The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

Hey Glenn!

Finally got current again. Loved the Idol stories. And your CR photos totally rocked dude! TL looks like a great way to spend a day.

Looking forward to more.

We've done both BB and TL and other than Summit Plummit at BB the girls like TL better. Me I can do either 'cause I only "do" the lazy river. :lmao:

I still think it's a great idea for kids who haven't had an opportunity to snorkel.

I would agree with that :thumbsup2 Selfish me, just thinking about me!

I would worry about the kids who haven't snorkeled though freaking out about the cold, snorkling is a bit weird until you get used to it.

I'm falling behind a bit, again. Oh well! Between planning my upcoming trip (Disney keeps changing the hours and shows), family and work it's getting harder to check in when I want.

Day 4 - Part 2

Then we walked in and set off in search of a really great spot to put our stuff. We walked and walked and walked. A couple of times Judy said, “How’s this?” or “What about here?” But no, I kept going, looking for that perfect spot that might provide a little shade. We finally settled on a spot back near the shark reef. It wasn’t anything like the “really great spot” I had envisioned, but it was going to have to do.

It can be hard to find shade even with all of the trees at TL. We luckily had bought our red umbrella and it helped if we thought we were getting too much sun.

Then we got in line to make our swim across the reef. While receiving our instructions from the lifeguards, we put our masks on and made any necessary adjustments. A few moments later my face started burning and I thought that maybe it was from sunscreen or something. But just before we were to get in the water Marlene said that her face was burning too and we realized that it must have been due to the sanitizer on the masks. There was a waterfall right behind us so we washed off our masks in it and that helped a lot. Then we stepped into the water.

So that's what it was that burned! I didn't feel much of it since I pre-soaked before heading over to the entry point. The kids had to take thier masks off early on due to that burning. I just thought it was a high concentration of saltwater. Now I know!

COLD!!!

Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold.

Yeah. It's everything you can do to settle certain parts of you're anatomy into that water, especially if you are a southern boy like me.

I know that they have to keep it the proper temperature for the type of fish in it, and they should, but now that I’ve done it, it’s just not an attraction I’ll need to repeat.

Awww. I found it to be quite interesting but I took my time to get across. (3 mins).

Okay, so with the shark reef done, we decided to move on to the wave pool. We ambled out into the surf and when we got out about waist-deep I turned around and we were all there except…James. He’d stayed at the ankle-deep water.

James sounds a lot like Kyler when he was younger. He was nervous about everything but once you cajolled him out he has a great time.

The big waves started (I think they run about every 5 minutes or so?) and we, well those of us out there, enjoyed being buffeted by them.

Did they run the 6 ft wave every few minutes or continuous 4 ft?

I rode a couple of waves in, but wasn’t able to really catch one.

Yeah, I tried the same thing. In the deeper water they are meant for boogie boards or surfers. I was lucky when we first arrived and caught a few as they broke before it got too crowded around the 5 ft deep area.

I checked it, and yep…empty. Oh, no! I’d had my room key in it, the Typhoon Lagoon 1-day pass, and the photopass card.

We had kept most of our stuff around the lounges. Checking around the boards we had read no reports of missing stuff, not that I would leave a wallet or actual keys laying around that is.

and the photopass card…well, remember that day at DHS when the Streetmosphere lady asked why I was taking a picture of that card? And when she learned why, she said that I was smart and handsome? Well, she was right. (But then, you already knew that.)

I still think she had an ulterior motive. What that could be I have no idea. :lmao:

Let’s just say that for me, this particular slide will forever be called, “Humunga Wedgiebunga”.

That's why I like to wear thick and long trunks when I go to waterparks. They dry slow but keep the rear powerwashing down to a minimum.

And, where we’ll have lunch later on.

IMG_3054.jpg

We had lunch there as well.

They were good waterslides, but you’d think at a Disney park they’d come up with a system to get the inner tubes up to the top without making the park guests carry them up.

Our Hurricane Falls in Dallas has ramps to take the tubes back up. TL is an aging park so maybe that would be an obvious rehab in the future.

To get there we had to walk back to the front of the park, pass the towel/locker rental shack, turn left and walk past some lockers and rest rooms and there it was.

There is also a path that starts near the Typhoon Tilly's and follows the lazy river to the same spot.

Oh, I should talk about the theming, because it was top-notch. First, on the way to the stairs, we passed this sign.

IMG_3060.jpg

I'll have to check all that out next time. Looks really cool!

By this point it was after 1 o’clock and we were getting quite hungry, so we started heading back toward Typhoon Tilly’s for lunch. On the way, we saw a photopass photographer at the wave pool so we decided to get in line for a photo. I like it!

Photo0645.jpg

Now that is a great shot! Those waves hit with some force behind them, right?

The food was okay. I think we were starving and just pretty much inhaled it. If I remember correctly, the drinks were pretty large, which was a good thing since we hadn’t really drank very much throughout the morning since we’d been hitting all of the slides.

Pretty much our opinion. Everything tastes good when your body has worked off hundreds of calories swimming.

Just as we got in line for Gangplank Falls, lightning was sighted and all of the rides were stopped.

I thought it was pretty cloudy from looking at your pictures. Still, you seemed to have covered most of the park today!

Before we left, I stopped at Guest Services to ask if any cards had been turned in. None had been, so I was very glad I had a backup snapshot of my photopass card.

Probably near a drain at the bottom of a slide no doubt.

Up next: PChef takes over Disney Hollywood Studios

Looking forward to this! I've been in a few parks around Dallas that were reserved for corporate sponsors but never anything like Disney.

Sounds like a fun day at TL! Your snorkel experience was kind of like ours, except at least you did it! My nephew, 8 REALLY wanted to snorkel badly, and he was REALLY intrigued by the sharks! We like BB better, but chose TL for him. So we waited in line for almost an hour, and he just couldn't get in the water! DSIS and I made it up to the ledge, and they were rushing us in without giving us a chance to get our bearings - we started out, and it was so cold that I was just Done! So we turned around and hopped back out - we got yelled at because that was bad protocol! :rotfl2: Later, DN and DH made a 2nd try, but he just couldn't bring himself to get in. Poor guy, he was so disappointed in himself. :sad2:

nice update glenn,

thats why you are suppose to get the photopass card from them with the little rubberband thingy on it to not lose it.

never eatin at that one before always go to leaning palms on the other side of the park, seems they have more options there.

Yo GB! Glad you've enjoyed it and thanks for letting me know.

By the way, since I just saw your Blog link in your signature it reminded me to check it out. I really liked your refillable mug analogy! :thumbsup2

We've done both BB and TL and other than Summit Plummit at BB the girls like TL better. Me I can do either 'cause I only "do" the lazy river. :lmao:

Good info. Summit Plummit is like Humunga Kowabunga, but even a little bit bigger, correct?

I would agree with that :thumbsup2 Selfish me, just thinking about me!

I won't hold it against you...I know you do plenty of thinking about others!

I would worry about the kids who haven't snorkeled though freaking out about the cold, snorkling is a bit weird until you get used to it.

You're exactly right. In addition to the cold, just breathing through the snorkel is weird.

I'm falling behind a bit, again. Oh well! Between planning my upcoming trip (Disney keeps changing the hours and shows), family and work it's getting harder to check in when I want.

That's okay Tom, no worries. I was going to apologize for not looking in on your PTR for a while, but I just looked and it's at about the same point as I last saw.

So that's what it was that burned! I didn't feel much of it since I pre-soaked before heading over to the entry point. The kids had to take thier masks off early on due to that burning. I just thought it was a high concentration of saltwater. Now I know!

If I had put it on just before getting into the water I might have thought it was from the saltwater too, but we hadn't even made it in yet.

Yeah. It's everything you can do to settle certain parts of you're anatomy into that water, especially if you are a southern boy like me.

You don't have to tell me! (No, seriously...please don't tell me. ;))

Awww. I found it to be quite interesting but I took my time to get across. (3 mins).

That sounds kind of quick too.

James sounds a lot like Kyler when he was younger. He was nervous about everything but once you cajolled him out he has a great time.

Exactly. But what gets me is that you think you've got them being a little more adventurous and the next year they're back to square 1! :confused3

Did they run the 6 ft wave every few minutes or continuous 4 ft?

A big wave every few minutes, and some gentle ones in between.

Yeah, I tried the same thing. In the deeper water they are meant for boogie boards or surfers. I was lucky when we first arrived and caught a few as they broke before it got too crowded around the 5 ft deep area.

Good job. Hang ten dude.

We had kept most of our stuff around the lounges. Checking around the boards we had read no reports of missing stuff, not that I would leave a wallet or actual keys laying around that is.

It's not worth the risk.

I still think she had an ulterior motive. What that could be I have no idea. :lmao:

She was obviously smitten, poor girl.

That's why I like to wear thick and long trunks when I go to waterparks. They dry slow but keep the rear powerwashing down to a minimum.

I might have to go that route.

Our Hurricane Falls in Dallas has ramps to take the tubes back up. TL is an aging park so maybe that would be an obvious rehab in the future.

You're probably right....it probably wasn't the norm when they built it.

There is also a path that starts near the Typhoon Tilly's and follows the lazy river to the same spot.

I think we walked on that some. It doesn't go off to the Crush 'n' Gusher, right? Just around to the front of the park?

I'll have to check all that out next time. Looks really cool!

I highly recommend it.

Now that is a great shot! Those waves hit with some force behind them, right?

Thank you. They sure do...durn tootin'!

Pretty much our opinion. Everything tastes good when your body has worked off hundreds of calories swimming.

Yep, it doesn't draw people to the park, but it's okay.

I thought it was pretty cloudy from looking at your pictures. Still, you seemed to have covered most of the park today!

The picture of the Tropical Amity sign and the Crush 'n' Gusher were taken after the lightning closed all the rides, so they may be darker. The skies look a little dark in the Photopass pic too, but everything was still open then.

Yeah, I think we at least tried most everything, but would have liked a few more rides.

Probably near a drain at the bottom of a slide no doubt.

:rotfl2: Yes, no doubt!

Looking forward to this! I've been in a few parks around Dallas that were reserved for corporate sponsors but never anything like Disney.

Hopefully, it'll be good.

Aw, poor kid. It's not as easy as it looks, especially for a youngster who's never done it before. (And glad I'm not the only one who thinks that water's pretty cold!)

Good Morning All !!!Glen I got it right too!!But Marv was first!!!!:rotfl2:

Thanks for letting him win Rosie. (You know how he gets when he loses.)

nice update glenn,

thats why you are suppose to get the photopass card from them with the little rubberband thingy on it to not lose it.

Thank you sir.

It was my park photopass card from previous days. I guess I shouldn't have taken it with me and just let them give me a new card.

never eatin at that one before always go to leaning palms on the other side of the park, seems they have more options there.

I knew Leaning Palms was there somewhere, but didn't see it until I went on the lazy river.

Thanks! It's been FAR too long since I updated that. Summer got crazy and I had to let something go. Think I'll I pick it back up again though. Also got my Summer 2010 TR going over at Zzub's house. (Non-Disney though).

Looking forward to more updates!

Take care bro!

That's okay Tom, no worries. I was going to apologize for not looking in on your PTR for a while, but I just looked and it's at about the same point as I last saw.

I swear I'll be updating it soon! Now that everything else for summer and school starting is out of the way I can focus again on the DL trip.

Exactly. But what gets me is that you think you've got them being a little more adventurous and the next year they're back to square 1! :confused3

He'll get over the hump soon enough. Either it will be some friends or he will find something on his own. Heck! I remember having some acrophobia getting on ski lifts when I was 10 y.o. and my dad dragging me on to them. Oh wait. Not one of my proudest moments.

I think we walked on that some. It doesn't go off to the Crush 'n' Gusher, right? Just around to the front of the park?

Yep. It connects near the towel/locker area but at least you don't have to cross the bridges.

I don't know what to tell you Brook. He kind of shocked me with how quickly he responded this time. I didn't even know he was on. And then he got the right answer with his first guess...how often does that happen?
Best as I can remember, 72,439 times to date! ;)
Judy used to lifeguard back in the day. (No Marv, I didn't fake drowning in order to meet her.)
That thought never entered my mind (at least not until I read it). I've met you two, so naturally I figured there had to be a lot of :drinking1 involved, by Judy of course! :rotfl2:
Thanks for letting him win Rosie. (You know how he gets when he loses.)
More determined when the next update comes around??? :rolleyes1

I'll try to get over there (Zzub's) sometime. It's hard though, just keeping up around here!

I'll be on the lookout for it.

Very Spock-like, except Spock was precise and accurate.

I will not confirm or deny that rumor. :ssst:

More determined when the next update comes around??? :rolleyes1

That'd mean I'd have to start writing first.

Hi, Glen. Love the Typhoon Lagoon update. The photopass shots are terrific. We've not been there in ten years, but we always loved it. We'd probably go back if they inserted elevators to take us up to the top of the slides. But Mark says he is just too darn old to be climbing all those stairs. :rotfl:

Love the TL update. Your Photopass people got some great shots. We have been to both TL and BB; I prefer TL but the rest of my crew likes BB. Go figure. :rolleyes1

Ooops, you're right....I forgot one! Make that 72,440! :thumbsup2

Yeah, you needed to add one. Riiiiight. :rotfl2:

Your silence is deafening...... :rolleyes1

Being the reigning champ, I was meaning that in general.......

You're humble, like Muhammad Ali.

Hello Kathy! Relaxing in front of the computer while on vacation, I see. :surfweb: I'm honored that you stopped in here. Glad you liked the latest update. Yes, you definitely don't need to do the stairmaster after visiting a waterpark. It can be quite a workout.

Love the TL update. Your Photopass people got some great shots. We have been to both TL and BB; I prefer TL but the rest of my crew likes BB. Go figure. :rolleyes1

Hi Jenny! :wave2: Thank you! Ain't that always the case. It's a miracle if we ever get unanimous agreement on anything, whether it's a park, an attraction, or just what to get on a pizza. :headache: But so far we've only ever been to TL, so the problems won't start until we've been to both and the differing preferences emerge.

Glenn, I am finally getting around to comment on your update! I think you are right, fall must be the perfect season for the water parks! I was rather sad that Katharina and I did not make it there in January. TL is such a pretty park! But I think I liked the slides at BB better. :goodvibes

And you are right about Crush n' Gusher: It was added to the park later on. I think three or four years ago? Supposedly there is another pssible expansion area at TL which might be developed at one point. I think TL without it must have been a bit boring, it is such a fantastic slide. The Aqua Duck on the Disney Dream will have the same concept I think.

January's probably right in the middle of the very short season when it would be too cold for a waterpark in Florida. But you still had plenty of things to keep you entertained, I'm sure.

Someday I'll be able to compare!

You're right, the slide on the Dream looks similar...and it looks like it will extend out over the side of the ship so for a period of time you'll have nothing below you but ocean. :scared1:

Now that's one heck of a cool concept!!!! I love it!
