The MAGIC is Back!!! - 6th Sept 2014 WBTA - Come & join the fun! - PART 2

Hi!

I am pretty confused! I am new to the disboards and my family is going on this cruise. I am not sure if my posts or PMs are going through. I really, really, really want to be a part of the fish extender group, and just figured out how to sign up. My family has been talking nonstop about it. However, I think I saw somewhere that the deadline was forever ago--way before I even knew we were even going on the cruise. Can my family still participate? I would truly be heartbroken if we couldn't; we have already started planning what our gifts will be.

Thanks,
Aurora

There is one last group being organised, with a cut off date of 9 th August, if you're on Facebook follow the link on the 1st page of this thread, or if you know how pm ( private message) the organiser cdndisneymom and She'll help you get sorted.

Welcome aboard:wave2:

For those of you who signed up for the Veterans' Meet we have some options and I'd like to get your feedback. It has been suggested that we hold the gathering on 9/11. However, this is the day that we will be in Tenerife and many of us will be ashore during the day. All ashore is 1645 and we could meet then but those with early dinner would be rushed. The other option would be to hold the gathering earlier in the cruise. It could an informal gathering at one of the restaurants during the regular lunch hour, it could be just a get-together at O'Gills Pub, or I can arrange a private room with a bartender. Let's hear it!

Michael (Major, USMC (Ret))

I'm pretty flexible about the date for our Veterans' Meet. I do prefer a meeting at O'Gills Pub over lunch or dinner but like I said I am flexible.

Steve and Dani prefer O'Gills Pub over lunch or dinner as well.

Michael, my husband, Charles Simon, is a retired Marine, however I am the spouse who is on DISboards!!! He is at work, for the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. (and can't wait to retire from that job in a few years so we can cruise, cruise, cruise!!!), right now, but I can tell you any of your options would be fine. I do think waiting until Tenerife is too late. If you have enough interest the private room would be fun. And, if you all hit it off, there are spouses who went through the military with you that might like to meet!! Beverly

Bruce says he's open to any of the choices. Knowing him - the pub thing might be the most "his style".

MY opinion is earlier is better than later in the cruise so you have time to see each other around the ship or make more plans.

Beverly - I'd like to meet other military spouses, too.

Beverly, spouses are most welcome! Mine (Michele) will definitely be there.
Where did Charles serve? I did two tours at MCAS El Toro, before it was shut down; most of my career was on the west coast.

My son is the runner in our family. He has done many marathons, and many runDisney events. What can I tell him about the Run Across the Atlantic?

Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen, There are a number of people who are on face book that are up to a challenge to be more active. There have been a lot of discussion since this original post. The person who started the idea is no longer coming on the cruise, but we have kept the idea going. Everyone is at different levels. Some people will be walking the distance, some will be running it, some will be including their everyday steps to get to their distance. Below is what is posted on face book. If you like, I can sign him up. I just need to know the distance that he will be planning to run. I am making medals for the various categories and will be handing these out on the last sea day at 9AM on Deck 4 starboard.

Please sign up below indicating your interest in ANY or all of the running events. Events are completed on the HONOR SYSTEM. You can run/walk/skip/crawl..You can run on deck, treadmill or at a Port of call. The idea is to have fun and make room for all that yummy food and still fit in our clothes!I will create Bibs with your room number as your bib number. If there is more than one person in your room you will be assigned a letter. You will be able to download this and laminate it before you leave home.IF you are interested in finisher medals please also indicate below. I will look into how much they will cost. I will also come up with finisher certificates that you can download once you
get home :)

5K (3.1 miles)
10K (6.2 miles)
1/2 Marathon
RATA Challenge (10k and Half) (19.3 miles)
Full Marathon
Goofy (Half and Full Marathon)
Dopey(5k,10k,Half and Full) (48.6 FABULOUS MILES)

LindaBabe, Are you attending the meet and greet at the Hard Rock Cafe?? maybe we can unofficially plan something there??? Beverly

Most of his career was with the first Marine Division, Camp Pendleton. We finished up with 3 years in Okinawa, Japan, on Camp Kinser. We live in San Clemente, literally walking-distance to Camp Pendleton!! We are very excited to meet you all!! Beverly

Hey, "Relaxin'"

I told my son about this great event. He is definitely interested. Please sign him up for the Dopey and a finisher medal. I'll send you a PM with his info.

Thanks much,
Karen

I spent 1 year in the 1st Marine Division - 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. We also spent 3 years in Okinawa - '93 to '96 - at Camp Foster. Then the Corps sent us to Orlando for my "twighlight tour" and here we stayed.

If there is anyone that is interested in joining the Run Across the Atlantic Challenge, you are more then welcome to sign up by sending me a PM. I will do my best to continue making medals until August 31, as long as I have time and supplies. This is a personal challenge, not a race. It was started by someone on FaceBook who is no longer going on the cruise, and before I knew I was offering to create medals for those who signed up. I have made over a 100 medals and still making them as more people sign up. Note: there are bibs that were created and there is a file on FB. If anyone is interested, I can email you the template. At this point, I do not think anyone has volunteered to make certificates. I do know that someone was thinking about make shirts, but I have not heard anything recently.

Small world...we were at Kinser from 95-98, hubby had been there from 94. That was his twilight tour as we were going back to SanClemente!! Beverly

Our son is turning two on the cruise and we were thinking about having a small party on board during one of the earlier sea days. Probably in one the reception rooms with a cake and maybe a special guest. We were just wondering if any families with toddlers would be interested in coming. We kind of thought that maybe this would be a good way to meet some families with small kids too. Our son will probably be spending some time in the nursery and we would love it if he maybe had some familiarity with other toddlers.
