why he was doing this - until he popped the question. It was another magical Disney moment...

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comments. Dh and I were just discussing the matter and said that they took our reservation and that if for any reason they cannot accomodate us in the SL, they will have to put us somewhere comparable (maybe the RPC? ;) ) so we'll just keep our reservation and see how it goes.

Hi everyone! Just returned from a fabulous four night five day trip, half of which was spent at the Grand Floridian, in room 4311, which was a dream come true upgrade... The Roy Disney Suite! We had the best time! Very few lines, good tables at all of the restaurants we booked, towel animals, and dream fastpasses. I will be back later to post some pictures after I have them burned to CD. (my mem. card was scrathed and they didn't sell the right one anywhere in "the world"). Thank everyone so much for all of your great advice! We had the most magical time ever!

Have a great day!

Hi everyone,

We have had a trip booked to SL for a while now that is coming up a few days. This is our 3rd time at the Grand Floridian and 2nd concierge experience there. We are so excited to be going back during the Christmas season. Originally had RPC but had to change dates and now they don't have any openings. I'm still hoping for a cancellation though. Anyway, I have had on again and off again service from IPO. I called today to add a request and got the most wonderful CM. He answered on the first ring which is a first for me - I usually have to leave a message. I immediately felt the Disney magic when he answered with the most cheerful voice I have heard all day. I'm glad I called because a cake I had ordered and given my credit card number for was not showing up. This is birthday cake for my son and supposed to be a surprise the day we get there (his 2nd birthday). You can imagine how disapointing that would have been. Denny took care of everything and said he would hand deliver the chef my order himself. I am so excited. He arranged for a plush Mickey, Donald, and Goofy to be in the room when we get there for my ds too. I just gave him my credit card # and it was done. He was just awsome. I had a feeling that I needed to check on it so I thought I would call instead of emailing. I had placed the original order with the IPO department but they apparently never processed it. I am so glad I got Denny. I think I will take him something special when we get there. It has been a long time since I have spoken to someone with that much zeal and excitment in the IPO. He really would make Walt proud. Anyway, we can not wait. Now if there will only be a cancellation in the RPC it will be perfect. If not though, I will enjoy being in SL and thankful for every moment of it.

Irisbud! That is so awesome!! I recognized that room number before I read which suite it was. We were also upgraded in July to the Walt Disney Suite, 4411, right above Roy's. :sunny:

Can't wait to see your pics and hear more about it!! Mine was for my 40th bday - did you have a celebration of some kind??

Glad you had a wonderful stay! :goodvibes

Minnie My My - I met Denny during our March stay. He WAS so bubbley and fun and I thought the same as you. :) Maybe I should CALL IPO as they have not replied to my week old email, lol. It is luck of the draw who you get. ;) Have a great trip!

Minnie,

We had the pleasure of meeting Denny many times at the GF! He is a very wonderful person. He even gave my kids a tour to Gaspy's and made them feel very comfortable at their first stay in RPC. Be sure that things are taken well care of since Denny said so!

Enjoy your trip!

Congratulations on the awesome upgrade!!! Was the upgrade a part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration or a random act of Disney Magic? :wizard:

I'll be looking forward to any pictures you have time to share. :sunny:

Hi, GF fans....I have a question. I have a really cute Mickey head shaped wreath - only about 12 inches and perfect for the room door. My DH said it would get stolen, but I really would like to bring it and hang it. Do you think things get taken at the GF?? :confused3 I like to think people aren't like that, but then again I have not ever been the victim of a thief (knock on wood). It is really cute, but not worth a whole lot.

Just bumping this up a bit for Irisbud's great pics - Still waiting!

I absolutely loved the Walt Suite when we were there in July. I posted pics of that on this thread somewhere a bunch of pages back. The concierge CMs told me Roy's was just a bit different with more "Horse" and "Polo" pics. Walt's suite was filled with original Imagineering art and family photos. I am such a fan so that was just a kick for me. :goodvibes I am thrilled that there were so many fantastic upgrades at the GF!! :wizard:

This is a question for anyone who has been at the GF with in the last few months. I'm wondering if a special CM is still there. Does anyone know who I am talking about? He is tall and handsome and wears glasses.
