The Med Thread - All Sailings - Mediterranean

Guarantees. I upgraded my stateroom on the 14 day Panama repo in 2005 and was allocated a GTY and only received a room number after the 90 day full payment date, it was well before the last month mark.

DISEMBARKCATION.

I have been to Barcelona, it is a very busy city the second largest in Spain, it has a large port. My Med cruise ends on a Wednesday, this is a woirking day, and due to the heat often the city starts ealry and people might have a break at lunchtime.

Letting people disembark from 6.45am will drop them into the start of the rush hour, if you have more thsan one ship in port disembarking at the same time, you can work it out for yourself, it will be very busy.

I suggest for everyone ending a cruise midweek on a Wednesday for example and having flights the same day, say lunchtime to early afternoon to book with DCL transfers.

You can get to the airport by taxi, but lots of people will be after thoose, not just ofr the airport, but hotels, if they are staying over, you can go by a mixture of underground metro train and overhead trains, they are fast and good, but with lots of luggage do you wish to have this agro at the end of your trip?

The airport is not to far, so no need to panic, but plan ahead, whats your preference and give yourself time.

We have on line booked limo transport from the airport to hotel, hotel to port and also to pick us up at the dock and transport back to airport.

We thought that would be better than waiting and trying to get a tax and it is all sorted.

They were very helpful, understand english and you can do it all by email.
Their web site is www.blailimousines.com if this is of help to you.

Thank you very much. This is very comforting. I think I will book this as soon as I know how many of us will be coming in on the same flight.

I am flying to paris from barcelona and doing it on iberia but it flys into orly not cdg. Airfrance flys direct but they can be pricey. Use expedia or sidestep to check out other airlines. British air flys but you have to connect in heathrow.

Thanks! I checked out Sidestep and found Easyjet for $70/person. Anybody have a comment on this airline? Anybody going by train? With 2 kids in tow, it might be more fun to see the countryside. How long is the trip by train?

Oooohhh, the planning is starting. So many things to do!:hourglass

Be sure to check the luggage restrictions on any flights within Europe. They're typically very different than flights within the US and international flights.

For example, EasyJet charges for the second bag and charges for weight over a fairly low threshold. The extra luggage charges for someone used to "flying American" can easily be as much as the base ticket.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I read in one of my travel books that it is about 6 hours by train from Paris to Barcelona.

Hope this helps

Patricia

I just checked Eurail and it's about a 12 hour ride between Paris and Barcelona. Using a February date, the cost I was getting was from Euro 668 to Euro 1524. Ouch! Am I in the wrong site?

Thanks!

Hi

I checked with easyjet for 2 adults and 2 childrens - for one way cost €215.96. But at Paris Orly (I don't know if it is outside Paris)? You can look at www.easyjet.com. Remember about weight baggages as might charge you more well. Check it about baggages.

I often go with easyjet to Belfast, London but it was fine but have to be there on time as easyjet is very strict with time!!

Hope that help.

I have been told www.ryanair.com is a good one as well. I just looked at Easyjet and Ryan air and Ryan air was half the cost......what do you guys who know ...... think????:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Thanks! I looked at Ryanair website. Am I doing something wrong? For 2 adults and 2 kids, fare is 2.99 euro each. After tax and all, the total for the four of us is 96.64 EUR. Okay, somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong, please.

ryan air does not fly out of BCN, so if you use ryan air, does disney do a shuttle to the other barcelona airports? Ryan Air and Easy Jet are the southwests of europe! But they go into the smaller airports and that could be a problem for some. Anyone with info about the transfer advise. I am calling dvc to ask about a one way transfer tomorrow so I will also check on transfers to alternate airports.

I'm planning on getting from Paris to Barcelona by train. It might be the same one you're looking at. My friend and I are planning on taking the Elipsos Trenhotel. It's a sleeper train and it looks like about a 12 hr trip -- 8pm-ish to 8am-ish. I think your pricing sounds comparable to what I saw since you're pricing out 4 passengers. We figured that part of the offset in the cost is that it's a night we're not paying for hotel and also includes dinner and breakfast. I found my info at www.raileurope.com and they have pricing in USD. They did change their site around a bit, though, and you don't get to see all pricing options for booking -- they just highlight a few popular ones.

Would you mind sharing how much the fee is, what type of car and if they charge per person or per trip? They don't mention any of this on their site.

We have not arranged the time from hotel to port as yet - said about 11.a.m. but they have left this open for us until we receive all the details.

The return trip to the airport we have asked for 10.a.m. as our flight is not until 1.p.m. and then we do not have to rush as it would appear we have to disembark by 9, collect luggage etc.
