~ The Man Report ~~~~~~~~~ Bonus Material Included ~~~~~~

I grew up near Chicago and there are a few more Giordano's around than Geno's, so if I need a real deep dish fix, I'll go there. I'd still say Geno's East is the best if you're anywhere near Chicago, though.

Could have gone to California Pizza Kitchen and gotten duck on your pizza, I'd imagine. :)

I’m not a bird hater, per se. I just don’t like them. I do NOT like the way they fly at me and they always seem to zero in on me. When we had mice in our house, (that was my fault-I was trying to feed the wild bunnies in our yard so they’d stop eating our grass). I put rabbit food out and attracted the mice and it became a 5 year non stop project of mine to rid us of the rodents. Thank goodness we moved…

Anyway, I put a glue board under our deck, where the mice liked to live, and wouldn’t you know it- a crow got stuck to it. I could hear it all day out there flopping around under our deck. It finally worked its way to the edge and I got a box and made Buzz put it in the box. I secured the box very well, loaded it up in my car and drove it to a vet’s where they rescued the bird from the board, cleaned it up and set it free.

See? I’m not a bird hater-if I hated birds, I would’ve let it die, but I saved it. Of course, I was also the one who almost killed it, but that was an accident.

One time, I was riding with my mom and we were stopped at one of the busiest intersections in town and here's a mama duck with 5 babies crossing the street. I knew the traffic wouldn't see them so I jumped out and stopped the traffic so they could all cross safely. The mama proceeded to lead her babies on a death march through a Shopko parking lot so I gathered all the babies up in my shirt and took them to a pond where they were reunited with Mama Duck. I try to respect the birds, but they just won't leave me alone.

I don’t know how I developed this fear of them-they never used to scare me until a few years ago. I’ve never seen the movie the Birds, but I know I wouldn’t like it based on what everyone is saying. So that’s the story on the birds.

I was just really, really thankful I wasn’t turned around facing the other direction in the pool or I would’ve seen that duck coming at me and then I would’ve had heart failure. :scared1: One thing Buzz did not mention is the duck actually skimmed the top of my head. I felt something touch the top of my hair and looked around, confused. Then I saw the duck and Buzz said, “Yeah it hit your head.” Why me??? :confused3

I was amused by it swimming with us, but as you can see, I was the one out of the pool taking the pictures. It really was playing with us, which was neat. I did not scream and cause a scene-I merely got out quietly and started taking pictures.

The pool area was packed when we arrived-there were no empty chairs and only one table. Buzz grabbed that, as he said and before we knew it we practically had the pool to ourselves… I always feel self conscious when I walk up to a pool-my family does not help my anxiety! I prefer to just blend into the crowd-they have no qualms about attracting attention to us…

What Buzz also didn’t mention was he didn’t finish his last beer. He poured it into the bushes so not only did we invade the pool area, but we had this stench of beer around our table….:sad2:

Giordano’s- great pizza! I love it there. Ordinarily, I try to stick with eating organic foods and avoid chemicals and things as my GI system does not like that type of thing. I made a horrible error this night. After dinner, I joined Buzz in his “no foods barred” diet. :guilty:

M&M’s, Bugles, Chips, Wine, Cookies, Donuts, Popcorn etc. All the stuff my system HATES and holds me accountable for it for days on end… I figured what the heck I’m on vacation. However, my stomach was not. I don’t know what I was thinking…:confused3 :confused3

Buzz told me about the guys in the hot tub the next morning. I kind of remember waking up and hearing them, but figured it was a dream and went back to sleep. Let him deal with it....

That picture of Buzz with the "gang" symbols. Words fail me... He kept doing that all week. I can't believe I took a picture of him doing it b/c by the end of the week, I was pretty well angered by it. Or maybe I was just tired of it, I can't remember. What you don't have the "benefit" of is hearing him say the words, "Two-One" while he's doing that hand thing. Whatever that meant. I told him on more than one occasion to knock it off....

:rotfl2:
Oh, Lin! I totally feel your pain. I'm deathly afraid of birds as well. Rightfully so, I've been attached twice! Once by a kamakazi Hummingbird, who attacked me because I unknowingly walked too close to her nest. And once by a mean psychotic goose, who thought my flip flops belonged in her nest.
:scared1:
I refuse to go anywhere birds hangout. I will not visit the atrium at the zoo and there's no way I'll ever, ever see "Flights of Wonder" at AK. Uh-uh, not happening!:sad2:Great Installement, Buzz! :thumbsup2

Yikes-I've heard geese and hummingbirds can be really mean!

I saw the FoW. Buzz told me was a movie! It was live birds flying around the audience! :scared:

Me either!

Great installment!

Linnie-- I'm totally with ya on the bird thing! :scared:

When I was in middle school one day they called the whole school over the intercom & told the teachers to have all the students packed up for the rest of the day & to report to the audotorium ready to go home:confused3 The school then proceeded to show us Alfred Hitchcock's movie The Birds! Never told us why either. :scared1: Then they proceeded to let us leave for the day-- a nice autumn afternoon. Tons of quiet children walking home looking skyward at all the hundreds even thousands of birds lined up staring at us on the wires. :scared: That was the longest quietest walk of my life. That movie scarred me for life. It wasn't tell a bunch of us were planning our 15th class reunion & talking about that that a former classmate who was on the student body explained to us that the school had raised a little extra money & it was a REWARD for all of our hard work & good behavior! I mean really WTH!!!!:confused3

Yeah, WTH?? That is NOT my idea of a reward either!! :headache: Eek!!

Hmmm the two hour flu huh? Interesting after all that binging :rolleyes1 Am I jealous though, I have a wedding dress to get into which has = slim fast meals for months. The moment I start the honeymoon full gluttony begins! I love the pool sequence and btw, I'm terrified of birds also from watching The Birds as I kid. My heart goes out to you Linnie!

Buzz is such a drill sergeant on vacation, I actually lose weight by the time our trip ends!

You and Linnie should go into the comedy business. I can imagine you two are the life of the party where ever you go.

Keep them coming!!! I love it.

Hmm, mostly people just seem annoyed with us.

ok i have been laughing all the way through this report. my problem today is that i had my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday suddenly. so trying to laugh through this has not been fun.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that-that is painful.

Glad you like the TR. It was a fun trip.

I'm sorry to have made so many posts today instead of putting all the quotes on one post-my stupid mouse won't let me highlight things-I think I need a new one. :badpc:

~ The Man Report ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~2007~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~King of GAT~~~~~~~

Due to the 2-hour flu bug  coupled with the drunken pre-adults from the night before, I made the command decision on Day 2 to sleep in. :thumbsup2

It’s Monday now & I know deep down I’m just asking for trouble. :guilty: It’s Spring Break for Florida high schools, the weather is nice, and the parks are going to be PACKED!

However, since I didn’t plan this trip months in advance like I usually do, plus I made the commitment to sleep in whenever we felt like it, I simply turned the alarm off, rolled over and grumbled to Lin, “Go back to sleep”.

Lin ain’t a big morning person so staying in bed wouldn’t be an issue for her. She made some sort of muffled grunt which I took to mean “fine by me”.

All we really had to do today was get to Epcot by 11:30 a.m. for our only planned meal with the children. The reservation is for Garden Grill located in the Land Pavilion. This is the same building that Soarin’ is located.

We get out of bed around 9:30, have a cup of coffee and get ready to leave for Epcot. I made the decision late last night that Secret Experiment #1 needed to be “shelved” for a later date. My delicate constitution wasn’t ready for that type of diet and may never be. The healthiest thing I could find to eat for breakfast was a day old glazed donut so I chowed it down.

Before going to Epcot, I load up all our swimming gear, pool toys, and life jackets in the trunk of the car. Today is the day to test out Secret Experiment #2.

We arrived at Epcot around 10:15 a.m. This is the first time that I can ever remember not showing up at a theme park at the “rope drop”. Even with all of our years of experience, we are not ready for the horrors of showing up late to a very busy Epcot.

Unlike the morning before, we parked somewhere north of the Magic Kingdom and began our commute towards the big golf ball. I’ve never been on the parking lot tram at Epcot before so it felt awkward and weird.

We finally arrive at the security check point where they go thru your bags and it’s mass chaos like you’ve never seen before. There are egg-timers everywhere. Anyone showing up at Epcot at 10:30 a.m. during spring break probably falls into one of three groups:

1). WDW Rookies
2). Victims of the deadly “2-hour flu bug”.
3). Canadians

There are about 10 lines for the security bag check point but you cannot distinguish any of them. There’s just a huge cluster of about 500 people all standing around looking very confused. Many of them are 7 across, looking at park maps, then looking at the big golf ball, then back to the park map.

They just can’t seem to figure out what’s going on. I go into full GAT mode, and yell back to Linnie to “follow me”! She nods her understanding as we implement “Operation Forward Motion”.

The procedure from here out is clear to the entire family. Buzz will be GAT’n like a mad dog and the family just needs to try and keep up. If I lose them, it’s considered their fault. :smokin:

I snake our way thru the throng of humanity, stepping on toes, elbowing the elderly, and constantly making forward progress towards the security tables. I know that getting to the middle lines is key as most people will migrate towards the outside line as they really don’t even know what’s going on at all.

All the rooks have no idea it’s a security line as there are so many people you can’t even see what the hold up is let alone the security sign or personnel.

I do a series of brilliant GAT maneuvers that place us right at one of the middle security tables. We unzip our backpacks, are quickly inspected, and then off like a shot to the FAR turnstiles to enter the park.

After security, most people now go to the VERY long line which is the middle set of turnstiles and closest to the security tables. By going to the far turnstiles that say “Cast Members & Guests” you can gain entry to the parks a lot faster as most people think it’s for Cast Members ONLY. We walked up and there wasn’t a single person in line.

By the time we got our stroller, I glanced at my watch and read 10:45. It only took us 15 minutes from the time we parked until we entered and obtained our stroller. That was simply incredible!

We hurried thru the mass crowds and got to Test Track. We knew we wouldn’t be riding it, but wanted to get Fast Passes for after lunch. The return time for Test Track was 3 p.m.!!! I knew there was no way in heck we were going to still be in the parks at 3 p.m. but I got the fast passes anyway.

We then bolt over to the Garden Grill restaurant which opens at 11 a.m. and see if they’ll seat us early. They oblige and we are the first people to be sat in the restaurant for the day. I didn’t like our original seats at a table with chairs so I requested to be moved to a booth along the outside of the rotating restaurant.

They move us to the booth which just happens to be the booth for the “Garden Family of the Day”. Yaa hoo! It’s us!! :woohoo:

They inform us that we’ll get to meet the chef, all the characters will come meet our family as a group for pictures, and that we’ll get some other special treats and so forth. :)

This is the second time we’ve received something special because of the “Year of a Millions Dreams” celebration. In October, we received Dream Fast Passes. Now you know why Epcot is our favorite park.

Lunch is great but very expensive. It’s over $80 for four of us and I only had ONE beer! The kids loved interacting with Mickey, Pluto and Chip & Dale. I like how the different characters actually ACT the way they’re supposed to. For example: Chip & Dale were mischievous and threw food, drank our beverages (pretending) and snuck up on us. It was really cute.

After lunch the chef came out, had a sign-in book, then offered us fast passes for any ride we wanted! Perfect! It was only noon now and I wanted to hit Test Track for Moan Boy then leave for the day and implement Secret Experiment #2.

Next Up: Secret Experiment #2

When we had mice in our house, (that was my fault-I was trying to feed the wild bunnies in our yard so they’d stop eating our grass). I put rabbit food out and attracted the mice and it became a 5 year non stop project of mine to rid us of the rodents. Thank goodness we moved…

Mice are a real problem here (outside) but we have Oreo (our cat) to take care of it ;)

awww.....

Buzz and Linnie Below:

Oh that is so cute!! Thank you!

Once I was driving to work and took this road that has a lot of duck activity on it. I saw a female duck pacing back and forth and quacking like crazy. Her mate had gotten hit by a car and was lying dead on the side of the road. I dont' think I've ever recovered from seeing that-I cried all the way to work and still get really sad when I think of how badly upset that female duck was.....

I have other stories of me trying to rescue the birds, but I'll save those for another time. Suffice it to say, it's not unusual to see my car blocking traffic to let the wildlife (including birds) cross the street safely. Even the mice- I abandoned the glue boards after the crow incident and would catch the mice in live traps. I'd take them to the ditch and set them free. My dad told me that was the problem-I didn't take them far enough away and they kept coming back!!

I was happy to see another trip report from the Mills clan. But WHY did you have to give away MY secret to entering EPCOT? That's "our" entrance!!

Sounds like you had a great trip. I look forward to reading the rest of your TR!

We love Garden Grill, and especially Chip & Dale!

Yeah! I caught up... Oh, wait - that's a bad thing!!! NOW what do I do??? :scared1:

I read your entire other "man" report yesterday (I skipped Survivor, if that tells you anything! :upsidedow )

I'm not a morning person either but for some odd reason I was always the first one up in WDW
