The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

The Austrian Bistro looks like a very special place! I will be looking forward to a report from there. The dishes on the website sound very authentic and I love their pronounciation help! :thumbsup2

Day 5 - Part 4

After a long bus trip from Wilderness Lodge to Animal Kingdom Lodge by way of Downtown Disney, we finally arrived at Kidani. Check-in was a breeze and we were soon on our way to our room, which was…

We were in the first “bead” to the right of the lobby, in a savanna-view room, overlooking the Sunset savanna. As we exited the elevator, it was the second suite on the left. Pretty much directly over Community Hall, just a few floors above.

I was able to get a picture of our suite, pre-clutter.

IMG_3265.jpg

The kids immediately went to the balcony to check out the animals.

IMG_3266.jpg

Here’s an example of our window and view. Jambo House was directly across from us.

IMG_3268.jpg

And out on the savanna, naturally, there were some animals. First, a giraffe.

IMG_3269.jpg

Ankole Cattle.

IMG_3270.jpg

A Zebra moseying up the road.

IMG_3271.jpg

An eland. (I had to look this one up. I can never remember what it is.)

Somewhere amongst taking animal pictures, bell services delivered our luggage that was transported from Coronado Springs and the groceries we had ordered. The bell services guy told us about a “really good pizza delivery place” and after he left the kids thought that was really nice of him, but all I could think was that I suspected he was on the payroll somehow. Am I too cynical?

We got some laundry going. It’s so nice to have washer and dryer in the suite!

We flipped on the TV in the master bedroom, and….nothing. Hmmm, the TV in the living room worked just fine. I called Maintenance and a guy showed up in just a couple of minutes. We moved the dresser/TV cabinet away from the wall. (It was a pretty heavy piece of furniture, and he wasn’t real crazy about having me help. I suppose he didn’t want me to get a hernia or something.) Once we could see behind it, we discovered that someone had unplugged the TV. Now why, if a previous guest needed an extra outlet and unplugged the TV, why (I ask again), in the world, wouldn’t they plug it back in again when they left? Sheesh!

All right, back to the balcony. Now we had some Ankole Cattle playing in the sand.

I thought that last picture needed some thought bubbles. If you’ve got a better idea for what they may be thinking, let’s hear it!

An ostrich off in the distance.

IMG_3280.jpg

Then I decided to go fill one of the kids’ mugs with pop for, ah, them. Yeah, that’s right. And I took some pictures of African art along the way. I love all of the museum-quality art in Kidani. I can’t believe that most of it is “right there”, unprotected by Plexiglas or anything. I really hope that it never gets vandalized or accidentally broken by curious hands.

This is a gong, although not what I picture when I think of the word.

IMG_3287.jpg

Some drums.

IMG_3288.jpg

A head crest.

IMG_3289.jpg

Fertility figures.

IMG_3290.jpg

What’s an art collection without a piece titled “Mother and Child”?

IMG_3291.jpg

When I got back to the room I was greeted with shouts of, “The giraffes are right here! The giraffes are right here!”

And an ostrich. I don’t know…their feathers just look dirty to me. They look like a dirty bird.

By this time, Judy was napping in the master bedroom, James had headed down to his favorite place, Community Hall, but the rest of us were starting to get hungry. When I’d made our grocery order I had planned on ravioli and salads for dinner on this night, so I started boiling some water. I kept working on dinner (fortunately it was a pretty easy meal), thinking that Judy would wake up any time. Apparently she really was exhausted, so we let her sleep. Marlene got James from Community Hall, and when he arrived back at the suite he reported that he was the foosball champ!

After dinner James went back to Community Hall, but the girls and I changed into our swimsuits to hit the pool. We stopped in Community Hall to make sure that James didn’t want to go to the pool with us, but he was having too much fun there to leave. He loves that place! We watched him playing foosball against a teenage boy and James was beating him. It was pretty funny to watch the incredulous look on that poor kid’s face each time that James blasted a shot into his goal.

We continued on to the pool, and the water was the perfect temperature. Sooo relaxing. I walked around a little bit and went through the water play area and noticed that two of the water guns were broken. It’s a shame that people have to treat them roughly.

At about 9:45 I told the girls that we had to go. They tried begging for more time, but it didn’t work. When we got to Community Hall, James was the last kid in there. I didn’t realize that they closed at 10 pm. Ooops. Thank goodness I didn’t let the girls talk me into staying at the pool longer. Anyway, James was playing Connect 4 with a lifeguard who asked me, “Did you teach him how to play foosball? He’s beaten me, like 10 games in a row!”

We got back to the suite and Judy was up and had done some dishes. After getting the sofa-bed and chair-bed made up, watched some “My 3 Sons” and called it a night.

I can't wait to try it! I'll report in when I do.

One mother, but no Judys.

Lots of lovely animals! :goodvibes

ETA: Sounds like a lovely relaxing afternoon/evening! I am really looking forward to having DVC, I am sure this very much changes your way of touring because you know that you will be back!

/
Glen I notice Marv hasn't mentioned a certain Canadian gal has her TR started and he and others have been posting like crazy so you are not on Page one !!! Don't tell 'em I told !!!!:lmao::lmao:

AH HA! So the truth comes out! :rotfl: Seriously though, it was very nice of you to invite poor Glen over. I would've done it eventually :rolleyes1 I'm still missing Liesa too!

Wow - talk about animal afterload. You hit pay dirt there! Nice. Very Nice. When I stayed at Kidani I had to go standard view. I'm point poor and all that. And I was actually quite fine with my standard view room until I saw THOSE pictures. Amazing animal interaction.

I agree with you - that artwork is amazing. I wonder if eac piece has little sensor built into it that alarms if someone messes with it. Just a thought. :rolleyes1

Go James....:worship: King of Foosball!

It's great you got some time to chillax around the resort. I love how you always take pictures of the art. The cattle picture with the bubbles was hilarious :rotfl: Those quotes suit it perfectly!

What a gorgeous suite! And you can't get any better than having giraffes right outside your balcony. So cool!! :cool1:

:lmao:

What a nice, relaxing day!

I know the unanswered question on everyone's mind, though: How did James become the reigning king of foosball? Do you guys have a foosball table in your basement, or something? Or is it just natural talent?

Hey, you were right near our room! We were 7509 (so across the hall and down a few). I am now very homesick for Kidani, after reading the new post. That pool is amazing. It sounds like Community Hall could be a lot of fun, and I'm kind of sad we didn't spend a lot of time there; only on our last morning and there was really no one there.

OHHHHH I love Kidani. You had great animals all ready to welcome you.

As for the cattle- I can only think of " You lookin at me?"

I think it looks like the "male" on the left is scratching his behind on the tree. And the "female" on the right is giving him a look as if to say, "Seriously?" And the "male" is like, "What?" :confused3

(I believe they're both males *ahem*, but just humor me here.)

Ostrich(es?) might be dirty looking, but they are delicious!

Is that wrong?

I've eaten emu before and it was very good too. I also ate kangaroo meat. While tasty, I had a bit of a hard time swallowing the bite in my mouth as I pictured the cute roos we had hand fed earlier that day. :rolleyes1

AH HA! So the truth comes out! :rotfl: Seriously though, it was very nice of you to invite poor Glen over. I would've done it eventually :rolleyes1 I'm still missing Liesa too!

Crap! I was on most of the morning, but totally missed it!!! I hope there's a link in your siggie!!

Glenn- the one is totally caught in the act of scratching his rear end- but Carissa beat me to that one. I guess there's a reason we all herd together here- great minds and all that.

Yep, the giraffe was RIGHT there!! I got some cool "right there" shots of the crane thingy that you'll LOVE!

So glad that Judy got some winks! Sounds like she really needed them!! But I gotta tell ya, nothing sux worse than waking up to dirty dishes. I"m just sayin'...

Great update, Glen. What a nice, relaxing and fun day. The pictures above are the ONE AND ONLY reason I want to stay at the AKL. Giraffes are my all time favorite animal.

So glad that Judy got some winks! Sounds like she really needed them!! But I gotta tell ya, nothing sux worse than waking up to dirty dishes. I"m just sayin'...
