Can all you ladies that use the mineral/powder foundations clue me in please? I picked up a couple of the samples they were giving away at Sephora a couple weeks ago and I am having technical difficulties, lol.

I've tried using it a couple of times and it seems to just cake on in spots. Even with the tiniest amount I rub into the brush. :confused3 Plus, being winter, my skin is kind of dry right now - this stuff finds any little dry spot or flaky area and makes it look a million times worse.

What am I doing wrong? I *really* want to like this stuff from all the rave reviews it gets, but we just do not get along!

I just got my Bare Minerals a couple of months ago and I am dissappointed.
I have trouble skin with acne, not incredible amounts but still, I wanted more coverage than it offered.

Is there anyone else who has found a foundation that really does a good job at making your face appear flawless?

Yes - but it's not Bare Minerals.... I prefer www.everydayminerals.com - because I like more coverage.

When I used Liquid - I was using Revlon.... wth was it called? The one that lasts a long time.... hmmm... cant think...anyways, with a dusting of powder over it.

But I like EM better.

Is it BM? I hate that stuff......

Did you 'exfoliate' before hand? Just scrubbing your face with a washcloth would do the trick.

When you put it on... you swirl it on the brush - but REALLY tap off the extra.... then buff, buff, buff it onto your face.

There is a good youtube video out there. Lemme see if I can find it.

I use everyday minerals and what I do is first apply the finishing powder, then a light coat of foundation. I wait and let it set a bit and then apply a little more foundation until I get the coverage I want. Layering is key and it really does take practice. You don't want to apply too much because that looks worse than none at all.

Yes, it's BareMinerals. I use and Apricot Scrub almost every morning to exfoliate. I've watched a couple of online videos and watched the infomercials to see how it works, but no luck for me.

I think I'll try it out again today and if still no success, stick to liquid! :upsidedow

I love - and I mean LOVE Mac's Fluidline in Black Track.... and I'm plum-out. So - I was going to order some online (for free shipping) and never got around to it this weekend, when I stumbled across that link.

I am HOPING it's quite similar. The reviews for it on makeupalley.com are good. I figured for the price - it would be worth trying.

That being said - I tried a Smashbox one (just like these) and returned it. I hated it.

So, we'll see what happens.

What kind of brush are you using? I dont have a problem with my top lid.... youre doing it after shadow / before mascara, right?

Maybe I should get the smudge pots for that price! Plus it has 2 other colors.

I’ve had my fluidline for maybe 2 years? It’s lasted me a really long time. The brush I have is from MAC and it has very little bristles on it. I don’t remember the number of the brush though. But the last time I tried putting on my top lashes was about the time that I got it. I haven’t tried since then and I’m sure I’ve gotten better. I line my upper and lower lashes with black eyeshadow and a very thin brush after I use my eyeliner just to set it everyday. So I’m sure I’ve gotten better at it, I should try though, huh!? Yes! And I do my eyeliner after my eyeshadow and before mascara. Woo! :)

I's give it another shot. I bet you can do it.

I take some out of the pot, with the brush, and *smoosh* it on the back of my opposite hand. It makes the liner distibute nicely on the brush. Then I kinda *flaten* the brush in the liner - so when I put it on, I have a flat end.... if that makes sense.

And yeah - my fluid line also lasts an extremely long time, and literally is just as good to the last drop, as it is when I first open it. I hear so many people complaining that other pots dry out.

I'm hoping smudge pots is as nice.

Hi back to ya! How's your day?

I'm terrible! I have never had a facial. (Oh man, you guys are getting all my bad secrets!) I have been thinking about it recently. Does it make a big difference in your skin? My wax lady does facials so I have been really thinking of doing it.

I am good d5g, just back from the dentist!!! Beautiful, sunny warm day in the OC so I walked my 5 miles this a.m.!!

I try to go 2x a year!!! Sometimes more and sometimes not 2x!!!!!! Oh, d5g, once you go, you will not stop. My facial tech takes roughly 90 minutes. She combines this awesome scalp and upper arm massage with the facial. In MA the cost was $90.00 plus tip....here in the OC it is $200.00! I love what my face looks and feels like afterwards!!! ::yes::

Never tried a foundation primer. How does it work with mineral makeup? Or does it?

Hi! I have been lurking on this thread for a while- I'm happy I can finally contribute!

I love using foundation primer with my mineral makeup (Everyday Minerals- found out about it here on the DISboards). I use That Gal by Benefit- it is a light pink, shimmery primer that brightens as it prepares the face for foundation. It works a lot like ES primer- makes your foundation go on super smooth and last all day and night with no melting, caking, or ruboff. I have pretty oily skin, and That Gal makes it look great! I use it on my lids, too, and I don't have to use a separate ES primer.

Ive had it done once.... I wasnt too impressed.

Get it done. I think people either love it, or are like me... and you must find out which you are. :)

Hi! :wave2:
I was looking at That Gal at Sephora...I have really oily skin too so I'm always freaked about stuff that will make me shinier or break out. I was using Dr. Feelgood for a while, then switched to the MAC mattifier (neither of which are true primers, they just cut down on shine), but maybe I should check out this foundation primer you speak of! hmmmm.

I actually use primer right now it is sue divitt b/c my friend who buys all the high end stuff and does not use it gave it to me.I then use a light coat of Paula's Choice foundation b/c then I finish with the EM and the finishing powder. It does not cake this way. I have also used the BM and Photo Finish primer which also keeps it from caking.

Cathryn Rose,

Did you get a confirmation on your order on BC? I got an e mail and it said they would send another e mail when it ships. Do you remember how long it said it would take to ship and arrive? I do not wait well, that is why I like to purchase from Cosmetic Magic or Transdesigns they arrive I two days or less and they do not charge for priority shipping. In all honesty I do not want to go back on the site and look b/c I am afraid I will buy more. I told a friend about it she is going to fill her daughter's Easter Baskets with the Stila.

Oh, speaking of Stila I forgot to tell you Queens that I got three Stila lipglosses at Costco for $15.00 this weekend. They had a cool set and a warm set, I got cool. I thought that was a good deal!!!! (And my first Stila product!)

I am definitely going to get some of this foundation primer you gals are talking about. I always feel great when I apply my makeup, but I don't look as good in the afternoon/evening as I do in the morning.

I think I might try a facial sometime too. I would imagine it has to do with how good your home skin care routine is. If you have a fairly extensive routine I bet you don't notice as much difference as if you have a very basic skin care routine. I don't know, just guessing.....

I manage a dental office so watch your dental jokes everybody! :lmao:

I hope your weather will be that nice in a few weeks. We are road tripping it down there for spring break. I can't wait!

Another good facial primer is Philosophy "The Present". I use it when I remember ;) . I too have a problem with foundation sliding off of my face in the afternoon. Since I got the Mac foundation this past weekend, I notice that it has better staying power for the afternoon.

I heard that they were going to have a big Stila blowout soon and requested an email from beauticrunch when it started. The girls on makeupalley love beautycrunch, they say they are legit. One mentioned that they are owned by Stila. But they carry other brands too.

Anyway, this is the email I got.

I never ordered from them but from the sounds of this email, prepare for a wait. I can't stand waiting either, thats why I don't order that much online. I don't like to pay for shipping either, I'd rather spend the money on gas and have it in my hands that night. I don't know why it takes them so long to send stuff out.
