June 24, 2009: Day Three, Part One -Conquering Epcot!
We had a mission on the morning of our Epcot day, and that was to get to Epcot fairly early and actually get to ride the main attractions.
In 2007, we got to Epcot at about 11:30 and all the Fastpasses were gone, we were left to stand in long lines or not ride at all. We were definitely not going to run into that problem this time around!
I was up by 7:30, showered, and let DH sleep in. I shook him awake and told him I was going down to the lobby to get breakfast. Being the nice wife that I am, I brought him up some cheese danishes, raisin bread, and fruit, along with orange juice.
DH was already in the shower once I arrived, so I decided to eat my breakfast on the balcony, which was so peaceful. DH soon joined me with his breakfast and were out the door at around 8:45.
The plan was to take the monorail over to the Ticket and Transportation center, and then switch the Epcot monorail. I had never taken the Epcot monorail before and was super excited! The resort monorail was surprisingly not that busy, so we had no problem getting a seat. Once we arrived at the TTC and followed the signs to the Epcot monorail, there seemed to one already boarding, so we hopped right on without having to wait.
I really loved the ride to Epcot, it was a pretty long journey compared to the resort loop and it was fun going over all the cars and busses. I was confused when the monorail went through Epcot, but it was so neat seeing Epcot from the monorail perspective.
We hopped off and began walking toward the ticket gates, which were starting to look fairly busy, luckily, we are great at finding the shortest, quickest moving lines and soon we were through the turnstiles.
This must have been the day that every honeymoon couple decided to visit Epcot, because they were everywhere, ears and all! It was fun to wish people congratulations and have them wish it to us as well.
The first order of business was to get a FP for Test Track, since we missed it last time! For some reason, I always get lost in the Future World section of Epcot, I just cant seem to navigate it like I do the other parks. DH said Test Track was one way, I said it was another, we ended up going my way and not finding it, turns out DH was right, I guess sometimes he knows what he is talking about.
We grabbed our FPs for later in the afternoon, and saw the wait was only 20 minutes, so we decided that it was good enough for us to wait in. About 2 minutes into the line, the ride broke and it didnt look like it was going to be back on. But we waited a bit longer to see if luck would change.
No pictures yet please.
This is how look when Test Track breaks!
Feeling annoyed, we decided to hop out of line and go make better use of our day. It was sweltering outside so we headed toward the Universe of Energy, which is always a good, long cool down ride! The doors were already open when we arrived and the beginning Jeopardy movie was already playing, not that it mattered since we have both seen it a bunch of times.
Since this ride is pretty long, by the time it was over, it was time to get another FP, so we headed over to the Land and got ourselves our Soarin Fastpasses, from here, we walked over to the Seas with Nemo and Friends.
There was absolutely no wait, which is always a plus! This ride is cute, but I would never wait for it. After, we walked around the pavilion for a bit and then saw that there was a group waiting for Turtle Talk with Crush, we loved this show last time and decided to wait for it to start.
There was still about 15 minutes before the next show, so we played with some of the interactive quizzes in the area, and then took a seat on the floor as we waited.
DH looks like a deer in headlights
Laughing after the last picture...
Getting slap happy...thank goodness, the doors finally opened and we were corralled into the little theater room.
I LOVE this show, I dont care if it is for little kids! It is hilarious! Crush had kids and adults cracking up the entire time. Whether you have kids or not, this is a must see show! It is so cute!!!
Continuing our productive day, we headed over the Imagination pavilion to go watch Figment and get that song stuck in our heads for the rest of the day.
Again there was no wait, and we walked right on!
Figment is actually one of the earliest memories of Disney that I have. I was four years old when I first visited Disney and remember that man with a beard and top hat walking around with Figment...I wish they still had him!!
After the ride, we walked around the pavilion looking for one of those Kodak photo booths where you can change your face into a clown or animal, but they were all taken and people were taking too long for our liking! We decided to try back later.
Our stomachs began to rumble and grumble, so we headed to our favorite lunch spot, Sunshine Seasons in the Land to cool down and fill our bellies.
I got one of my favorite Disney sandwiches, turkey with cheese and a spicy little sauce. DH ended up getting sweet and sour chicken. But lets face it, we really eat here for their desserts! I had the to die for chocolate cake and DH had the butterfinger brownie, both of which were delicious! We were lucky enough to find a table easily, which is usually not the case in this place!
We some time to kill before our Soarin FP, so we got in line to ride Living with the Land, which had about a 15 minute wait. I have no pictures from this ride because I think DH and I were getting so very annoyed with the family we shared the boat with. Throughout the entire thing, they wouldnt stop talking, LOUDLY, and making fun of things. I couldnt hear any part of the ride, it was horrible, but we both decided to bite our tongues and not say anything. I think the family thought the ride was too educational or something, so they did a great job at dumbing it down to their level.
Despite our bad experience, I still enjoy going through the greenhouse and always think of my dad when Im on this ride because he just built his own greenhouse and would love to have one like Disneys!
Low and behold, just like clockwork, it was now time for our Soarin FP to be used! We still ended up having to wait about 20 minutes before we were on the ride, but that is nothing new with this attraction. It is worth every minute of the wait!
We ended being in the middle row, so we still had to deal with the feet issue, but I was hoping sometime on this trip we could actually sit front row. As always, when the ride was over, we clapped, as did everyone else, there is just nothing else like this ride!!
I couldnt believe how much we had already accomplished and it was only about lunchtime, we decided to take it easy and go do our Disney Visa character meet n greet in one of the Innovations pavilions. Afterall, at least it would be air conditioned and out of the sun! There was a bit of a line, but not too bad when we arrived. We noticed there was a Just Engaged couple in line, which I thought was cute, but I wished that they had had those buttons when we got engaged in 2007they had to use a sharpie marker and cross out Just Married to write Just Engaged when we got engaged.
I was so excited to see who was behind the curtainwe have done this the last 2 times we came to WDW and the first time, we had Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto! In 2007, we had Mickey and Pluto and this year, we had...
Our favorite mouse and dog again!
Of course, they were thrilled that we were on our Honeymoon!
We came out from behind the curtain and we were smiling like idiots, as only WDW can do for you.
As we were walking out of Innovations to head to our next destination, we saw a fire truck, and just had to take a picture of it.
Our next stop was Spaceship Earth, and we were excited to see the changes!
