:wave2: Does anyone know when CR is getting a new permanent CS restaurant? TIA

Chef Mickey's Express is the new permanent CS spot. It is currently under construction. Most people say it will be finished sometime in September... but no official date has been set.

Thanks for the info. I would really love for that to be open in December. It would make our stay much more magical. :)

I think there is no doubt that it will be done by then. I think if you look a couple pages back (it might on the photo thread too) you will wind more info on Chef Mickey's Express

Thank goodness! I want to make this trip as easy as possible. If we are paying for the convenience of a monorail resort, I want access to a variety of both cold and hot food items at the CS restaurant. My MIL's health issues require that her diet be super low in sodium, low fat, and since she has diabetes, we have to watch her carbs too. This trip has taken quite a lot more planning than I ever would have expected and this will be my 8th personally planned trip to WDW, so, it's not like I am a newbie or anything.

Have a great time staying there.

We are currently booked in 2 south wing rooms for September 2009. Yes, I know that the rooms are identical in size and decor as the tower rooms, I know we are close to the pool, (which we plan to use a lot) but......I can't shake this feeling that we're really going to be missing out on everything if we don't stay in the tower. I mean, one of the great things about the Contemporary is having everything you need just an elevator ride away. Staying in the garden wing is starting to seem like we won't actually be at the Contemporary. I had originally planned to book tower rooms, but I was nervous about the cost. Now I keep thinking that I should do everything in my power to stay in the tower
Has anyone else who was booked in the wing building gone through these feelings? Were you truly happy once you got there? :confused3

Don't worry be happy, you'll be at Disney World.

I went through the same issues last year, but the budget would not allow for a tower room. We were very pleasantly surprised at the room we had. We had a room overlooking the canal between Bay Lake and 7 Seas Lagoon, it was one of the quietest, most peaceful rooms I have ever stayed in. Sitting on our patio just listening to the occasional boat and not much else really was wonderful after a hectic day in the parks, etc. BUT the hubbub, the monorail and all the energy of the CR was a short (2 minute?) walk away.

I would not hesitate again to stay in the Garden Wing, if I thought that the tower was going to break the budget. (Only 53 days).

Yep. I did garden wing ("GW") in 12/07. Loved it but before arrival was very concerned that I was missing something by not staying in the tower.

Were you truly happy once you got there?

Absolutely. Walking to the MK. Seeing wishes from the 4th floor balcony. Riding the monorail from your hotel. It is so worth it.

I can't answer whether you'll like it or not. For me it came down to realizing that the CR location can't be beat if you like going to the MK. I realized I use a hotel room at WDW as a place to stay so why pay for Tower prices if I am really not going to use it. If I were going to use the CR as a "resort" I might feel differently (but then I usually buy the cheaper rooms even when I use a hotel as a resort).

I ultimately decided I would give the GW a try and if I felt like I was missing out on something, that next time I would find a way to stay in the tower. I would stay in the GW again without hesitation.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Deep down, I know you're right, but jeez, I keep thinking about the tower...the views, the accessibility, it drives me nuts. My DD turns 8 while we're going to be there, and I just wish I could give her a view of the castle for her special day, but the fact is, I won't saddle my family with debt just for that. I can't do that. Financial peace of mind over the long haul trumps everything else...

Good points! We're staying there for 2 main reasons....DW and the kids love the Magic Kingdom, and we wanted an easy place to get back to after leaving the park at lunch for a swim/rest break. Plus, my daughter has always wanted to stay at the "Temporary" (as she call it:) )

Even though my family and I have not stayed in the Garden Wing rooms before I have walked from them to the Tower and it took me 5 minutes or less, so that will take you no time when wanting to visit the 4th floor stores and etc. So I would not try to worry about anything and to just enjoy staying at the Contemporary because it is a great place to stay.

The things we have to go through for our daughters! That is a very cute story.

I hope she has a wonderful birthday. I'm assuming you have a plan but for my $.02, Chef Mickeys for breakfast making sure they know it is her birthday. If you really want go out, secure California Grill for dinner during wishes.

If she is really a "temporary" fan, then you can't go wrong.

Yep, already got that one on our radar, will be doing that the morning of her birthday.
By the way, I know all about the chocolate monorail that you can get delivered to your room. I saw on the Contemporary's room service menu that they have a couple of other specialty treats on there. Has anyone had any of those other items ordered? I'd like to have something special like that for her later on her birthday when we get back to the room, and I wasn't sure what might be the most appropriate for an 8 year old girl. Thanks.

I should have figured that if you are planning for a WDW trip OVER A YEAR AWAY :goodvibes you have done your homework.

We are headed down in less than two weeks for a stay in a GW room. These are exactly my worries. I keep thinking that we'll wish we were in the tower. But...I'm hoping that the peace of the GW rooms will make it all worth it. If we have time we'll check out the tower rooms. I believe they will show you a room if you ask?
I'm sure your trip will be fabulous regardless of view! :wizard:

Have a great trip! I'll be waiting to here about your stay when you get back, especially in regards to access to the 4th floor concourse. One thing I do feel good about.....it should be peaceful where we're staying!:thumbsup2

I have a question for Contemporary fans but I am not sure this is the right place. Just curious about what everyone's thoughts are.

We stayed at CR in June 2006 and LOVED it. We stayed at the GF this July and really liked it too but we knew the CR really was our favorite. This has us thinking about buying the CR DVC when it opens. We go to Disney every other year, love the CR - but usually get a pin code. What are fans of the CR thinking of the new tower?
