The mall was empty today

Went out to the mall this morning to get my hair cut and the place was deserted. I can't believe that this little bit of snow is enough to keep people away. Great deals out there too. I picked up a bunch of stuff at JCPenney that was 50 and 60% off.

I was at several stores and a mall earlier today and none of them were busy. You would think the weekend before Christmas they'd all be jammed.

Where are you both? We are having a blizzard here in Maryland and no way I would head out to the mall.

Heard on the news earlier that there are 80,000 people without power in two VA counties and there have been over 4000 car accidents in VA..

Looks like a nasty, nasty storm - rapidly changing - piling up quickly - and people may not want to take a chance on getting stranded.. They could spend an hour in the mall and then come outside to find an additional 3 inches of snow on the ground and absolutely treacherous driving conditions..
Probably just playing it safe and staying home..:santa:

We were at the Streets at Southpoint in Durham NC today and while it was busy it was in no way a zoo like you would expect the weekend before "The Holiday". I was surprised.

we didn't have any snow in nashville, and the traffic was at a stand still on the exit for the Opry Mills Mall. it must have been a mad house over there!

I really needed to go to Southpoint today but I'm in Roxboro and had enuf trouble getting to Walmart!!! Walmart was empty too!

I wouldn't have minded getting out but 24+" of snow have kind of gotten in the way.

agnes!

DH and I ventured out in the storm this morning and the mall was deserted! Most of the stored were closed (at 10am). DH and I hit JCP first and they were suprised to see us, we must have been one of their first customers of the day, lol, and it was around 8:30am! Due to the storm they didn't have their 6am opening, but 7. There was even a security officer going around the mall from store to store announcing that the mall would be closed at 11am. The parking lot was terrible to drive in.

Target's lot was also bad, but there were no lines as no one was there. After that we called it a way. We were home by 11am, but the roads were awful. People can't drive!!!! Hvaing spent the last few winters in Michigan and eastern Washington state we have learne dhow to drive in snow. The people here need to take a lesson or two!

I don't know how much snow we've had, but my guess is probably between 15-20".

We're looking at upward to 8" (hubby is claiming more) here and there is no way that I'm going out in that today. I so wanted to head to the mall, but a 45 minute drive? No way! My son is disgusted that he's having to park his Mustang. He got stuck trying to get out of the driveway, and that was after it was shoveled. He's SO not happy. :lmao:

I was amazed at the slowness of the shopping day too. I was in a smallish local mall & in Target today....did what I needed to do in about 2 hours, no long lines....

I work in a mall. I've been finding that the first couple hours the mall is open, things are pretty slow. As the day progresses, it gets a LOT busier. When I left tonight at 5, cars were absolutely crawling around the mall and I was followed for my parking space. I don't know that we're QUITE as busy as most years, but we're not slow either.

It wasn't slow at my local mall at all today. It was crazy.. The traffic getting there was insane.

I'm in NJ and when I was out (between 11 and 2-ish) it wasn't snowing much at all yet. The ground was covered but I figured that people would be out early before the big snow hit. Well, better for me. I didn't have to wait on any lines.

There's really no reason for people in MD to know how to drive in the snow, because it rarely ever snows this much. I believe they said this is the biggest snow storm in December in 25 years. How would we even learn how to drive in the snow.

Well, if a lot of climate scientists are correct, we're going into a cold cycle that might last quite a few years, so those 25 year lows, might start all over again.

Still though, I think getting around in this weather is more determined by the automobile you're driving than anything else.

My son for example, he couldn't get his Mustang out of the driveway. :rotfl: Someone with 4 wheel drive wouldn't have a problem though. Even front wheel drive is better than his rear wheel drive car in this type of weather. He doesn't want to hear that though!

If that's true, I guess we'll get more snow and we'll all learn to drive in it. I agree about the vehicles though. But I'm not buying a 4 wheel drive just for that one storm a year. If I lived in Michigan that's a whole other story.

Right now we have over 18" outside. I feel terrible for any retail employess who were forced to go into work and risk getting hurt so people could shop.

I admit I am a bit stir crazy by now-especially thinking about tomorrow, but would rather have stores closing than anyone running off the road with conitions like today's.

I'm not buying a 4 wheel drive either. Front wheel drive is good enough for me. If it gets that bad, we should be at home anyway. Someone posted that there were 4000 accidents in VA alone from this storm. That screams to me that it's just not worth going out in.
