The Marvels

Look, man, disagreeing with you is not trying to "patrol" your thoughts. If you actually wanted to step in and make a cogent argument, people would be less dismissive of you.

I've seen him use it so much and I don't think he has used it correctly once

I disagree with you on the movie but do agree with your point. Somehow whenever a movie one doesn't like fails, people are like, "See? It's a flop!" If a movie that they deem is good fails, there is always some excuse - and vice-versa. What about all of the ones that do succeed? You always hear silence.

For the record, I actually like a lot of "bad" movies too - some of which did well enough and some that flopped. The financials just do not corellate to the quality of the movie.
I agree with this and think it is just human nature. TLJ was so offensively bad to me that it is hard for me to understand anyone liking that movie. It’s also regarded as the most divisive SW movie ever, so clearly I am not alone in my thoughts. However, it made a bunch of money on the heels of a solid first entry in TFA. My opening night 5 tickets are in that box office number so I added to the financial success. It was a solid financial success for Disney. However I can assure you that the steaming pile of poo that is TLJ will never wrestle another dime out of my hands.

I love Rey, Poe, and Finn but the Canto Bight scenes bored me to tears.

I will never forgive them for switching up the directors in the middle of a trilogy
And could not have made a worse choice in Rian Johnson if they tried. Mr let me “subvert your expectations”.

I love plenty of movies that have flopped, so I agree that something many consider good can flop.

Here are my examples for stuff I really liked that flopped at the box office:
- Office Space
- Fight Club
- Newsies
- Dazed and confused
- A Christmas Story
- Heathers
- Shawshank Redemption
- The Big Lebowski

Nicholas Cage? Just binging it back to an earlier post. He may have made something more interesting now that I think about it.

Maybe David Lynch - love his movies but....

This is so true for other fandoms too. Like when gamers complain that the newest Call of Duty sucks but they still buy the $100 special edition.
Well they may have pre-ordered it....Ive been burned by that a few times TBH

I gave up on call of duty a long time ago - Im not into the online part of it - I liked when it had a bigger story line in solo play - yeah I know I am old.

Or of course the dreaded trap of, "It's the same game every year!" Then they change it up. "They changed too much and it's no longer the same!" 😩

I like it when a movie surprises me. It's not a bad thing to subvert expectations. Then I might argue that TLJ DIDN'T actually do that, but that's a different argument.

Agree to disagree on this one. The direction Johnson chose to take Luke in, subverted the majority of prior fans expectations. Like big time subverted them!

It’s considered one of the most divisive movies in cinematic history for a reason imho.

Yeah, but it makes me curious - what were the fan expectations?

I mean, Luke says in the movie, "You think what? I'm gonna walk out with a laser sword and dace down the whole First Order?" And then, that's what happened.

We have been through this and I will never convince you and you will likely never convince me.

- Luke was hopes and dreams and optimism to a fault
- Luke would have never have become a miserable hermit that abandoned his friends.
- Luke would not have thrown his lightsaber off a cliff
- Luke would have never considered killing his beloved nephew even if just for a moment
- Luke should have gotten a proper send off with respect, not fading away alone from “using the force to much”

Good movies flop
Bad movies smash

I would love maybe a show or movie to fill in that timeframe from 5 ABY and 34 ABY. I read shadow of the Sith and Bloodlines but maybe something that covers the Han/Lea/Kylo of it all
