June 27, 2009: Day Five, Part Two Shop Till You Drop!
Surviving our parasailing excursion we were safely back at the GF and changing into our swimming clothes. We walked down and headed straight for the quiet courtyard pool. The sun was now brightly shining and the pool was pretty busy. It sure was nice having one of the pools literally steps from our building. We grabbed our towels which the GF provides (another perk) and found some chairs. DH went straight into the water. I didnt feel like swimming so I just put my feet in while DH insisted on splashing me. He can be so lovely at times.
I had enough of the water and went to lay on my chair and people watch...another one of my favorite pastimes on vacation. I took this lazy opportunity to call my family, my brother was over at my parents house so I got to brag to him how I was laying by the pool and it was about 90 degrees all the while he had to work. We chatted for a while, he told us our wedding pictures were not posted yet and wanted to know when they would be. How should I know? Although, I did want to see them too. After being interrogated by him about wedding photos for a bit longer, I talked to my parents, and then I took a nap. It was glorious, but HOT, so I didnt sleep very long.
DH was finding the pool a little too crowded for his liking so he joined me in people watching while he dried off. We discussed what we wanted to do for lunch. I told him since we were going to DTD, we could stop at Earl of Sandwich before we hit the shops. He agreed and I was excited to try something new which gets pretty good reviews around here on the DIS.
We headed back up to the room, I believe DH rinsed off and showered and I just put on some new clothes. Soon we were ready and headed down to the self park lot to retrieve hot and sticky car.
I love how easy it is to navigate WDW, with all the pretty colorful signs you really cannot get lost. We found the first parking lot that we could find on the Marketplace side of DTD and I hoped that Earl of Sandwich was on that side. I forgot we had our Just Married Mickey antenna topper so we put that on before heading into DTD.
Low and behold, there was Earl of Sandwich...it was a good guess because we parked right near it. With grumbling stomachs we walked in and saw the hoards of people in the restaurant...it seemed that Earl was the place to eat today. We got in line, which moved pretty fast. Looking over the menu, we decided to try something new, I am the type of girl who will always get turkey at sandwich joints, not today, I ordered a Hawaiian BBQ ham sandwich while DH ordered himself the Caribbean Jerk Chicken sandwich. We both got fruit cups for dessert in an attempt to redeem ourselves from all the sweets we had eaten so far on this trip...the
DDP was seriously helping us pack on the pounds.
Sandwiches ordered and picked up we ventured out to find a seat. Another perk of going just the two of us was the ease of finding places to sit in busy restaurants. It is so much easier to find a place to sit when you dont have 10 people, many of times, we would end up splitting up so we could just eat!
Before DH tore into his aluminum foil wrapping which kept the sandwich nice and hot, I made him take a picture with it. He proceeded to call me weird.
Photographic evidence. Now lets eat!!
We dug into our sandwiches and both were so very good! I believe I took a bite of DHs and had some of mine. My Hawaiian BBQ had pineapple in it and it was absolutely divine. In fact, last night, as I was looking through our DTD pictures, I actually got a craving for that sandwich. I even asked DH if there was anywhere around here that sells Hawaiian BBQ sandwiches. Mmmm, I am still craving that sandwich...
I was pretty full from my sandwich that I only ate half of my fruit cup. We threw out our trash and started heading to the shopsvery dangerous!
But first, we saw these guys and I needed a picture.
They are inside the pin store. We briefly looked around the store, I was so overwhelmed with all the pins. Pin trading is never anything I got into, but I have always been intrigued by it. I hear it is highly addicting, so it may be better if I dont get involved.
Speaking of being overwhelmed, I knew exactly where we were headed next.
They had cool Pirate displays inside this entrance.
We ended up walking around for a pretty long time. You see, first, I have to take inventory of all the things I want to buy. Then I go back and pick my favorites. That is why we stay in that store forever. We ended up buying a lot of gifts for family back home.
For my little niece and nephew, we got them some cute mini snow globes (Mickey for the boy, Tink for the girl) and those color changing ice cubes (which they went gaga for when we brought them home). We bought my parents a Mickey wine stopper and some chocolates as well as for DMIL and DHs aunt. For ourselves I got a Mickey T-shirt, which will make an appearance later in this here trip report. I also got our Wedding Snow Globe, and a precious moments figurine, both of which we have collections of.
There was also some promotion going on where if you spent so much money and put it on your Disney Visa card you then get a $25 Disney gift card. We had no problem reaching that. As we were checking out, the CM asked if we wanted all this delivered to our room, and of course, we said YES! I just love staying on property!
After putting lots more money right in Disneys pockets we were headed to explore more of DTD.
I forgot to mention that before WoD we stopped in at awesome new store called Tren-D. It is absolutely beautiful in there and they have the nicest, trendiest clothes. It was a bit pricey, so I didnt buy anything, but oh how I wanted to!
Also, I have pictures of some souvies we bought, but they arent uploaded to photobucket at the moment, once I get them on there, I will post them here.
Back on track now, on our way out of WoD we stopped for pictures, of course.
Im trying to do a curtsey like Cinderella. You know there was actually a line forming to take pictures with statues at DTD? I thought it was bizarre!
One with Aurora too.
We posed for pictures with this lovely family we met. They had the nicest dogs.
I do love all the
Lego structures around DTD, it is truly amazing!
The dragon is back there somewhere!
DH with a transformer/robot thing, it looked manly.
Those are some big arches. We were still pretty full from Earls.
We found the crystal shop known as Arribas Bros. and started to look around in there. I got to buy my crystal castle which didnt make it on the trip back home in 2005, it shattered into a million pieces and I was heartbroken. Luckily, we were able to return it and they sent a replacement, which also didnt make it! At least we got our money back, though.
This year we were determined to bring it back with us in one piece! We also got it engraved with our named and dates of our Disneymoon. We bought some other little knick knacks for DHs mom and a Mickey and Minnie standing near a palm tree for our family room which is decorated with palm trees (remember the obsession early in this TR?) Again, we spent a small fortune. We were told that purchases from this store could NOT be sent to the room (breakage), so they said we could pick everything up when we were ready to leave.
Continuing on our adventure, we got to see the very cool looking new restaurant T-Rex.
I love that the sign says he bites, DH touched it anyways, and the Disney gods frowned at him from above.
Beautiful day!
After wandering in and out of a few other stores, we were starting to get tired, until we saw this guy outside of Once Upon a Toy.
We walked inside and noticed it was a zoo!! We walked around for a bit, played with some cute Wall-E toys (we just love Wall-E!), and then left to get our fragile buys from Arribas Bros.
We wanted to get back and shower and get all prettied up for our 8:05 ADR at California Grill and I was hoping we would be able to catch Wishes from high atop the Contemporary.
