Day 5 - Part 4
After a long bus trip from Wilderness Lodge to Animal Kingdom Lodge by way of Downtown Disney, we finally arrived at Kidani. Check-in was a breeze and we were soon on our way to our room, which was
We were in the first bead to the right of the lobby, in a savanna-view room, overlooking the Sunset savanna. As we exited the elevator, it was the second suite on the left. Pretty much directly over Community Hall, just a few floors above.
I was able to get a picture of our suite, pre-clutter.
The kids immediately went to the balcony to check out the animals.
Heres an example of our window and view. Jambo House was directly across from us.
And out on the savanna, naturally, there were some animals. First, a giraffe.
Ankole Cattle.
A Zebra moseying up the road.
An eland. (I had to look this one up. I can never remember what it is.)
Somewhere amongst taking animal pictures, bell services delivered our luggage that was transported from Coronado Springs and the groceries we had ordered. The bell services guy told us about a really good pizza delivery place and after he left the kids thought that was really nice of him, but all I could think was that I suspected he was on the payroll somehow. Am I too cynical?
We got some laundry going. Its so nice to have washer and dryer in the suite!
We flipped on the TV in the master bedroom, and
.nothing. Hmmm, the TV in the living room worked just fine. I called Maintenance and a guy showed up in just a couple of minutes. We moved the dresser/TV cabinet away from the wall. (It was a pretty heavy piece of furniture, and he wasnt real crazy about having me help. I suppose he didnt want me to get a hernia or something.) Once we could see behind it, we discovered that someone had unplugged the TV. Now why, if a previous guest needed an extra outlet and unplugged the TV, why (I ask again), in the world, wouldnt they plug it back in again when they left? Sheesh!
All right, back to the balcony. Now we had some Ankole Cattle playing in the sand.
I thought that last picture needed some thought bubbles. If youve got a better idea for what they may be thinking, lets hear it!
An ostrich off in the distance.
Then I decided to go fill one of the kids mugs with pop for, ah, them. Yeah, thats right. And I took some pictures of African art along the way. I love all of the museum-quality art in Kidani. I cant believe that most of it is right there, unprotected by Plexiglas or anything. I really hope that it never gets vandalized or accidentally broken by curious hands.
This is a gong, although not what I picture when I think of the word.
Some drums.
A head crest.
Fertility figures.
Whats an art collection without a piece titled Mother and Child?
When I got back to the room I was greeted with shouts of, The giraffes are right here! The giraffes are right here!
And an ostrich. I dont know
their feathers just look dirty to me. They look like a dirty bird.
By this time, Judy was napping in the master bedroom, James had headed down to his favorite place, Community Hall, but the rest of us were starting to get hungry. When Id made our grocery order I had planned on ravioli and salads for dinner on this night, so I started boiling some water. I kept working on dinner (fortunately it was a pretty easy meal), thinking that Judy would wake up any time. Apparently she really was exhausted, so we let her sleep. Marlene got James from Community Hall, and when he arrived back at the suite he reported that he was the foosball champ!
After dinner James went back to Community Hall, but the girls and I changed into our swimsuits to hit the pool. We stopped in Community Hall to make sure that James didnt want to go to the pool with us, but he was having too much fun there to leave. He loves that place! We watched him playing foosball against a teenage boy and James was beating him. It was pretty funny to watch the incredulous look on that poor kids face each time that James blasted a shot into his goal.
We continued on to the pool, and the water was the perfect temperature. Sooo relaxing. I walked around a little bit and went through the water play area and noticed that two of the water guns were broken. Its a shame that people have to treat them roughly.
At about 9:45 I told the girls that we had to go. They tried begging for more time, but it didnt work. When we got to Community Hall, James was the last kid in there. I didnt realize that they closed at 10 pm. Ooops. Thank goodness I didnt let the girls talk me into staying at the pool longer. Anyway, James was playing Connect 4 with a lifeguard who asked me, Did you teach him how to play foosball? Hes beaten me, like 10 games in a row!
We got back to the suite and Judy was up and had done some dishes. After getting the sofa-bed and chair-bed made up, watched some My 3 Sons and called it a night.
