If you stay at DVC you can add the dining plan at full cost for stays of 3 days or more. You do not need to purchase the 1 day tickets.

Now I have a question. Is it really cheaper to stay at DVC, or do you really mean you get a better value? I always look up the number of points need for our stay and multiply by $10 (which is the going rate to rent points, right???) and it comes out to WAY more that a regular room at the same resort. So what am I doing wrong? Walk me through this. I am afraid to ask on the DVC boards :rotfl: I really want to stay at DVC at some point. My hope is to addict Mr. Silly to it ::evil grin

Haley,

Sorry for the delay in answering...I just got out of a REALLLLLY long meeting. Anywho, I think that the bottom line is that staying in a DVC resort is a lot cheaper if you rent points vs. book through Disney. I also think it's a bit cheaper than the deluxe resorts. Obviously, if you go for Coronado Springs or one of the mids, it'll work out less, but I love the convenience and ambience of the deluxes, especially the Epcot resorts. (Sorry, PolyJenMom and Sheri...I've never been a big fan of the Poly...though I've never stayed there either, so maybe that's why!!) I'm awaiting a Dreams Unlimited quote now to see what the price diff. is if I stay in WL - regular hotel room - vs. renting points for a studio. Since it's just the 2 of us, I don't care as much about the kitchen/extra space. I still suspect, though, that it'll be more.

So you can get free dining even if you're not a DVC member, but a renter? I thought it was only available to members, with a "DVC Member Card".

MarkyMark, I, like GAcat, am a very political person (though on the other end of the spectrum). But you know I love you, so I will refrain from commenting on your 1st post. Except... :rolleyes2 As far as the other posts, well.....funny, but I still enjoyed hooP's poop story more - no offense :teeth:

Disclaimer: I've never been on the DDP (I will be in October though!), so I may or may not know what the heck I'm talking about.

If I understand correctly, there are purple dots on the menu boards, etc. to denote DDP snack items. As of yesterday, a LOT of new snack items have been added, so there lots more purple dots.

There is even talk that the Dole Whip is a snack item now. I'm thinkin' that may be an urban legend. Time will tell!

HTH!

Where can I find said "menu boards"? I usually just look at the menus on allears.

New snack items? intriguing . . .

Thanks SNAP! I get it now!

(you're talking about the actual menu boards at WDW, right??)

I thought a bottle of water for a snack on the DDP was a good deal.

Now maybe so many choices. I'll just hang on the other boards for updates.

Susan - Renter's can get the DP. You pay when you check in. I have already added for October - no problem. Once you have your confirmation # you can call and add it yourself, you don't even need the person from whom you rented to be involved at that point.

But can you get the FREE dining???

Alright alright already. I'll leave the political stuff for another place. As I said I was just trying to stir up stuff. Thought it might be fun. But I'll leave my political thoughts to myself. And some folks had already mentioned Boortz and that's what made me think of it.

Oh well. On to more stories of poop, thongs and 80's.

Just not all at the same time.

Blessings!

I hate to interrupt the merriment with a fairly serious post but I thought it would be good to remind everyone that they need to be careful about posting personally identifying information about themselves or others on this board.

Ok, you can now return to the non-serious stuff :thumbsup2

Good points there. I know I divulged quite a bit here (where I'm from, etc), but most of my info is already out there. Between personal webpages, positions on Boards of Directors and university Senates where the minutes are public record, and a few minutes on a game show, and there ain't much that I can hide. Luckily I haven't had any problems with it, especially since I may throw my hat in the political realm one of these days.

I did have some fun, however, a few years back when someone with the same rare name as me was sentenced to prison over in Ohio...that's gotta throw the stalkers for a loop once in a while.

LOL Mush! There's a guy with my same name who is the police chief in the town where my prents grew up. I figure we're related somehow. But I'm hoping that if somebody wanted to stalk me - not that they would - that they'd go after him and his gun! LOL.

I did get a W2 once from another guy with my name from a security company in atlanta. It was weird. How they got my address and such I'll never know. Thankfully the Social Security number on it was not right.

Blessings!

Susan,

If you are a DVC member or just a renter you can get the Dining Plan BUT you have to pay for it. NO free dining for DVC. It's $39 per day per adult and $12 per day per child. But sometimes even if you figure in that you are paying for the dining plan it still may come out cheaper than paying rack rate and getting the free dining. Did that make any sense?

I just searched my name. Apparently I'm also a disc jockey of some reknown, an attorney, and a paid federal informant. Hmmm. I sound pretty interesting. And y'all thought all I did was preach!

Blessings!

From what I gather, they are the menu boards in the park. There's also a PDF file of the DDP brochure/booklet available on a Disney yahoo group (will the mods let that through?) that I belong to. My understanding is that Disney hasn't issued a new brochure yet, so it doesn't have the new snacks listed.

There's a thread over on the DDP board about the new snacks. New Snack Thread

THANK YOU....I finally get it!! (It sometimes takes awhile, but I catch on eventually :teeth: )

So I ran the numbers, and, you're right, it still looks cheaper for me to rent DVC, pay for the dining plan, and buy only the tix I need. It works out to about $1400 or so vs. the $1900 or so via Disney. So what do all you DDPers think? Is it worth it for me to pay for it? This IS an adults only trip, so I think if I ever do it, this would be the time. Opinions??

THANKS SNAP!!!!

I was about to start begging for a link. I used to lurk on Restaurants and DDP, but haven't since, oh, around the first of March (coincidentally, I think that's around the time that this thread got started?)

spectrum_turbo--> i hope your kids feel better soon about the hampster and i would have done the same thing you all did about the dog :) it's amazing howmuch the little ones really know! BTW i love the name 47 hahaa..so cute!

We took Autumn to the WORLD when she was 9months old and last month there was a commercial on about WDW and they had a shot of the castle on the TV and Autumn started dancing and jumping up and down and said 'agin' (again) it was soo cute we cried (we're dorks i know!)

Anyone cathc Todays Dr. Phil??? about the overbearing mother?!!? YIKES i would just shoot myself!

Susan -
DH and I were on DDP last year (for free dining) on an adults only trip. It got me hooked (we're renting DVC and paying for dining this year). It is A LOT of food, though. However, if you want to eat signature, now is the time to do it. I thought it was wonderful to not worry about only ordering a less expensive entree, etc., and tried some things that I might not have if I had been "paying" for it. (Of course, I really was paying for it, but it didn't feel like it - the wonder of Disney marketing.)
All this to say, I would try it at least once, and it is probably easier to do so without kids there, so this seems like the perfect time!

Thanks Amy! I just spoke with DH and I think we'll probably go for it! $80 a day for the two of us, considering Disney food prices, sounds like a good deal to me. :thumbsup2 And, although it should, the idea of A LOT of food doesn't intimidate me in the least :teeth:

MUSH!! What game show were you on? I'm curious!

Haven't y'all been a busy and chatty bunch today!

I'm too hot (a/c wise) to type any more while at work today. It's affecting my brain. Sooooo tired is Tink.

I'm off to pack clothes and bring a couple of carloads to the new house.

I'll be back later . With some rather distressing news. (Don't worry. Nobody's sick or dead or dying, so chill out!)

Tink OUT.
