My oldest DD has had a large mole on her arm since she was a baby. She's been having issues with it, nothing health related. She's been embarassed about it and wore a headband around it last school year. I got her in to a dermatologist today and they removed it today!! The doc could have shaved it off, but it might have come back. So, we opted for the full removal. My DH stayed home from work today, so I only had the oldest and the youngest with me. So, when she said we can remove it now, I said go for it (cause if we rescheduled, I'd have 5 kids with me). DD did beautifully!! She said the numbing shot felt like fire ants. She saw some of the cutting, but the doc told her to look the other way so it wouldn't bother her. She felt the blood drip down her arm and I don't think she liked that too much. She ended up with 3 stitches, not too bad. She never let her nerves show and stayed calm the whole time. After we left, she said her legs were a little shaky. But, I think she did great. I'm very proud of her!!

She is a little upset, though. Her birthday is Sunday and she was supposed to go to Schilterbahn on Friday, but with the stitches, she has to wait until the 16th. I promised her that we'll go, even if the extended family can't, we'll make sure we get there this summer. Maybe she can have a friend spend the night this weekend.

I'm a little sad. I always loved her mole. But, I'm glad she's happy.

I'm glad to hear it all went well. I remember you posting about how much it bothered your DD. I'm sure she's happy to have the removal over and done with. Hope she continues to have a smooth recovery!

Kerrie, glad it went so well.

:goodvibesGlad to hear all is well!

Great news. Glad she came through like a real trooper! I know I'd be scared.

I think it sounds like she did great.
My Mom had the few moles I had taken off when I was in High School and I am already eyeing a couple of spots on my DD's.
My DH and I both have had small basal cell spots removed that was not fun (4 plastic surgeries later for a very small spot on my nose) and we do not want to put the girls at risk.

I think you were wise to skip the shaving part. Our dermatologist tried to shave one off DD's back, which looked really ugly afterward, so we ended up having a plastic surgeon redo it. Glad it went well.

Yay for your DD! I just had a mole removed 2 weeks ago that also required 3 stitches. Make sure your DD has Tylenol or Advil tonight. I actually had quite a bit of pain after the numbness wore off. :goodvibes

Thats all it was????

from the thread title, it sounded like you had a deep cover operative in your family, giving away secrets!!!

I had one frozen off or some kind of something in the office and am so glad I did, now I wan't every mole big and small gone but don't feel like taking the time to go to the doctors for really minor things.

Thanks for all the good thoughts! I read them all to her and she seemed happy to hear it all. PK'smom, she really liked you calling her a trooper, but I think she's thinking Clone Trooper. :rotfl: And, Grumpy Pirate, I had to explain your post. She made a face. :rotfl:

Congrats to DD!

Glad to hear it went so well. Definitely have some Motrin or something for the pain just in case. I've had several removed over time and sometimes they hurt and sometimes they're fine, it really depends on the area.

She's starting to get a little pain and its bleeding again. Thankfully, she has new puppies to keep her from focusing on it. ;)

Last summer my mother saw a funny colored mole on my daughther's leg and my mother told her that she may need to go and get it "checked" out. Amanda brushed it off.

Well, in the spring Glamour maz. they had pictures of moles on what to look for in skin cancer. She saw a mole that looked very much like hers so she asked me to make an appointment for her. (she's hearing impaired so I make the calls for her) Her appointment was in the first week in May. When she went in they did cut out some of the mole out to test. I didn't go with her to this appointment (she's 22 and married and felt that mama wasn't needed).

We (mama was needed then) went back on 5/20 and that's when they told us it was Melanoma cancer and she had an appointment at UNC Cancer Center the next day at 10:30 am! So we went in and sure enough they wanted to do surgery ASAP.

My daughter had surgery on 6/16 and they removed the mole (she had this mole since she was small) along with two lymphs and then they did a skin graph to replace the large area. We returned on 6/23 to get a good report that all the cancer is removed and they feel that she will not need any treatments. She returned (7/1) to remove all stitches and it's healing very good. She's still limited on what she can do and has to continue with weekly visits, then bi-weekly, then monthly.

She will always have her moles checked just in case it may pop up in another area.

The doctor told us if we had waited another six months it would have been really bad news...we are so blessed to catch it when we did!

She now knows never put anything that looks questionable off again, it can save your life!

This is the first time in 25 years I haven't been to the tanning bed. I now look back at it and think it's not worth it at all! Those self tanners works great and they are cheaper.

good for her!

my bff got a blue mole removed from her face a few years ago, and she is still sooooooooooooooooooooooooo pumped it's gone. i forget that she even had it anymore, except for when i'm looking at her intently and see the little scar on her face. :3dglasses

NC State, I'm so glad your daughter is doing well now. Thank God she didn't wait!! I'm glad you got a happy ending.

My DD's doc said it would have to be removed eventually due to its size, so why not do it now before it becomes a problem since she wants it gone. My DS is covered in moles, so I asked what I needed to be aware of, and you can bet I'm gonna keep an eye on them. But, it shouldn't be an issue until his 20s, but if they change a lot, grow, itch, or bleed, take him in.

I think you made the right choice to remove it now and I'm sure when she gets older she will agree.
