I am new to this site and came in search of information on CS. Boy have I found it! I have been reading this thread all weekend to get through 30 pages. :) Thanks to all of you for this information. We will be going down to WDW on Thanksgiving day and have been waffling between CSR and CBR. (We have not stayed at either) I have definitely decided to stay at CS and I am very excited about it.

If anyone has stayed at CBR, can you give me a review on why you like CS better? Thanks so much!

I'm wondering if TinkerBelle ever returned from her trip and how it was???

Hi! I know this type of question has been asked but it is often by those who have not stayed at CSR. We stayed at CSR in 2002 in the Ranchos section.
We are staying at CSR again for our trip in May 2004 and I would like to try a different section, or stay in the Ranchos if that will suit us the best. What do you think?
We are both 25 years old and will be on our honeymoon, first in the Caribbean then in WDW at CSR. We don't usually spend a lot of time at the resort but we do enjoy a nice setting. We didn't use the theme pool last trip but we did enjoy our quiet pool since we almost always had it to ourselves.
Close proximity to a pool is not of importance to us however we would like to be close to a bus stop. Close proximity to El Centro could go either way for us. We don't mind being far or close to the main area. We adapt to it when we get to our room. The closer we are to something the more we utilize it, the farther we are the less we use it.
Anyone have a suggestion? Especially those who have stayed in the different sections.
Thanks!!!!:):):)

Tnkrbl2199 - I would suggest rancho 7b or cabana 8a. Both of these buildings are close to bus stop#4. Check out my website for some pics of the view from cabana 8a. This building is right next to the main pool area with a short walk to the main building. Casita 5 is also close to bus stop #2. The casitas have great courtyards and fountains.

tink'smom2000 - visit my CSR website below for pics and more info.

Wow, like everyone else I just want to say what a great thread!
I just happened to pick CSR when CRO asked me which mod. I want, I am so glad I did. Thanks for all of the info. Now I have to remember it all.

We recently returned from an 8 day stay at CSR - our first. I wanted to share our experience as I enjoyed reading everyone's info on this thread.

As an FYI, we are a family of 4 - our two children are 3 & 5.

Let me begin by saying that CSR is really beautiful. We did a couple of events at the Grand Floridian and I felt CSR is even more beautiful than GF. (It may be that the colors, etc are just more to my liking). The grounds are lovely.

All the CMs we dealt with were great - very friendly and helpful.

We had requested Cabanas 9B, but were placed in Ranchos 7B. (We decided to just stay with the room they assigned us to). We were very close to the Dig Site pool and the quiet pool for our area was also just at the base of the steps. We were on the second floor - room 7694. We felt the room was a nice size of space. (It was handicapped accessible so perhaps they are a little larger?) The elevator for our building was quite a distance from our room (surprising as it was handicapped accessible), so it was quicker to just use the stairs. We also were pretty close to bus stop #4. It was a bit of a walk to El Centro from our room. The landscaping in the Ranchos area is very nice.

I agree with those who talk about how large the resort is - it is sprawling. Some of the rooms do seem to be very far from the main areas. I overheard a couple of families complaining and changing rooms due to the distance from El Centro, etc.. I also noted that some of the companies holding conventions had arranged special transport golf carts for use of the convention attendees to get around the resort - these had signs on them noting they were transportation for "XYZ" Corporation.

For us, the distance was a bit of an issue. Had it just been us, it wouldn't have been too bad, but with our littles (especially the 3 year old), the walk to El Centro was a bit much especially after walking at the parks all day. We rented strollers at the parks.

Our room was very clean and in good repair. Housekeeping did a good job. The first night we called for extra pillows, but they never came. We were too tired to try back, so we just left a note the next morning and we had them in the room when we returned. No towel animals, but on 2 days, Housekeeping had played a little with dd's toys.

Our first day, we had lunch at the Pepper Market. Just sandwiches for us and pizza for the kids, but it was good and fresh. We also had room service twice - pizza and salads one night when we were too tired to make the walk up to Maya Grill and breakfast one morning. The breakfast sandwiches (room service) were a pretty good value - they were huge and came with a fresh fruit cup for $5.25. The food was good both times. Room service delivery timeframes were good as well.

We only did the Dig Site pool two evenings after returning from the parks. It is nice. The kids liked that there are steps going so far around it - they had a lot of room to play around the pool. The kiddie pool was freezing - too cold for them to play in. The kids enjoyed the sandbox and play area at the Dig Site. One word of warning, kids in wet swimsuits will FLY down those slides, even the little ones. I thought they wouldn't slide well due to being wet from the pool, but dd went flying down one of the little slides in the jungle gym and landed about 4 feet from the slide's end with a thud. She was shaken but okay. I have never seen a little one go so fast down a slide. It was like her own private version of Test Track. We also used the quiet pool in our area one night - it was beautiful there as well.

We did purchase refillable mugs, but they weren't a good value for us. El Centro was too far of a walk to refill them and Siestas was usually closed by the time we returned from dinner. We only refilled them once. But, we have them as souvenirs now. I might recommend checking out the proximity to your room and weighing how much time you will spend at the resort (and what time of day) before deciding to purchase them.

The bus service was good. We hardly ever waited longer than 10 mintues - only one morning we waited 1/2 hour for the EPCOT bus. Unfortunately , it was morning we had an early PS for the Princess Breakfast in Norway, but, thankfully, they took us a little late. We only ever had one bus trip where anyone had to stand.

Overall, we were very pleased with CSR and I wish we were back there right now. I hope all of you who will be going in the near future have a great trip!!

Carol

Welcome back, BMoT! We're checking into CSR on Sat and everything I see and hear (online of course) only gets me more excited.

Quick questions:

- I've had a tough time choosing between Ranchos and Cabanas. The distance won't be as big of a deal for us (kids 8 and 6), but I was thinking of requesting Cabanas 8 (a or b, doesn't really matter). IYO, would Ranchos be OK for us?

- I believe the rooms have irons, but do they have blow dryers (this is a DW concern)?

- We planned on getting refillable mugs, but the distance issue seems valid. What about the new honkin' big ones? At 64 oz. and $20, they seem to be a good value.

- Did you eat the breakfast buffet at Maya Grill?

Thanks!

We just returned from 7 days at CSR (9/21-9/28) and had a wonderful time. I had heard a lot of pros and cons regarding CS, but it worked out great for our family. We faxed a request for 9B and received it! We were in room 9521 which was a standard view, but had a lovely view of a pond out our window. No parking lot to be seen! We were close to the bridge to the digsite and close to el centro and bus stop number 1.

The kids and I loved the slide and the theming of the dig site. My only complaint was Siesta's closed early which meant one nite at 9 pm we had no towels, no lifejackets and no margaritas. We managed to struggle thru. FYI, the depth of the pool is 3'6" at the shallowest, too deep for my 5 year old to touch, kind of a pain.

The pepper market was very convenient and tasty. We ate there several times. The cast members were all friendly and helpful. Mousekeeping was average.

Overall, the resort was nicer than I expected and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Last note, the bus service was great. Never a long wait, not too full. BTW if anyone rode the bus with a cute 5 yr old yelling out the bus stop numbers that was my kid. Sorry for the noise, but she loved being the bus driver.

Welcome back from your trip Carol! I hope you had a great time. Thanks for the post on the resort. We will be going in November with our 2 kids which are 3 and 6. I was concerned about the kids at first but figured that they could care less where we stay. I've read such good things on this thread that I am really looking forward to our stay at CSR.

Any advice for staying at CSR with smaller kids.

Thanks!

Dear Holcomb,

Yes, there are blow dryers provided.

I think the 64 oz refillable mugs might be a good choice. Then one person could go and get it filled and bring it back for everyone - much easier than carrying 4 of them up and back. (And it might be an enjoyable break for the parent who goes for them as the resort really is so lovely).

We did not eat at Maya Grill.

Regarding the Ranchos, I really did like the area we were in - the landscaping was really pretty, etc.. Some of the Ranchos appeared to be quite a distance from El Centro. I think the building we were in was the closest Ranchos building to El Centro and I would estimate that it was a 10 minute walk to El Centro from there. I would just try to make sure that you aren't too far away, especially if you are planning to eat at the hotel restaurants, etc..

Tink's mom...

I was hoping that CSR would be Disney enough for my kids as I had read that it was the most "un-Disney" resort. My kids loved it, though. They don't know any different and I felt like we got plenty of Disney everywhere else.

I don't have any specific advise for staying there with children other than the proximity issues I mentioned before. My kids enjoyed time just being in the room, believe it or not and they enjoyed looking for the frogs & lizards that hung out by our room. They also enjoyed the time we spent at the play area at the Dig Site. Oh, they also enjoyed watching the bedtime stories on TV.

In the gift shop, they had a Cinderella's castle and characters that the kids could play with (on a table with little chairs, etc). Dd
loved that and smart merchandising on Disney's end - I purchased the set for her for Christmas and had it shipped home.

HTH,
Carol

Tink'smom2000 - I would try for a cabana room. 9b or 8a. 9b is very close to bus stop#1 and the main building and a short walk to the main pool area and 8a is very close to the main pool and bus stop #4 with a short walk to the main building. Rancho 7b would be a third choice after any of the other cabana buildings (8b or 9a).

CM's do give rides in the golf carts that bring you to your room. Just flag one down if they are headed in your direction and empty of course. Also, you can use the bus as a internal service if you are staying way back in the ranchos section.

Tired? Take the bus to the main building instead of walking
Theme park buses go:
bus stop 2 - Casitas
bus stop 3 - Ranchos
bus stop 4 - Cabanas
bus stop 1 - El Centro

Downtown Disney buses, as well as Park Exit buses go:
bus stop 1 - El Centro
bus stop 2 - Casitas
bus stop 3 - Ranchos
bus stop 4 - Cabanas

CSR buses go in this order so that guests can hop on board a theme park bus and take it to the main building. Then you can hop on a DtD bus to get back to your room.

Thanks Buzz2001! I love your website. It has great pictures. We were kind of leaning toward the Casitas section. Is there a good building to request? Otherwise we were going to request Cabanas 9b. I was a bit weary about the resort at first but have read great things about it.

Thanks again for the tips!

tink'smom2000...Hi there:wave: ...my husband and I got back from staying at CSR earlier this month. We stayed in the Casitas section, Building Five.

I thought it was the perfect location!! We looked right out onto the lake, not too far of a walk from El Centro or the main pool, and busstop #2 was less than a minute away! Plus we had to comfy hammocks right outside our front door! ;)

Casita 5 was the first building we stayed in at CSR. Great location and views if you are on the lake side. It is close to bus stop #2 along with casita 4. A little longer walk to the pool than the cabanas and a longer walk to the main building. Casitas 1 & 3 are close to the main building. I have a map on my website so you can get a an idea of distances. Just remeber the loop around the lake is just about a mile long so you can kinda gauge how far you would have to walk.

I just spent a week at CSR - Ranchos building 7b room #7656 (2nd floor - facing the quiet pool). We had a great week!
It is a lovely resort. I loved the Ranchos section. The walk to El Centro/The Pepper Market was very comfortable. It was nice to be close to the Dig Site pool and to bus stop #4.

On my last day, I witnessed the Lifeguards getting the kids to wake up Francisco to turn on the water - really cute!

Glad you had a great time Kim! My daughter loves the waking of the gods at the Dig Site.

We just returned from a seven night stay (8/29-9/06) at CS and I thought it was a nice resort for the price we paid ($79.00 a night). We were in Cabana 8B which was close to about everything. It was my wife and two sons (12 & 3) and the three year old love the water slide at the Dig site pool that is all he did over and over we could not get him to get off when it was time to go. The slide closed at 8pm so we would go near closing time so when the slide closed it was easier to get him to leave. LOL. The slide was opened till midnight our frist two nights due to the convention going on. Talking about conventions.... I was told that there were two big ones going on but couldn't tell except for the golf carts traveling around the resort. The golf carts were going kinda fast I think so If you have small children keep a hold of their hands when one comes down the sidewalk. We did not eat at the two places to eat.
The cabanas looked to much like our rooms at the caribbean beach resort we were at last year, so I think I'll try the Casitas as that had a MUCH better theme to them (WOW!!) water fountains and courtyards it was nice. But a far walk to the main pool and the slide for my DS.
one more thing... the HUGE hot tube was nice after the parks it was opened till midnight.

Oh yeah..... Our room 8660 had the "new" smell of carpet when we entered and it was new! I saw a truck in the parking lot changing out carpet in the cabana sections of the resort. They also were replacing some tables so I guess some kind of remodleing was going on there although you couldn't tell.

:D sounds like you had a great trip...we returned mid september from an 8 night stay . we stayed in casitas 3 and were placed ina waterview room, although our ressies were for a standard. Our room overloooked the lake.. it was beautiful..too bad this resort does not have balconies witha view like that...It was only 3-5 min walk to the food court...I would stay there again but the Poly is still my favorite..:Pinkbounc

My hubby and I will be staying at CS for 7 nights - leaving next Thursday. We are so excited. This will be our second time at the resort.

What's the best route to take from the airport? We will be renting a car. I seem to recall something about trying to avoid I-4. We will want to make a stop to purchase water, if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Can I get a massage or reflexology at Coronado? I've read that massages are available, but not much info on what types. If they are available at the health club, do I have to purchase a club pass along with massage purchase if only going for a massage? Anyone know what kind of massages are available and their prices? Thanks for any info.
