There is actually a rather large boycott against MAC from professional make up artists. You can google MAC boycott or something and read about it.
I don't know about any boycott. Is this recent? I just know whenever I've been visiting my makeup artist friend, (which I try to do often, since I can them oogle the stars :magnify: :yay: ) she and the other MU artists here in NYC almost all use MAC. Every once in a while, there is one who uses something else, usually something they can get a professional MU artist's discount on, but otherwise, it's MAC.

Darn, I am such a Target girl, I can never find time to make it to the mall or Sephora.
I suppose I could buy them online, but that leaves a lot to chance. I will just have to make time. Should be easier when a break comes up.

Anyways, thank you so much for your help! Now I now what brand I have been missing out on! :thumbsup2

You need to go to one of those counters once. Have the gal there help you choose your colors. Once that's done, then you can reorder on line, to your heart's content.

I actually have to have my friend re-do my foundation & concealer color. When she had done it a while ago, I was an undiagnosed severely anemic. After I took my iron supplements for a while, I put on the foundation for the first time in months, and the color, which previously matched my skin perfectly looked horrible. :scared1:

I know the foundation hadn't changed color as it was the same color as the concealer. They both couldn't have gone bad at the same time and both the same color. The iron supplements I have been taking has made my blood redder and more oxygenated which makes my skintone less sallow. :cool1: Once I get her to pick out a new color match for me again, I won't have to think about it again :woohoo:, barring some other unforeseen event.

I don't trust myself to pick out the color as I'm always afraid I'm going to look like those women we've all seen who obviously have the wrong foundation color on  :eek:and no one will tell them. Well, I want my MU artist friend to tell me and help me choose.

Just got back from Sephora with some Lash Injection & the Buxom Babes Amber & Destiny (love the stripper names) Duo. I am such a sheep.

But, DUDE, this gloss is the business! I tried on Destiny first and it's a great color - very natural, but definitely noticable. Amber is a bit lighter and they both have a great shimmer and very great texture to them - and I will admit to not seeing major plumping action, but I do like this very slight tingle! I actually bought the Tarte Rise & Shine gloss & stain stick duo, but as soon as I checked out, I immediately regretted not getting the Buxom so I grabbed this set. Same price ($18) for the two smaller ones as one full sized one while I thought was a great deal. Anyway, I am a huge fan now (already!), so thanks for the endless recs that everyone kept giving.

I haven't tried the LI yet; I just don't feel like washing up & starting my eyes over at 2pm, but I bought the mini size b/c it was just a purchase for our trip to WDW next week...hoping this is as magic as predicted, b/c I do not want to turn into a raccoon after hours of face-melting heat in MK!

Last item on the list...tracking down the Monistat. Either nobody carries this stuff, or all the ladies in my area are buying it out weekly. :rotfl:

Thank you all for all your contributions! I will have to post pics in all my DIS-sponsored glory soon!

Are you talking about LI LASH? Do they have it at Sephora? I have a Sephora Card. Have you used it yet? Dying to find out. It is supposed to work fantastically.

There is actually a rather large boycott against MAC from professional make up artists. You can google MAC boycott or something and read about it. Don't get me wrong. I am a MAC lover, but more for their lip products and eyeshadow. I use their foundation sometimes but there are other foundations I would recommend over it. I love the Make Up Forever HD foundation. It give crazy coverage and once it sets you feel like your not wearing anything. As a make up artist, I would not use MAC foundations on my clients. I usually use Cinema Secrets for a cream foundation (which is recommended by an Emmy winning make up artist, check out http://inmykit.com) or RCMA or Face Atelier. I do love MAC brushes... They are almost the only brand in my kit.

Do you like RCMA? I just cannot figure out what color to get. Have you tried MUD? They have a 20.00 off your purchase code and I think that they do not have a limit so I am thinking you could get a foundation for about 6.00. Again I do not know what color to get.

I know its been going on for some years now. I used to read modelmayhem a lot and talking about MAC was taboo. I'm not really "in" the industry, I just do bridal make up on the side.

It's really thick cream foundation. You really have to warm it up some on your hand or under a light to get to get to smooth on nicely. They also make a thinner you can use with it to use it as a liquid foundation. I don't think I would use it as a daily foundation just because it can be such heavy coverage. Its realllllly pigmented. It works great, I just think it would be too much for daily use. They have a sampler pallet for like $60 or you can just buy individual samples also. I haven't tried any MUD stuff. No help there.

Oooo! That must be fun. :) Probably a bit stressful when the bride first sits down as she's probably been running around all morning,

but when she looks in the mirror after you are done and knows she looks fabulous, it must be really satisfying. :bride: :dance3:

I am just mainly concerned with the breakouts it is suppossed to cause. I have mild acne now, (OH THE JOYS OF BEING A 17 YEAR OLD) so I wouldn't want it to get any worse.

I blame this thread for my trip to Sephora yesterday. I SO don't need any makeup, but I had my 10% off whole purchase coupon (the upside of being a makeup junkie is now i'm a Sephora Beauty Insider VIB) so I figured I'd see what was up. I ended up getting:

  • Benefit "Hello Flawless" powder concealer - figured it was worth a try!
  • Stila Barbie eyeshadow palette - the LAST thing I need is eyeshadow but I'm a sucker for palettes AND Barbie (ask me how many Barbie loves MAC "mothbrown" eyeshadows I have stockpiled...)
  • Givenchy lipstick in Poetique Iris - love this shade and it looked perfect with yesterday's light makeup look (DIY tinted moisturizer, MAC Paint in Bare Canvas, MAC Paint Pot in Perky, MAC Plushlash mascara)
  • Givenchy lip gloss in Rose Taboo - again, so pretty!
  • Shu Uemeura Cleansing Oil

I just wish the Givenchy lipstick didn't have that smell. Like my grandmother's lipstick. A lot of Lancome lipsticks are even worse (Proenza Pink, OMG, it reeked!), though.

While I'm thinking about it, I should update my spreadsheet and then maybe go play with the new stuff. :)

Hello everyone, I need help. I have never been satisfied with any foundation I've tried. I went to Sephora yesterday. They put the makeup forever foundation on me...just didn't do it for me. I then walked around in circles trying this and that. Finally in desperation I bought Stila Illumination foundation. I figured illumination would be good for my 40 year old face. But I don't feel like it gives me enough coverage. I want a foundation that gives good coverage but isn't heavy..Am I asking for too much?

Which Make Up For Ever foundation? Was it the HD foundation? I hated that and returned it - no matter how I applied it, it was awful. I love their Face & Body foundation, though! When I want lighter coverage I put it on with a duo-fiber brush (aka "skunk brush"), but I use a kabuki when I want more coverage.

MAC Studio Sculpt gives amazing coverage but still feels very light. It's a gel formulation, so a tiny bit goes a LONG way, too. I use a paddle-style foundation brush to put it on.

Another one that I love is Chanel Teint Innocence. It's a cream foundation and goes on like a dream. I use a kabuki for this rather than the sponge it comes with, but the sponge is good for spot touch-ups.

(For reference, I'll be 39 in November and I have dry skin.)

Hi Gagirl69! :flower3: I am 43 and I really like the Lancome Renergie Lift Makeup that I got at Macy's. Although it kills me to pay over $40 for foundation, it's worth it to go to the makeup counter and get matched up for foundation. It's so easy to get the wrong color.

Thanks Tara & Miss Park Avenue..Yes, it was the HD. They really push that product in Sephora. I'm going to take the Stila back. I have a few acne scars that I've acquired over the years. That's what I really want to cover up. I wish I knew a good product that would fade them. I did notice the Renergie lift by Lancome in Sephora. I'm going to try that and go to the MAC counter in Dillards. The older you get foundation really makes a difference. Thanks for your help. If ya'll have any other suggestions, please let me know. :flower3:

Happy/sad had an e mail from MAc and did not bother to open it. They had a good deal. You could customize a pallet with 4 colors for 47.oo. I figured if each pan was 14.00 it would cost56 NOT including the pallet. I am so bummed...I opened it after the deal was over. Then again I did not really need it.

Also, upset because I lost my Philosophy concealer I think it fell out of my bag. They just had 15% off and I missed that one too! Anyone know when Sephora might be having their 15% off sale?

Just chiming in here; I have been lurking for awhile. I love the Renergie as well and I am 48. :)

Hubby was off today so I didn't get to take the Stila foundation back. I'm going tomorrow. Will Sephora give me my money back with the receipt? I don't remember seeing MAC in there. I will post after I get home tomorrow. Thanks everybody!!!! This is such a pleasant thread...unlike some others but we won't go there. LOL

Did anyone get the NARS email with this picture in it?

I love how her eyes are done! That's what I always try to do with my liner. Now I've got to get to a stand alone Sephora to try that liner. I wonder what color eyeshadow they have on her?

By the way, the Lip Fusion? Great stuff! Thanks Cathryn. I love the color I got. It's got a stronger sting than the Buxom Lips, but nothing like the twelve milllion bee sting feeling I got from Too Faced.

The natural eye kit from Two Faced is great too. I highly recommend it. Friday I am supposed to get a micro laser peel. Anyone ever have one? I'll let you know how it goes.

Looks like All About Eve and a WHOLE lot of Photoshop to me.

They'll take back anything with a receipt, so you won't have any trouble. Unfortunately, Sephora doesn't carry MAC, unless you're at the Sephora on Champs Elysses, which is DIVINE and HUGE!!!

Sorry - I realized I never introduced myself. I'm Tara, I'm 38 and a total makeup junkie. My makeup inventory spreadsheet is more detailed than my Disney trip planning spreadsheets. I'm slowly making my way through this thread and looking forward to reading more about my favorite worlds colliding. ;)

On the cover of Shape Magazine Jennifer Love Hewitt has on Diorshow mascara. I've been wanting to try this one. Who has tried it? Is it as good as Lash Injection?

BTW I have decided how I feel about Stila mascara. It is good for lengthening, but not thickening.
