June 28, 2009: Day Six, Part One Lions & Tigers & Goofy, Oh My!
We were up at about 8:00 AM the next morning. We followed our same routine of grabbing some breakfast in the lobby. They had the usual cereal and Danishes. We checked the weather before heading out and it said it was going to be in the mid-90s. What a great day to visit Disneys hottest park. Pins and ears on, we walked the long walk to our car which was in the GF self-park parking lot.
In no time at all, we were at the gates to AK. It was about 9:15 once we arrived, which was still pretty good time. The lines werent too horrible, but like I mentioned, we have a knack for finding the shortest line. Soon, we were in AK, and the temperature rose about 30 degrees.
Of course, like every other person in the park, we headed toward Everest to grab ourselves a Fastpass. Oh.my.goodness was it HOT on this day! It seemed we were drenched in sweat by the time we arrived at the FP machines..I know not a pretty sight, but this is Disney in June! We were happy to see a FP return time of about 10:05.
Looking at the time, if we walked very quickly, we could make the 9:40 show of Festival of the Lion King. A definite must see show at AK!
As we made our way through Camp Mickey and Minnie, we discussed getting a FP for Kali River Rapids next since it was so hot out! Luckily, once we arrived at the theater, they were letting people in and we got some nice top seats in either the Warthog section or the Lion section. DH and I cannot remember where we sat, but where it was, it was a great seat, and it felt so good in that theater!
Soon, one of the best shows on Disney property started, I get chills every time!
I love how they get the kids involved in this show, it is so cute!
Low and behold, after the show, we were ready to get another FP and then ride Everest!
On the way, we took some Photopass pictures before we got too sweaty!
AK is so pretty!
We got our FPs for Kali and walked toward Everest, but not before waiting to take our picture in front of Disneys newest mountain.
The photographer that took those pictures was great! He took so many and was really fun. As we were taking our pictures, another honeymoon couple was waiting to get theirs taken, we said congratulations to them as we walked toward the FP return line to EE.
We basically walked right on and soon we were strapped in and ready to go. Love, love, love this ride! The backward feeling is so weird and I dont think Mr. Yeti was working at full force on this day. Does anyone know if they were going to ever get it back to normal working form again?
Since Kali River Rapids is in Asia and that is where we already were, we decided to walk through Maharajah Jungle Trek, AKA The Tigers to kill some time in between our FP time. You know DH and I are obsessed with palm trees? Well, the same applies to all things Tigers. Dont ask, but I think if we could get our hands on a baby tiger, we would.
Along our Trek, we saw many animals...for your viewing pleasure...
Ew. Not a fan of bats, but somehow, I ended up in the bat house, and very quickly walked through, probably without looking twice.
We were very disappointed that you really couldnt see many tigers today. So we decided to definitely come back later in the day and see if more were out.
We continued on our rugged hike.
Cute.
I wish we would have ridden those around the park, AK is huge!
With our hike behind us, it was now time to go cool down on Kali River Rapids. We flashed our FPs to the CM and she let us in. I swear it takes forever to walk through the queue for this ride. On the way, a little girl was pointing at me and telling her mom, Look Mommy, she looks like a bride! The mom laughed and I explained that we were on our honeymoon and I was a bride a couple days ago. The mom then had to explain what a honeymoon is and how it is a special trip that new husbands and wives take after the wedding. It was really cute because the little girl kept talking and asking us questions about our wedding and Disney.
We ended up not being on a raft with the little girl, which was probably a good thing because she would have talked our ears off the entire time. Instead we were in a raft with a bunch of people who had no clue what to do! I think the CMs had to stop the rafts to make sure they were all buckled in. They were definitely from a different country. As we went along we surprisingly didnt get that wet, but the guy across from us, got it the worst. He was absolutely dripping wet! The little wet that we did get was a welcomed relief from the heat, though, and it was just what we needed.
By this time, we decided to head over to Dino Land USA and get a FP for Dinosaur. Then in the meantime, we would grab lunch at Restaurantasaurus. With a Dino FP in hand, it was still pretty early, so it wasnt too packed in the restaurant for lunch. DH got a bacon cheeseburger and carrot cake and I got chicken nuggets (surprise, surprise) with carrot cake. Everything was Disney-good, but I know we couldnt finish off both carrot cakes...the Disney plan is just too much, especially with dessert!
