The New and Updated Port Orleans Riverside FAQ Thread for 2008 --- NOW CLOSED

I just completed the online checkin today and the only options on the "room requests" dialog were:

  • Pack 'n Play
  • Refrigerator (fee due at check-in)
  • Trundle Bed

I can fully understand the Pack 'n Play and trundle bed options, but the refrigerator option surprised me. I was under the impression from reading wdwinfo and the FAQ on portorleans.org that refrigerators were now standard (i.e that you didn't need to request one and they did not cost extra).

I noticed that you were only allowed to select two of the three requests at a time. Not sure why you can't request a refrigerator when also requesting a pack 'n play and trundle bed (other than that would make for an awful crowded room).

The last thing that I noticed was that there was definitely *no* place to make building/floor requests.

So at this point I am not sure how these room requests have affected my original requests made at the time of my reservation. As a result I will most definitely be faxing in my particular room request a couple days before we arrive.

I was worried about the whole refrigerator thing so I went to the official disney world web site for Port Orleans and this is copied directly from there:

Room Amenities

Pizza Delivery
Satellite TV with Disney Programming
Pack 'n Play playard Available
Rooms and Facilities for Guests with Disabilities
Self-parking
High-speed Internet Access (for an additional fee)
Hairdryer
Safe
Iron and Iron Board
Coffee Maker
Refrigerator

Hope that helps -- I was alarmed for a second because we are staying there in June and depending on a fridge since we have three little ones!!

Don't worry, there will be a free refrigerator in your room at Port Orleans, this is now standard in all Moderate and above Disney resorts.

Giving Disney the benefit of the doubt, that option could be there for the Value resorts........ or it could be just another thing that's out of date or inaccurate about the website (no, surely not?!)

Sorry to jump in with a little rant, but this is one of those little things about WDW Resorts that bugs me.

In 1988, when the first moderate opened, we decided we wanted a change from the Poly and CR so we stayed at the brand new CBR - we were delighted to find the rooms had a fridge. We bounced between all the new resorts for a few yrs, even stayed at the Dolphin for a few trips because of an incredible special rate of $42.50 a ngt.

Anyway, during this time we read that Disney moderates did not have a fridge and thought for sure the info was incorrect...nope...Disney had removed the fridges from the moderates!

A few yrs go by and Disney acts as though they are doing a a wonderful favor for guests by adding a fridge in every moderate room. It is a wonderful addition, but nothing new, just back to the original moderate room amenity!

Geesh!! Okay...rant finished....thanks. :goodvibes

Hi all new to this thread. We are booked POR in October, since we are now an outcast family of 5 according to Disney! LOL! Anyway, I ahd assumed we would automaticfally be put in AB rooms since we required the trundle bed, but have now heard recent reports of others being put in Mansions with rollaways. Is is possible to have 5 and actually request the Mansions? The mansion rooms have more appeal to me than AB and Would prefer to have rollaway so I could just roll it back out in the hall./ Most likely my 3 girls will sleep in the one bed anyway. Any thoughts or Suggestions???
Thanks

Hello all!

I can't believe how close this trip is getting!

I have seen people decorate their hotel room doors at various resorts before - are the doors magnetic like on the cruise ships? If not how do people get the pictures to stick?!

Thanks!

Disney very much prefers to allocate parties of five to the Alligator Bayou section, as those rooms already has the required number of beds installed - plus, they only have a limited quantity of roll-aways to put in Magnolia Bend rooms. They do sometimes use Magnolia Bend when Alligator Bayou is full, so it's certainly POSSIBLE to accommodate five people there, but it's definitely not the preferred choice.

Certainly there's no harm in asking for Magnolia Bend if you wish, and asking again at check-in, however you might find the CMs a bit reluctant.

The trundle beds are a much better option than a roll-away by the way, as the roll-aways take up quite a bit of room space when folded up, whereas the trundles just disappear under one of the existing beds.

:wave2: Long time no see! Welcome to the POR thread!

I'm glad you asked this question because I have been wondering the same thing. We were in AB during our last visit and was thinking it would be nice to try the mansions this trip, just for something different. Like you there are 5 of us. Although my 3 are too big to sleep together. They will be 16, 15, and 6 when we travel. I wonder if instead of a rollaway they would let me bring something of our own for the littlest one to sleep on.

In the refrigerators by the drinks at the food court is there cream cheese? Or do you have to purchase it?
Thanks

just in case no one mentioned it yet... but the moderates do not have "halls!" so you would be rolling it to an outside corridor and everyone walking by would have to manuever around it and it would be subject to the elements... probably not a great plan!

Yes I know, my point was they could just have it back. :) We don't want it or the trundle for sleeping.

disney does not allow a room to be occupied by more people than there are sleeping surfaces... i have friends who co-sleep w/their child, but because he was 3yo, they could not have a king room!
so two doubles for 5 people, unless one is under 3yo, is a no-no...

Maybe you didn't realize that POR allows 5 in a room. Just so you know it is completely my business our sleeping arrangements once we are in that room. My original question has sooo been picked apart by so many "experts" on here that I simply usually do not post for that very reason. Now unless Disney is doing beds checks each night at 9pm, it is really none of their business or yours for that matter if my 3 DD all sleep in the double bed instead of the trundle that is on the floor. According to WDW at the point we are all "legal" POR sleeps 5 My original question was simply can we request the mansions since there have been reports of families of 5 being put there with any hope of getting it. I guess I included too much info for some of you when I simply stated that we would not be using the trundle or the rollaway, however disney seemed fit to accomodate us.

Hello to you too! When are you going? We are going the first part of Oct.

i *do* realize POR sleeps five... we are a family of five and staying there in august! all i am saying is that if you request the mansions and get that request granted, be prepared for the rollaway that they will insist you have... if you opt to leave it folded in the corner, that's your business... whatever floats your boat... sleep in the bathtub once you are in your room, no harm no foul, as long as you have the five "approved" sleeping surfaces that disney requires! whether or not you use them, is totally your choice!

:)

Exactly.... But once again you missed the original question. It was simply anyone request the mansions with 5 and get that request granted?

When I called back in October I spoke with 3 differet CM's and all 3 told me I could not book a mansions room for 5 people unless one was considered a baby sleeping in the playpen/crib. The only reason they did it as exceptions to the rule is when all the trundle rooms in Alligator Bayou were booked up at the time of check in.1 CM told me it was actually a fire hazard to put the roll aways in the mansion rooms and they really were nto supposed to do it at all.

We ended up booking 2 rooms which will probably work out better having 2 bathrooms anyways with a family of 5. hth with my experience.

Thanks, that's what I was really wondering. I guess it never hurts to ask...:wizard:

I know this has been asked many times but I can't seem to find the answers I am looking for. I have read where their is internet hook-ups in the rooms for $9.95 a day. My question is can you get wireless internet anywhere on the grounds of POR? Is it possible to get wireless by the pool, in the lobby, or at the food court?
