We are having another snow day here! Aaaagh!
1sm056pullhair.gif

They cancelled school yesterday due to the threat of snow, and we got none. Nice. I blame it on the TV weatherpeople. They are fear-mongers, and everybody is a little gun-shy after the two whopper snowstorms we got recently. One guy predicted yesterday would be "catastrophic". Um, not so much. Today is miserable. Only a couple of inches so far, but the wind is howling. So at least it makes sense to cancel today.

At the rate we're going my kids will have to take finals when they get back from Disney. Seriously.

Ugh that's what happened to us last year, we didn't get out until 6/26 due to all the snow days! It was like they got out and BAM it was the 4th of July.

Not much of a summer.

This is the snow I woke up to...

It's right about a foot and it's still snowing!

I remember when I was growing up in PA, we had a few times where they canceled school because of the threat of a storm...and then we didn't get any snow. That was awesome. Problem is, they won't do it next storm and then you'll get a foot and everyone will complain to the school board that they didn't take the proper precautions...ahhh, those were the days :rotfl:

Sorry for the snow day, but I love the smiley!! :lmao:

Here snow has disappeared over the last days!! Yesterday I checked the weather in Orlando and realized that the high temp there was 13°C (55°F) and we had 11°C (52°F) in Berlin. :scared1:

Ah bummer! Another unwarranted snow day! And you are right- I think it is the fear monger news channels. Always trying to make a story. :sad2:

I can't believe how hard the east is getting hit this year!
Now I won't complain so much about the gray drizzling sky we have here.

I've never heard of a snow day because of the "threat" of snow! That's just crazy.

Wow, never seen them cancel before snow. When I lived up north they would cancel in the morning. You had to listen or watch a certain station on TV. Of course when I was a kid I loved snow days but when I had a child then didn't like them so much.

They waited until yesterday morning to cancel, but there was only a dusting of snow at the time and the roads were only wet. I think they should have held school as usual, and had an early dismissal if it started snowing as predicted. The snow stopped and didn't start back up until last night.

Yikes. Looks like that's what we're in for ('cept with a June vacation thrown in ). It has been a strange winter for this part of the state. It's usually much more moderate. Now, in the northwest corner of PA, where I grew up, it's more like Buffalo/Cleveland types of winters.

Yowsah! Yeah, that's a lot of snow to wake up to. (I hate to say it, but I'm glad somebody else gets to take pictures of snow on their deck.)

The kids are torn between rejoicing for a snow day and wondering about what the end of the school year will be like.

Sorry for the snow day, but I love the smiley!! :lmao:

I went looking for a smiley like that specifically! I tried "frustrated smiley" and "exasperated smiley" but didn't find it until I tried "hair pulling smiley".

Quite a bit of the snow from our big storms had melted, but we still had a lot.

Yes, people like yourself who have been to WDW recently have reported that it's been pretty cold. I'd rather be hot than cold.

Ah bummer! Another unwarranted snow day! And you are right- I think it is the fear monger news channels. Always trying to make a story. :sad2:

Yep. I wish the school administration wouldn't have gotten sucked into the hype.

It's been a strange winter.

I know! Where I grew up there had to be a lot of snow on the ground before it got cancelled.

(I borrowed this chapter title from The Little Rascals. I can just hear them all saying it in unison.)

Quick life update....Judy got the job! :cool1: She accepted it today.

She's now a full-time high school math teacher. It'll increase the hecticity (my own word and sure to catch on, I'm sure) on the home-front, but it'll be good. She's been loving subbing for this particular position for the last 3 weeks, talking about her "kids" (the students) when she's been home. She's stressed, but enjoying it.

Edited to add: I almost forgot. When she interviewed, at the end, she said "Oh, I have one thing I need to tell you". And the HR person (whom Judy had never met) said, "I think I know what it is." And Judy told them that she couldn't work past June 11 due to a paid vacation that cannot be moved. The HR person said, "I knew that. I overheard you mentioning to someone else that you were hoping for no snow days due to a vacation you had. That speaks to your character that you're telling us now." And they said that it won't be a problem. :thumbsup2
:cool1: Awesome News Glenn! Congrats to Judy! Just goes to prove that honesty is the best policy.

no snow your way either? We haven't seen a FLAKE this year!

Exactly what happened to us last year. I've spent most of my life year and it was the most snow I'd ever ever seen. In a city that does not do well with snow!

I hope you melt over the weekends and the kids get back to school. A ton of folks missed the last week of school last year due to previously scheduled vacations.

And then the first week as they decided to start before labor day. Which we hadn't done in TEN years!

Suffice to say I just won't plan anything until July ever so I don't have to think about it.

Not my dream vacation month but...oh well!

Not on Fridays cuz Fridays give the Staff a LONG Weekend !!!
Also our school district had a Teachers Compensation Day off this month, which of course was after Presidents day off !!! Get the picture !!! I suggested to my staff that they LOBBY their union for all of us to have a compensation day:rotfl2: They liked my idea !!!:lmao:
School was closed today !! Andwhile it was bad they have gone in far worse but that wasn't a Friday!!!:rotfl2:

You guys will like this this. Judy just called me in to hear what the weather guy just said on the local Fox station. He said, "there are some stations in town that need to be a little more responsible...not so alarmist. I won't say their name." I'm sure he was referring to another station who I saw use the word "catastrophic" in their forecast on Wednesday night. I was like Right On! :thumbsup2

hey dude im back
:goodvibes

Glad you're back. I saw on your thread that you got to do a little presenting at your conference. How'd it go?

:cool1: Awesome News Glenn! Congrats to Judy! Just goes to prove that honesty is the best policy.

Thanks GB! It figures that we've had no school the last two days that she would've gotten paid by the day.

We were not happy a year+ ago when PChef announced the Disney trip and the dates. June 14? Hello....people might still have school.

You sound very cynical about their motives Rosie!

Oh, I feel for you guys. We've had a worse winter than usual, but not like you guys! Some of the completely rural districts out here, though, missed almost two weeks due to blowing and drifting snow. :scared1: And we didn't get near what you did - I'd hate to think of what they'd have done if we had! I told my principal that, not matter what, I WILL be in Disney on June 13! We're nowhere near it yet, thankfully. I'd like to kep it that way. I do hate those "We're not having school because we THINK it MIGHT snow today" days. We had two of those this year, too.

Hope it gets better!!

Thanks Jen. Way to stand up for your vacation plans!

:rotfl2: sounds like you've got a little passive agressive weather man there.:rotfl2:

Been out of the loop for a day or so; how'd your weather end up??

Was is "catastrophic"?? :lmao:

If the accusatory weatherman is referring to the one I think he is, he's given himself the nickname "Hurricane"...inserted between his first and last names.

No. Nothing on Thursday, but we did get about 6 inches of snow yesterday. It was kind of warm so as soon as I got the majority of the snow off of the driveway, it melted the remaining snow and was pretty clear. The roads were the same way. I made a run to the grocery store late on Thursday night when the storm was starting and it was a lot worse then that at the end of the storm. It's snowing a little today too, I didn't expect that. I have no idea if the weather guys forecasted it or not....I haven't been paying too much attention to them lately.
