Denise,
Those photos look great so thank you for taking them and posting them on your site. :thumbsup2

Also while you were at the Contemporary did you find out when the Contempo Cafe would be opening?

Hi!

You are welcome - and I didn't ask anyone, but will next time I'm there. They did a very quick job with it, thank goodness! The construction noise was deafening at times.

For those of you concerned about the walk from the Garden Wing to the Tower, I walked it myself today -- it's 145 of my paces. DH figures one of my steps to be 20-24", but I think it's less than that. Anyway, I got lots of photos, which I'll post when I get home.

And, by the way, it took less than 2 minutes.

:cool1:

Yes, it's not far at all! The MK is a 10 minute walk away, and the tower is much closer. :)

I was thinking back to my stay there this past August with the huge construction area and now it looks amazing.

OK, I've spent a lot of time lurking on the boards and I have to laugh a little. Sometimes it makes me wonder if people were even at the same place. LOL:rotfl2: All over the dis you find folks who love a certain restaurant or menu...and then those who say it's horrible. Same w/ the resorts, buses and noise levels.

Which leads me to my silly question....how is the noise level in the tower rooms?

This upcoming trip we are splurging and staying 3N in the tower :cool1: as part of a split stay. While I've saved this $ and am SO excited .... I am getting more nervous about reports I'm reading from ppl saying the noise/construction was so disruptive! From the pics I've seen the concourse is really coming along! Are they still drilling w/ jack hammers? Any plans to do more of that going forward or is that phase done?

Getting a room in the tower has been VERY difficult. I'm wondering if they aren't offering rooms on the lower levels to keep people further away from the noise.

I'm sorry to post about this...I realize it's very subjective and can change again before we arrive after Thanksgiving. But I would like to hear more from people. Is it disruptive in your tower rooms as you try to go to bed at night? Is CM noise disruptive then?

I keep thinking back to our stay at WL. We were in the main bldg down the hall but opposite side from the Whispering Canyon. It was SO noisy, even w/ towels against the door space. We'd have dd3 just about asleep and whoosh...up would come another loud chorus. We only spent 2N there and were so glad to be on our way home so we could get some sleep. The hotel was lovely, but being in the main bldg was terrible.

I'm looking forward to stepping outside my room and hearing the chears from CM....but I'm hoping they aren't going to permeate INTO the room. Same thing for any construction noise. At the prices for the tower...it would really be hard to swallow.

TIA!

From the pictures on Denise's site (nbodyhome) the Contempo Cafe is almost finished, however they are still doing some work over there in that area. So I would say it's 50/50 that it will either be completed or still being worked on when you're staying there. However chances are they would only work in the mornings and the mid afternoon, so if your at the parks you won't hear anything. Also during the evening there is no noise at all since the workers had left for that day. Although let's say the Contempo Cafe is finished then there are not any noises in the Tower. Finally when it comes to hearing things like the music from Chef Mickey's in your room that won't happen unless your room happens to be over it. However my family and I have had rooms in the past that were over it and honestly it was not bad at all. Although if your room was by the Fantasia store then you won't hear anything from Chef Mickey's.

I think it all depends where your room is. Our room was the last room on the 9th floor near the shops and it was very quiet. We loved it. We had no foot traffic or CM noise. The only noise we heard was low beeping starting at about 7:00 am from the trucks by the BLT backing up. (I thought it was someone's alarm clock at first)

There was someone at the Tempo Grab n Go who was complaining about hearing the CM party song at 10:30 at night though and when we had breakfast our last day at 9:30, they were jack hammering by the old Outer Rim but most people are at the parks at that time.

Thank you both. I certainly am looking forward to this stay...and honestly, happy noises as I step out into the walkway looking over the concourse.:lovestruc I want us to be in the midst of it all!!!!

We are always up early so that isn't a problem. But I was getting a bit apprehensive about falling asleep! Sounds like it won't be an issue. Thank you for the reassurances.

I'm sure someone else could have a diff't opinion. Many don't think WL is noisy. We thought it was much worse than any of our stays at ASMo for noise in the room. The pool was much better and quieter...but the room...oh my goodness:scared1: . At ASMo, even w/ Grad nites, (which I would't do again as the pool was just scary w/ all those teens!:scared1:) we were always able to return to our room and fall asleep easily.

Can't believe we'll be there in just over a mth!

Is that the Cha Cha Slide? I didn't know they did that, but I was in Fantasia Saturday night and all of a sudden it was playing and everyone in Bay View Gifts was dancing. :rotfl2: I have no idea if you can hear it or not because I was right there, but it was great! :thumbsup2 I took some pictures.

I was on the 8th floor on the CM side, although I was pretty close to the elevators. There was no construction noise, I think they're pretty much done with the heavy work. We could hear CM in the morning, but only when they were singing. It wasn't that loud, but you could definitely hear it. I only heard it when I was already awake, though, so it didn't bother me, and I don't know if it could wake a person up.

We had a great stay at CR! Our only snag was getting our bags transferred over from POR. Somehow they were still at POR when we got back from the park that day and went to check in at CR, and then it took several hours after a false start to finally get them sent. Other than that it was great!

That must have been an intresting thing to see in person. Are you also going to post the pictures on here?

I have heard from other sites that it is posible to receive a free upgrade at some resorts, is this true? I will be staying in the Garden wing with my family in August of 2009 and wondered about this. Thanks, Nick

I was upgraded in September from a garden wing standard room (least expensive available) to a Tower Room, Bay Lake View. Don't know how or why - it was alredy in the computer when we checked in

From the way I understand it, it is completely random. Some people get upgrades, but most don't. But if you really want something, you can ask upon check-in. but when doing that, you will have to pay the difference.

Free upgrades at any Walt Disney World Resort are totally random and can happen to anyone at anytime. So to avoid being disappointed incase you don't get on is to make a reservation for the specific view that you want.

It may have been awhile ago that we were there, May, but there was construction even then. We found that the CR had the quietest rooms. We stayed at WL CL and heard WC every morning clearly through he door. We also stayed at the YC which was horrible guest noise wise. We heard our neighbors cell phone vibrating and the cm's in the hall at 6:45 am every morning. At AKL we heard people pass the room. At the CR we heard NOTHING! Nothing from above, beside, outside. The only time we heard any noise was when we opened the doors. We would stay there every time just for the quiet!

Wow! That's wonderful!!! :lovestruc Thanks for posting!!!!

Some added thoughts on noise....we just returned a couple weeks ago. Construction noise (from Contempo Cafe) was never really a problem for us. It mostly happened during the day while we were out anyway and they were finshed most of the major work I think. BUT, we were on the 9th floor, next to last room from the end, right over Chef Mickey's and that was loud. Overall, I would say that the rooms at the hotel were very quite - we could never hear noise from other rooms, outside, or the hallways, but when the annoucement and music started up at Chef Mickey's, wow! We are early risers, so the mornings weren't a problem, but the party lasts until like 10:30pm every night, so every 30 minutes you'd hear the party start and last for about 10 minutes. It was a little annoying when you were trying to fall asleep.

That said - I love the CR and would not hesitate to stay again, even in the same room with the party noise. You just cannot beat the location, the size of the rooms, and the view from the MK tower rooms.

My mom and I are going to stay in the Contemporary! Can we the Fireworks in the top of the Contemporary!

I believe you can only go to the top of the Contemporary (where the California Grill is) with a reservation for the restaurant.

You can go up with a dinner reservation and or a drink at the bar. Some will say you can't go w/o a dinner reservation but when we were there and went to the Cal. Grill many people were going up just for drinks.

My mom and I are going to stay in the Contemporary! Can we the Fireworks in the top of the Contemporary!
