the morning you leave??

I always clean the night before we leave so I come home to a clean house. :thumbsup2

Why are you nervous about the Poptarts? :confused3 We usually eat at the airport after we check in.

im trying to think of somehting they can eat when they get up that wont make a mess, but its hard. there arent many things that dont need to be cooked. they wont make it to the airport before eating. they are used to eating as soon as they wake up and they are used to scrambled eggs and pancakes every morning. i just dont want to throw them off totally.

We are driving and leaving on the 27th. The 26th, our 11th anniversary, I will be power cleaning the house and doing any last minute laundry. Also changing sheets on 4 beds and doing that laundry. My hubby will be doing all the yard work and cleaning the pool. I hope to have most of the packing done up to that point and just having to do the last minute stuff, because I want to have everything by the back door and ready to load first thing in the morning. Out by 6am or sooner!! The cleaning lady is me, so she will be on vacation for a week!!!

I have my note cards of everything that needs to be done! What to pack for everyone from top to bottom and everything in between! We are staying in a condo and driving so I am pretty much taking everything but the kitchen sink!

I plan to have a cooler packed with fruits and bagels, juice and chocolate milk and a carafe of coffee for on the road!!

What about the frozen Aunt Jemima (sp?) breakfast? I know one comes with pancakes and sausage or the frozen pancake sandwiches with sausage and egg. All you have to do is pop in microwave and eat out of box. No mixing bowls, spoons, gridles, or spatulas to wash!

The night before our trips, I don't cook dinner, which cuts down on the cleaning. We use that night as a "pizza night". Pizza delivery, served on paper plates, with juice boxes or canned soda. Not the most healthy dinner, mind you, but it works for little clean up...and starts our vacation out on a "fun' note!

And, the best part is, once the kitchen is shut down for the day, no new messes!

When we do fly, we eat breakfast at the airport. We usually drive, so I pack the night before. Bananas, along with peanut butter sandwiches...easy and filling.

I just had to share this - on ds' first trip to DS he was 4 - I, also, like to have a very clean house to come home to - I had cleaned everything up spotless the night before - the day we came home, we walked in the door and ds said "wow, mousekeeping cleaned our house!":rotfl:

As far as breakfast goes - we picked up biscuits from Bojangle's and ate at the airport. Have fun!

wow. I'm glad I'm not alone in this! I too clean the house, take out the trash, etc. It's nice to come home to a clean house!

Last time we went we stayed at a hotel in Indy using their park and fly. We drove down and ate in Indy. Went back the hotel, got up at 5am, parked our car there for free and used their shuttle to the airport. We ate breakfast at the airport.
We're doing that again this year!

With a little under two months to go, I have already been trying to keep things straight and tidy so I don't have to go cleaning like a maniac the few days before we leave.

If they've never had pop-tarts before they may not like them. I second McDonalds. It's not a favorite of mine, but they're still doing the 2 egg/cheese/bacon biscuits for 3 bucks. My son thinks they're absolutely fantastic. McDonalds is actually serving decent coffee now so I can occasionally get him those darn biscuits.

We have a house/dog sitter coming to stay when we are gone - so we will be cleaning the whole weekend before we leave. The last thing I'll do is strip our bed and put out fresh sheets.

We have a weekly maid service, so between the time the maid comes and we leave, nobody is allowed to eat in the house. I've got more important things to do than dishes and cleaning up messes before we leave. :lmao: This trip, though, we leave on Friday early and the service comes on Thursday, so it won't be a big deal. We usually take a very early flight out, so we have everything ready to go so that we're only up about 20 minutes before we pull out of our house and head to the airport. We eat breakfast at the airport after going through security. Usually McDonald's. My son thinks McDonald's breakfast is some sort of special airport culinary treat. Pretty sure it's the highlight of his trip. :rotfl:

ive never seen them. ill take a look naxt time im at the store, thanks!

Dh and I will clean the house the day before we leave. We won't want to stay up very late that night so, we'll get everything done by dinner and check our packing that evening. We'll eat out for dinner.

We'll have to leave the house at 8am the next morning. I'll make scrambled eggs in the microwave and toast. Paper plates, plastic cups and utensils.

We'll be on the plane before the kids want anything else to eat. They'll have snacks in thei backpacks.

I'm a family of one with a house and yard that are waaaaayy too big for me! *LOL*

Since I work until whenever (as in fairly late) the night before departing for WDW (usually on Thursday or Friday), I clean the house the previous weekend, and do as much in the yard as possible, depending on the weather. Then I can do laundry two nights before leaving (including linens), then launder what I wear to work the last day and wear it the next day for traveling.

The shuttle picks me up between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. for my flight--sometimes earlier. Depends on the flight schedule. Earliest has been 3:30 a.m. Not a big breakfast person, so I usually have a piece of multigrain toast (leave one slice out, the rest is in the freezer) and one of the individual serving fruit cups. This is one of the times that I will use disposable stuff--tumbler, plate and flatware, then take the trash out just before the shuttle arrives.

Quick trip around the house and yard to make sure things are locked, turned off or on, emergency numbers are posted by the phone (family members check on the house if I'm gone more than three or four days--and for WDW it's usally 11 or 12 days).

I take a couple of things to eat during the flight (almonds, crackers and--if I managed to bake the previous weekend--a chocolate chip cookie). Flight time is about 5 hours and I learned the hard way to take food with me! :)

Departure day is a lot of work--even for one person! I don't envy those who have to get spouses and children out and about, as well. But the memories you make on each WDW visit are wonderful! :)

I am so glad all you girls clean and wash your sheets too!!! Do you know how many people think I am crazy? I have to admit--with my 1st baby, my water broke in the middle of the night and I DID get up and put those sheets in the washer!! Just a thing I do!!
I actually have it all done before we leave and change sheets the night before-I probably don't sleep but 2 hours, so they aren't technically slept in!!! Because...I will be too tired when I get home to put the fresh ones on there!!
My kids slept on a sleeping bag last time because they didn't want to wait around and make their beds the next day..with their little outfits laid out and their backpacks ready.
Do we all sound a little weird?

As for breakfast, we go through Chick-fil-A and get chickin' minis. They are great and everybody loves 'em. I will NOT have dishes in my immaculately cleaned kitchen! Isn't it nice to clean house, finish laundry, take out trash-all knowing you are headed to The World:lovestruc ?

We haven't had our disney trip yet. But I always clean the house before we go on vacation. I figure I'll have enough to do when we get back with unpacking and laundry plus we will all be tired. So I can totally understand not wanting to deal with dirty dishes just before you leave. If they have never had pop tarts before I would either try them ahead of time to see if they even like them or go with a food you already know they like. My oldest DD likes poptarts but not the crust so trying to get the crust off in the car would make a mess, my youngest (3y) won't eat them at all.

In the summer my kids frequently eat breakfast in the car because I let them sleep in and then they don't have time to eat at home before we have to get to swim lessons or whatever. Some of our breakfast car foods are bananas, bowl of grapes, string cheese, raisins, pretzel sticks, and nutrigrain cereal bars.

We will have to leave in the middle of the night to get to the airport on time for our upcoming disney trip. So I will definitly pack some food/snacks for the kids for when they wake up. I'm not really opposed to stopping for fast food but I want to have something available incase one wakes up before the other or incase we don't happen to be close to fast food at the time.

im wondering what everyones routine is?

i want to come home to a clean house and dont want to do dishes that morning. so im thinking of staying up that night and cleaning the house spotless. then having poptarts in the house to eat in the car on the way to the airport. though only thing is, my kids have never eaten poptarts, so im nervous of how that will go over.

so how about you?

We hit McDonald's the morning of....I always leave the house clean. I figure I'll have plenty of laundry to do when I get back.

I am leaving hubby behind on this trip so I can guarantee you that my house will be a mess when we get back!:rotfl:

I'm with you here. I hate coming home to a messy/dirty house and dishes in the sink. I will already have about 5 loads of laundry to do when we get home and unpack. Who wants to clean too?

We usually make sure the house is clean the night before and drive through McDonalds on the way out of town. No dishes, no mess for us.

After our past few Disney World adventures, my wife and I have taken all of our vacation laundry out to be cleaned. Is it expensive? Yes...but when viewed as part of the trip expense, its not so bad. Why make our homecoming less magical than the trip? Just something to consider. Enjoy your trip!!!

:wizard: Me princess: Wife :yay: Boy

Yup, house gets cleaned before we leave. We're usually leaving the house so early because we catch the first flight (we usually leave around 4:45 a.m.), that my kids don't want to eat that early.

There is a McDonald's in the airport terminal. We can usually get the kids plain bagels there.

If that wasn't an option, I'd probably purchase bagels the day before and keep them in plastic. Butter them the morning of, wash the knife and bring them in the car on the way to the airport. No mess!

This year our departure day is one large choreographed dance!! I'm not kidding, it's going to be a weeklong event for us.
Monday: kids to school, I start doing the vacation clothing laundry (wash anything we plan on wearing)
Tuesday: kids to school and I have to drive 2.5 hours to chicago to see my specialist (I have RA) for bloodwork and perhaps a steroid shot to help me not have as much pain while on vacation. Depending on how late I am getting home, maybe start packing one child's suitcase.
Wednesday: kids to school, early appointment for 4yr old to see his surgeon for follow up visit due to ear tubes being placed. Start cleaning the house. Due to my RA I can only clean one room at a time otherwise I can't move the next day if I over do it. :headache:
Thursday: kids at school, finish packing kids suitcases, start on our suitcases, clean house
Friday: This is the sweetest day: I am going to the local spa for a mani and chair massage (SWEET!!!) but then I go home after picking up kids from school to finish cleaning up.
Now this is where we are getting complicated. See our kids do not know that we are going to Disney in Sept. They think we aren't going until after Thanksgiving. So we are telling the kids that since Daddy has to work that night (DH works overnights) I am going to take them to Grandma's house for a sleepover just to have a change of pace. Truth is, Grandma is driving us to the airport Sat. morning since our flight is 8am and she lives closer to the airport. While I take them to Grandma's, DH is going to stay home, finish cleaning up, packing up the car with the packed and stashed suitcases.
Later that night (around 2am.) he's going to drive out to my mom's house and meet us there.
Then we will wake up the kids, dress them, throw them in Grandma's van and drive to the airport so that we are there at least 2 hours before the flight departs. It always takes me longer to get through security, I have fake hips which set off the alarms (always fun to see Mommy getting frisked at security! :headache: )
Then I plan on bringing snacks for the kids to munch on, trail mix, raisins, dried banana chips, M&Ms and then buy drinks after we get through security.
OH and DH has been told that he is to wake me up at Grandma's house with a veeryyyyy LARGE ice vanilla coffee from mcDonald's...otherwise it may not be a pretty scene.. :scared:

Phew...I'm tired just writing all of that.
Only 64 days to go!

What about those Lean Pockets breakfast pockets on paper plates or paper towels? They still get some scrambled egg type food, and all you have to do is toss the trash. I'm pretty sure if I gave my DD a Poptart or doughnut for breakfast, the entire day would be one big meltdown. She needs a relatively balanced breakfast to not be a complete demon all day. I don't care what the experts say about sugar and kids. I've seen it happen. I know if all I have for breakfast is a doughnut, I feel miserable by 10:00!
