I have never heard of a heated curler. I have a never-curl-after-mascara rule due to extreme clumping! What is the Fatale? Another brand of mascara?

I use just a regular eyelash curler that I either heat with a blow dryer or stick it in my hot rollers for a few minutes. I do have to de-clump sometimes, but honestly, with my lashes this is the only way to get mine to curl at all. Otherwise, they'd go straight as soon as I apply mascara.

Fatale is a brand of mascara by Lancome. It is difficult to apply, but I get fantastic results, especially when I pair it with the Lash Injection.

My lashes are very thin and skimpy. I use the Lash Injection and curl my lashes with a heated curler AFTER applying mascara. You do have to be very careful when removing the curler because sometimes it sticks - just be very patient and slowly try to remove it. Also, sometimes this will cause my mascara to clump in which case I very carefully separate with a bobby pin or safety pin. I have noticed that the Lash Injection does tend to make my lashes stick out more so than other mascaras, but when I curl them, they look fantastic.

I tried layering the lash injection like a few posters on here mentioned and it didn't work for me. I wound up with a clumpy mess. So then I tried layering with Fatale first (over a primer), then the Lash Injection, curled them, and - WOW!!! I couldn't believe those were my lashes! Where did they all come from?? :lmao:

A safety pin! :scared1: The way my hands shake, I'd blind myself trying to do something like that.

My lashes are weird too. Thin and sparse. The lower left ones have a gap in them because a few are missing.

I can't remember where I read this, but I saw somewhere that older women should use a lengthening mascara and younger ones a volume mascara, so I tried a lengthening one and I don't like how it looks at all. I think I'll go back to one of my cheapo volume mascaras.

To those of you with funky lash issues....

This might seem like a dumb question, but are you starting your mascara application "on the top" - if you will, and then once you get enough on, working it up into place, as it dries?

I have straight lashes, and have never had to do anything but the ^^^above^^^ and they turn out okay. :confused3

My one g/f sent me an email - replying to my one yesterday.

She ran to the store at lunch, all she wrote was:

I got some salami, cheese, air freshener, skinny water and MONISTAT! Woo!

:lmao:

I don't understand what you're asking.

I have been lurking around here, excellent tips.
I was very interested in the monistat tip. I happened to notice on the label of my Aveda light elements smoothing fluid, pretty much the same ingredients. I am going to give it a try just because it is on hand.
I have loved finding out about makeup alley have shared that with several friends, and the makeup tutorials on youtube.
Thanks!

Cat, I don't understand what you're talking about with the mascara, either. Please elaborate!

Also, I tried the Matrix root lifter and I love it!!! It makes my hair look so FULL - even my DD noticed the difference. I do have one question, though, for Cat. Can I use this stuff when I get my extensions? Because if so, my hair is going to look fantastic (and I always thought that was an oxymoron!).

Me either, I'm lost!

MASCARA - When youre applying it, on your top lashes, your applying on the top first (on the lid side), like down - down - down, and sweeping it up as you do so. Then - once you have enough on there, you begin sweeping and working them upwards (on the eyeball underside) And moving them into place... they begin to dry at this point and you can finagle them upwards much easier.

Does that make sense?

The root lifter.... you wont need it. Trust me. Besides, the less product you use on them, the better.

:wave2: Hi! let us know what you think of being a Monistat face, too.

what is the monistat trick?

Thank you BeattyFamily for finding this:

Here's the Truth

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By now you've read about how women are using Monistat's Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel as a make-up base primer. You might even have had the same reaction we did: "Monistat? On my face? Are you nuts?"

You see it's not that Monistat. Yes, it's the same company but this powder-gel has NOTHING to do with the Monistat yeast infection products. (This product doesn't treat yeast infections.)

Monistat's Chafing Relief Powder-Gel is actually part of the Monistat Soothing Care Skin Care line and was developed to complement Monostat's medical products.

Bottom line: Monistat Chafing Relief Gel should be renamed the "Monistat Make-Up Miracle". We admit we didn't think it could live up to the hype, but it did and it has earned our five-star endorsement.

For literally a fraction of what you'd spend on famous name base makeup primers, the Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel does a better job because it contains a ton of dimethicone which is the key, active ingredient in the expensive primers.

Dimethicone creates a barrier for your skin which evens out your skin's surface much the same way you use a base coat on your nails before applying color.

Why Women Love It:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a summary of what women reported they liked best about Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel as a makeup primer (foundation base).

• Dries to a powder finish.
• Creates a matte surface so makeup glides on and stays on.
• Smooths out large pores, uneven skin tone and blemishes.
• Prevents breakouts.
• Allows for much smoother for eye shadow application on mature skin.
• Keeps make-up looking fresh by locking it in.
• Makes your face look youthful and dewy.
• Helps concealer glide on.
• Doesn't feel greasy.
• Helps mineral make up last longer and look less cakey.
• Makeup stays on for 8+ hours, looking as good as when first applied.
• Excellent mattifier on top of any cream/lotion/sunscreen.
• Fragrance free.
• Non-irritating.
• Non-toxic.
• Non-staining
• Smooths skin texture which reflects light and eliminates
shadows (so you look younger)
• Tasteless (if someone kisses your cheek)
• Non-pore-clogging (non-comedogenic)
• Keeps your makeup fresh in 100+ degree heat (great for summer)
• Gentle enough to use every day.
• Softens appearance of fine lines.

Downside & Drawbacks:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• Made by Monistat -- not a name you associate with makeup.
• Doesn't contain sunscreen.
• Often sold out at local stores and hard to find.
• Need to stockpile (get the discount 3-pack available only at Amazon.com)

Why It Works:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The secret ingredient in Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel is dimethicone, which is found in all the high-end foundation/face primers. Dimethicone is a silicone emollient (a skin softener) that forms a silky, breathable barrier between the skin on your face and your foundation.

This dimethicone barrier has 3 benefits:

1> This barrier locks in your moisturizer under your make-up to keep your skin nourished.

2> The dimethicone barrier prevents oils from your skin from breaking through to your foundation. Since the oils can't get through, your skin never looks greasy or oily. No more blotting.

3> While dimethicone prevents oil from getting out, it also prevents your foundation from getting in. This means that your skin won't absorb your makeup so your makeup looks fresh all day, even on hot days. It holds makeup in place so well and for so many hours, many women report that they have stopped powdering their faces, giving their skin a more natural, youthful look.

How to Use It:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You want to use the Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel after you apply your moisturizer but before you apply your foundation.
In other words, use whatever products you normally apply to your clean, dry face, followed by a medium coat of the Monistat Powder-Gel. Wait about 2 minutes for the Monistat to dry, then apply your foundation as usual.

When applying the Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel, be sure to concentrate on areas that are deeply lined and/or rough in texture to help fill-in and smooth-out. Also focus on problem oil areas like the chin and sides of nose.

What we love most is the price difference for essentially the better product.

With the exception of the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer which is a tad bigger than the Monistat Chafing Powder-Gel, all the other foundation primers are 50% smaller (1 ounce) while the Monistat Powder-Gel is 1.5 ounces.

In other words, the Monistat product is 80% cheaper (up to $38 less) and you get 50% more product than the famous brands.

Less expensive is always good but what how do the products themselves compare? One user of the ultra-popular Smashbox product commented "sometimes the Smashbox seems grainy and the Monistat is very consistent in texture".

Another woman agreed and added "It's the only primer I use now. I've tried Smashbox, Laura Mercier primer, the new Clarins primer and a few others, but honestly there is no need to try anything else. Monistat is as good or better and far less expensive than anything else available."

Where to Buy:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can generally find Monistat's Chafing Relief Powder-Gel at popular drugstores like Walgreens, Wal-Mart, CVS and Rite-Aid in the same shelf area as the Monistat yeast-infection related products.

This is assuming Monostat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel is even in stock. We've heard countless tales of woe from women visiting three, four and five different stores with nothing to show. As word spreads, the out-of-stock problem gets even worse.

Then we discovered the mother-load, the never-out-of-stock solution: Amazon.com who (brace yourself) sell it in a 3-pack for $18.17 (that's only $6.05 per tube!)
Click here for today's price on Amazon

We love Amazon.com for this product because...
• No sales tax
• Free shipping on orders of $25 or more
(we get two 3-packs)
. One 3-pack is eligible for Amazon Prime
• Cheaper than CVS, Walgreens, even Wal-Mart.
• Never have to worry about running out.
(Heaven help us if Oprah ever mentions this miracle.)

Note: Expiration dates are generally one year or more from date of purchase. If you use it everyday, one tube will last 2-4 weeks.

Ingredients:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dimethicone (1.2%).
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Trisiloxane.

I'm going to have to go out tonight and pick up those other 2 CVS tubes. This is spreading like wildfire. :lmao:

I'm not sure I totally understand, but I don't hold the applicator against the lashes until they start to dry. I do apply to my top lashes first, starting at the base of the lash and extend the applicator up toward the tip of the lash. I pretty much hit the middle of the eye first and then go towards the inside and outside. Each time starting at the base and extending to the tip. This is what I always have done with my lashes and it used to work, but that was before when I always used mascara and all of the other makeup.

Maybe my problem is using the lash extending masacara instead of volume style. :confused3

Stila too. :thumbsup2

Ummm - have you tried www.everydayminerals.com ?

I like them WAY better than Bare Minerals - and theyre cheaper and their color selection is awesome AND you can get a generous free sample to start with for only $4 shipping. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link! I just ordered my sampe - and they do ship to Canada :thumbsup2

I use Cetaphil to wash my face and follow up with Oil of Olay "Regenerist Micro-sculpting" cream. It smells so nice. And I use it on my neck as well. I buy both these items in Target. :thumbsup2

I use Cetaphil to wash my face as well (I have very sensitive skin and a bit of rosacea and this is perfect for me!).

My favorite perfume is Nina (Nina Ricci). It smells like candy apple

Is a good liquid liner to use Mac Fluidline? Are any of their mascaras good? I was looking online and their prices are very reasonable. I always thought all of the department store makeup was crazy expensive.

Oh, and any one that is looking for the Monostat stuff, try Kroger. I was just there and they have it by the "other" monostat stuff and it was about 5.50. I was tempted, but I just bought the Primetime.

Monistat. I loved that article. I almost feel like I can try this now. Maybe on my lunch break. I love that my store has a self-check since I won't need anything else and I will be embarrassed to be running in for just my Monistat!

Mascara. I am afraid if I put it on the "top" of my lashes I will get it all over my beautifully shadowed and lined eyelids. Also, I never put it on the bottom lashes. I saw a makeup artist on Oprah once that said not to, but I can remember exactly why. I also read an article once written by a makeup artist that said if you blink after application on the top lashes you will spread as much as you actually need onto the bottom lashes, so that's what I do.

I've never used mascara on the tops of my lashes - I had always heard/read not too as well. :confused3 But, I have good lashes and CG LashBlast is all I need.

On a side note: I've been having severe hair issues the past couple of months - it is really dry, I guess from the winter/low humidity. It has never been like this before. I ordered some MoroccanOil I had read about a few months back here on the DIS and just got out of the shower and used it for the first time. OMG my hair feels amazing and I haven't even styled it yet! I let it air dry for about 2 hours, then blow dry straight. I can't wait to see how it helps my hair when I'm done!

Awesome.....let us know what you think of EM.

I use Dial Soap - the original gold. It's anti-bacterial, and it's always worked for me. You guys have me wanting to try Cetaphil, though.

And I have wanted to smell that Nina perfume for SO long. I sniffed a magazine insert - and never found it in the store, to smell. I love DKNY's Be Delicious, so I was intrigued.

But did you see the article about Nina perfume and Twilight perfume?

Lemme see if I can find it.....

.

I actually really like MAC's ProLash (I think??) It's the cheapest one and in a silver tube. It was my absolute favorite for many years.... just the standard one.

And YES - although Im enjoying my Stila Smudge Pots - I like MAC's fluidline better. And it literally stays useable to the very last drop...no drying out. I think it's great. And again, IMO - the best of all of them.

I know - I was literally giggling a bit when I was in the feminine cleansing item aisle - to the condoms - to the yeast meds - back to the cleansing items. :lmao: I was like an embarrassed kid.

And I always - always - always put it on the top. The bulk of it goes on top, and the bottom is only really to work it into place.

Bottom lashes - I do bottom lashes, however - I use the 'used' brush (like I dont redip for it) just a quickie back and forth.

There will be a Morrocan Oil booth at the hair show this year and Im excited to try it out. :thumbsup2

Beautiful! I will try it that way tomorrow, because I have the day off so I can wash it off and start again if I ruin my face!
