Hmmm, slow tonight. Everyone on dates again?
I'm back from the political fundraiser. Our fine governor is ahead in the polls, but it is obviously very early. I needed to go for a number of reasons:
1. I really like this governor and want him re-elected.
2. My good friend and co-worker is being considered for a judgeship, and can't give money to the governor's campaign b/c of the potential judgeship, but wanted to go to the shindig, so I treated for some barbeque.
3. I am a trooper for my party and like to show up at all the rallies.
We saw all the local bigwigs (again, many of the same that I saw yesterday in our luncheon) and there was a huge turnout from the community. The governor is from our community, after all, so you sort of expect it. We mingled, we drank sweet tea (since the governor is a Southern Baptist), and we patted each other on the back. The governor arrived with moderate fanfare and shook hands, kissed babies, and danced with children. Did I say that I love this governor? I do.
My friend and I were inadvertently between the governor and the shade, so were privileged with a handshake. (Truth be told, he saw us, passed, figured out who my friend was, turned around and came back upon recognizing my friend. I was a bystander that also got a handshake. Either that or he thought it would be impolite to mow us down on the way to the shade. It was a titch warm here today.)
A little later he gave a fine, and unexpectedly long, speech. I love this governor. I do. He is honest, and fair, and honorable, and REAL. And his wife is a peach, through and through.
That was my day. I came home to two screaming kids in the bathtub, crying for me, which would be heartwarming if it wasn't so heartbreaking. Apparently they didn't want to leave the playdate, fell asleep about 10 minutes from home, and had to be awakened for baths b/c they were filthy from digging in the dirt. Poor kids, neither got a nap today, but are both out hard now.
Anyone else around?
