There are rooms in the Tower on both the Magic Kingdom side and Bay Lake side that are over Chef Mickey's.

Yes, that's what I thought....but when I read ZZUB's TR he mentioned hoping to be closer to the MK end than Chef Mickey's - that's why I am a bit confused...cannot seem to place it in my mind's eye - if that makes sense.

Or I read the TR wrong, which is certainly not impossible!;)

... But he did tell me they were able to accommodate one of our other requests, we were on what I call the Magic Kingdom side of the building. As contrasted with the Chef Mickey side. ....And I don’t really imagine the view from the MK end is significantly different than the CM end. I just wanted to be away from the noise. We were on the 8th floor, just 3 rooms down from the end. As I would later point out to ZZUBY, looking at the Contemporary from the front, we were three up and three over.

Well there are rooms on the other side of the Tower and if your on that side the closer you are towards the Magic Kingdom. The 1st year my family and I stayed at the Contemporary we were in room #4848 on the 12th floor, which is the closest room you can get to the Magic Kingdom.

Not your fault, I probably wasn't very clear. If you think about the CR being a rectangle, Magic Kingdom is on one side and Bay Lake on the other. Both sides of the tower have rooms over Chef Mickey's on the south end of the building.

The MK is actually north of the Contemporary. So rooms on the north end of the MK side of the building are closer to the MK and farther away from Chef Mickey's.

Sorry if I added to your confusion.

:rotfl: It doesn't take much these days.;) Okay! What I think is that Chef Mickey's is not as far to the north side as I thought...haven't been there in I don't know how many years....well, yes I do...it was 1988... or was it 1990...no later than 1990...which was also our last stay at CR (Tower room, Mk view).

These days we never wander beyond the shops and elevators on our yearly stop to visit CR ...but that will change in December 2009 for a holiday stay in a CR MK view room again. ::yes::

Thanks much for the patient explantions...:flower3:

Just returned last night from our 5 night stay at the CR!

We checked in on Wed, Oct 8th and were told our room on the Bay Lake side would be on the 6th floor. I asked if there was a higher floor available so we were moved to the 9th floor. Our room was the last room (4524) closest to the new Bay Lake Tower and far away from CM. We only had one room next to us and the other side was the fire exit. We LOVED this location it was very quiet and we had no foot traffic going past our room at all. Our view of the lake was beautiful. We LOVED it. It was very relaxing and loved to people watch and watch the boats and water parade go by. In the distance we could see Epcot and could also see their fire works when the time was different from Wishes. When we opened our room door, we faced the castle and could see it perfectly through the tall windows. To us it was like 2 views in 1. Every night we took our balcony chairs and sat on the large balcony fire exit to watch wishes. We were permitted to do this since it was a way to walk down to the 1st or 4th floor but we had to put a tray in the door to keep it ajar because there was no return access.

We heard no noise at all from CM and hardly any noise from the BLT construction except occasional beeping when a truck would back up (I actually thought it was someone's alarm clock going off) Most of the new Contempo Cafe is done and we saw no activitiy there but we did hear some jackhammering were the old bar used to be during our 9:30 breakfast at CM on our checkout day but you really don't notice after a while because CM is very loud.

PROS
Having everything in one building was very convenient. It was nice to get off the monorail and your room was only a quick elevator ride away. It was also nice to be able to run down to refill our mugs or get a bite to eat without going to far.

Buses were great

CM's were very nice and knowledgeable.

Views were BEAUTIFUL! Especially at night with everything lit up.

Loved the free internet

There was plenty of storage space to be able to unpack and keep everything organized.

CONS

Someone must have spilt milk by the fridge and onto the rug between the cabinets because when you opened the cabinet door, it had a sour milk smell.:sad2:
.
Housekeeping was not up to par when it came to the bathrooms. We had mold on the grout lines on the back of the sink. Dust in the corners, toothpaste or deoderant splatter on the wall behind the towel rack and dirt and splatters on the wall paper. Only 2 hand towels were provided everyday even though we are a family of 4, I prefer 1 per person like all other hotels provide. Also, only 1 bottle each of shampoo and conditioner was given and they are quite small and not enough for a family of 4 (2 with long hair)to shower everyday with. we had to call down and ask for more. Finally we just left a note but I felt that I did not have to keep asking. Tissue box was not replaced when emptied and thrown away which created a problem since my daughter had a cold.

Bathroom set up is horrible. Why on earth would you put the toilet in the enclosed room? It should be the shower there so someone could shower and someone else could use the toilet or sinks at the same time. All I could think of was how many people must have wiped themselves and then opened the door with the same hand before they could get to the sink to wash their hands:eek: That thought grossed me out and I made sure I Clorox wiped all the door handles and light switches along with a few other things. The big space in the toilet area is a complete waste of space. They should have installed shelves or drawers there instead of leaving a big empty space that only had a hook on it. As much as I loved the look of the sinks, when you washed the refillable mugs, there was water everywhere. (hence the splatters on the wall of hot chocolate left from previous vacationers) Also, when you showered there was no where to lay your clothes or towel. Did they expect us to walk across the bathroom to the towel rack soaking wet or go into the toilet area to get something off the hook or closed toilet? (mind you the bathroom is pretty large and the floor would now be soaked) The whole bathroom was poorly designed.

All in all, we had a GREAT trip. We all agree that we love the convenience of the CR and the views were great and the rooms are nicely decorated and spacious but we also missed the resort feel and cozy feeling that the GF has. We would definitely stay at the CR again. It is not on our never again list like the Poly.

Thank you for posting that honest review, because I enjoyed reading it. :thumbsup2

I have been looking at pictures of the rooms and I have a question. Do just the rooms in the tower have computers? All of the garden wing room pictures I have seen do not have computers on the desks

I have a few questions regarding the resort as I am leaving next weekend  .

1. What websites are you able to access from the computer in the room? My DH wants to make sure he can check on his fantasy football stuff. He says we have enough memory cards for the camera so we won't have to download our pictures and therefore would not need our laptop....unless he can't get to the websites he needs.

2. My DH's only request for this vacation is to watch the Bills vs. Dolphins game on Sunday the 26th. From what I can tell, this will be shown on CBS. How can I find out if he can watch this in the room? What local CBS station does Disney show? Anyway to find out? I'm worried they would show the Tampa Bay game instead.

3. Are they still showing movies by the pool at night? Is the schedule online somewhere?

4. Any updates on the new counter service restaurant? I did read where someone said it should be ready the first week of November...which would be the week after we are there...of course!! :rotfl: Any chance for an early opening date?;)

Thanks!

1. Your husband should have no problem looking up his fantasy Football website. As for websites not allowed I know that some of them are Youtube, Wikipedia (although I found if you did a search for something and clicked on the Wikipedia link it will work) and Photobucket, so that will be a problem for uploading your photos if that's the site you use. Also I don't remember seeing a thing on the computers to upload memory sticks, although I maybe wrong about that. Besides that I am sure they have filters on any adult themed websites.

2. If he can not watch the game in the room the next best place is the ESPN Club at the Boardwalk.

3. Yes they are still showing movies by the pool if the weather will allow it, so all you do is check the board out there each day to find out which one it is.

4. Based on the pictures from Denise's website (nbodyhome) the new counter service location is almost finished, however there is still no word on the official opening date. Anyway here is a link to her site with the pictures of it. http://www.mousesteps.com/index.php...sk=view&id=224&Itemid=65&limit=1&limitstart=1

I've just caught up reading through the thread and I am so excited.

I can't wait until our trip! Our kids do not know yet, we are going to tell them at Thanksgiving. They will be SO excited to hear we are staying at the resort with the monorail going through it (that's what they always say when we go over there to eat/visit).

I can't imagine a better place for such a short trip, the easy access we'll have will be monumental on saving time. 4 days as we all know will just FLY by. I hope I can soak it all in and slow down time. :)

I love all the news and pictures recently. So many people will be there during the Christmas season. We are jazzed even more because of our room discount plus free dining. I just read in the Mousesavers newsletter that this is the first time ever Disney has given a room discount with free dining, much less during the time I'm going (through the 23rd). We saved $694 on the first discount then $420 on the free dining.

I actually was a little worried that I had both discounts but now that I see it confirmed in the Mousesavers newsletter I won't be concerned any longer (plus my TA keeps saying it's not stacked, it's included). Here it is if anyone else has been concerned about stacked codes: Disney Rewards Visa Cardholders can get FREE Dining and in some cases, a room discount when you book a full price Walt Disney World vacation package for check-ins most nights 11/9/08-11/22/08, 12/14/08-12/20/08. FREE Dining has never been offered during this time period in the past, and never with a room discount, so this is a phenomenal offer!

Thank you all for the news and updates. It helps the time pass although it feeds my Disney mania!

That’s so funny, I thought the same thing concerning the door for the toilet and having to open a door before washing your hands.

Outer Rim tribute, CR better bring it back!

I have no idea what "local" games are typically shown by Orlando's local network affiliates, but if your husband is as die-hard football fan as I am, he would politely laugh at your question.

There will be no conflict about whether the local CBS affiliate will show the Dolphins game or the Tampa game. Your husband knows that since both the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Dallas Cowboys (whom they play on the 26th) are NFC teams, that game will be broadcast by Fox. And since both the Bills and the Dolphins are AFC games, that game will be broadcast by CBS.

In other words, there's no way the local CBS affiliate can possibly show the Tampa game instead of the Dolphins game. Now, whether or not the local CBS affiliate will show the Dolphins game instead of any other game is a question I can't answer.

And by the way, you are a wonderful wife!!!:thumbsup2
