Great. No, really. Thanks for that. Now I know what will be in my nightmares tonight. A subserviant chicken. How special.

Polymelonmom I always remember this little saying when people are giving advice. I cleaned it up a little

"Opinions are like bottoms everyone has one and most of them stink"

Just remember that most people that went into that field (psychology) did so in order to try to figure themselves out. Don't let the crazies get to you!

Are you in that field? I think you know I am and I have to respectfully disagree with you on that. Sorry, mumbler, can not let this go by. :teeth: It was bad enough that the media furthers that stereotype. Like the sicom Norm-the shrink that slept with his clients? This has not been my experience, although there certainly are individuals who were drawn to it for their own issues, Most is not accurate, I think.

I actually think people are more grounded when they learn more about themselves. I have many many many friends and colleagues in the field and some of them are the most grounded people I have ever met. It is far unhealthier to run from your actions, and repeat the cycle over and over.
I went into the field because a professional really helped me understand the impact of several terrible things that happened to me. I was not given the tools to know how to deal with them by my family. I also went into the field to get clinical theory behind my work with big corporate egos, as I had my own business working with fortune 500 bigwigs.

It is a very powerful tool to understand all of you! I got most of your numbers! Heh heh :smooth:

FWIW, everyone, I do not analyze outside of my office-not my friends, family, the person in the checkout line or here. I definitely leave my theory there. I have said several times, I am here for me! This is my therapy-laugh therapy is definitely something I am into!

I want to say, that the reason I like most of you so much, is your lack of judgement and criticisim of others, your positive view of people and life, your ability to laugh at yourselfs and yes, others, and your willingness to discuss life with people very different than you. The very charming young gal that started this thread is the model of that, yes you Hauntie! And the tone you set has attracted some very like minded people.

Not much levity and brevity here, sorry folks. Perhaps I am feeling a wee bit sad about leaving you all for a week.

Sorry for the mostly seriousness here guys, I have many sides..tool on me all you want! :)

LYMI, mumbles, I am not picking on ya! Just needed to respond. :goodvibes But I can if you want me to NANANA B00-B00!

Especially if you've actually seen how they do it. And yes, I have. I used to be a vet tech.

Good morning, everyone - I have 2 completely different things bothering me this morning, so who better to turn to?!

1. My DH called me from work and told me he got the results of the sleep study his dr. ordered, and they want him to start sleeping with some kind of machine because they think he has sleep apnea. What I'm wondering is, why did it take them a month and a half to tell him - if it was really that serious, don't you think they would've let him know a lot sooner? And does anybody have experience with any of this? I can't imagine how someone can sleep better with a machine strapped to their face.

2. Completely unrelated - we have cable high-speed internet at home, and this weekend we got a router and a wireless card so I could use my laptop downstairs, or while DH is on the desktop computer. They both say they're capable of 54 Mbps, whatever that is. But here's the problem: I very often have little or no signal strength, or it'll work for awhile, then I'll click another page and it'll give me page not found, or cannot load page, something like that. Like I have no internet signal. I know nothing about wireless internet or even what our problems could be - anybody out there have any advice? I'm wondering if I'd bought a more expensive/powerful router/wireless card if that would've made a difference? We live in a fairly small two-story townhouse, so I don't think I'm very far away from the router - at least not as far as I could be in a bigger home. Sooooo, if you know anything about wireless internet, would you mind helping me diagnose my problem? B/c now I'm addicted to it, but it's so frustrating when it doesn't work!

OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

where the hello did the edit feature go?!!!!!!!!!!! I see you all like to do this, and if I should ever post, I would like to post correctly.

OK, I can address this one, and I'll try to do it without going into TMI territory.

I had big time sleep apnea before I lost a lot of weight (200+ pounds), and I slept with a CPAP machine for a short while. The results of my sleep study were truly alarming...I had no idea what kind of danger I was in just by falling asleep.

The machine took some getting used to, but it helped tremendously. Before the CPAP, it was a constant struggle to stay awake, and I even fell asleep in my car once while waiting for the red light to change to green. I was "sleeping" 10 hours a night but I was always sleepy.

Anyway, once the weight started coming off, the sleep apnea went away, and I no longer need the machine. I will say that getting used to the machine took some doing, but the benefits were enormous.

Good luck to your DH...if you have any questions, I'm glad to answer if I can.

They are Exchange by Charles David (So I am going to have to save up for them!!) I totally think green would rock!!!

And I can answer the router one. In most cases it is probably because of a conflict with something else on the PC. Believe it or not, I had this problem on my DD's Dell PC a few years ago. It turned out to be a conflict with the sound card. Try the wirleless card in different slots (sometimes there are not seated right) and then if no difference take out anything else in a slot and just try the wireless card. Also if the PC has a regular network card in a slot along with the wireless card that could cause a onflict.

Chris, I'll PM you some DVC info tonight when I'm home. I own at BCV and BW. :)

I experienced the conflict problem when I first installed my wireless card, but in that case, I could never get the computer to recognize the wireless card. Turned out, both the router and the ethernet card wanted to use the same address, so I had to reconfigure the wireless card to a different address (I have no clue how -- I called tech support, they walked me through it, and bam, 5 green bars -- thanks Lynksis). I was actually thinking the problem might be something more prosaic -- you said the router was upstairs, and you're using the wireless computer downstairs. One thing someone told me once is that wireless routers project signals up and out, but not so much down. I have no idea if that's true, but if so, it could be that there's hit and miss on the signal. To test, maybe try using the laptop upstairs and see if the signal strength is better and if you stop getting dropped. If so, then you've identified the problem, and the solution is to get a repeater for downstairs (which will boost the signal). Just a thought.

Hey everybody! Things are hop-hop-hoppin' here at the office today, but I have to tell this story. Sort of combines the topic of nasty judgmental people (for Melons) and "tutoring" (for Chapter 11).

When dh and I got our first dog, he was a little golden/collie mix, he came from the shelter. I think he was an "oops" where a breeding ***ch got into it with someone not her own kind. So the breeder dumped all the puppies at the shelter because they weren't "pure." Whatever, he was cute so we got him. Signed all the papers promising to have him "tutored" and paid our $65 bucks and he was ours!

Well the day that he went in for the appt, there was a lady there with a couple of floofy looking fancy shmancy show dogs. I have nothing against, this, I guess, some people really like showing their dogs and doing that whole thing. We were happy if our dog didn't chew up the couch. Again.

So this lady with her show (off) dogs hears that we've brought lil Clancy in for his tutoring, and goes off on dh. "HOW could you do that to such a beautiful animal, that changes them," bla bla bla. She would NEVER do that to her Fifi and Foofoo they are such handsome animals, pedigree, blabity bla.

DH (he's good in these situations ... I never think of a good response until an average of 7 1/2 hours later) looks straight in her eye and says, "Well since I RESCUED him from the shelter, I guess he's better off alive with no nuts than dead with them. And we'd NEVER spend $1000 to have a designer dog when we can put that money to better use saving other animals who need saving."

The look on her face was priceless.

The 56 Mbps is the maximum data transfer rate between any two devices on your internal home network. The maximum data transfer rate to the internet will be significantly less than that and is limited by your ISP.

The effective range of your wireless connection is mainly dependent on what is between your laptop and the router. Wood and sheetrock don't have much of an effect but metal and concrete do. The placement of the router can also impact the effective distance.

Do you have a good wireless signal strength when you have the laptop in the same room where the router is located with nothing in the line of sight between the router antenna and the laptop?

Does changing your location in other parts of the house affect the signal strength?

Also do you use 2.4GHz cordless phones or any other 2.4GHz devices?

Thanks to everybody who's helping me out with the router problem - so, in no particular order, I'll try to answer:

Yes, I just came upstairs and am on the laptop right next to the router, adn I have "Excellent" signal strength. I never get anything better than "Very good" downstairs, and it's usually just "Low." I don't think there are any other cards I can see in my laptop, and there's only one slot to insert a wireless card into, so I'm not sure about removing other things, but I have tried removing and reinserting the wireless card, adn it doesn't seem to have any effect.

I've noticed it works better in one part of my living room vs. another - where it works better is directly below the room in which the router is located. And yes, we have 2.4GHZ cordless phones - I think 3 of them. Can they affect my signal?

Anyway, someone (I'm sorry, I don't remember who) said something about a repeater. I have no idea what that is, but if it'll increase my signal strength downstairs I'm all for it - can I just find it on the best buy website, probably?

And SNAP , thanks for the info. I think it's possible my DH's is weight-related, adn I'm hoping the dr. might suggest such on THursday at our appt with him, but both you and Grammy (thanks for the pm's) have let me know he will be able to adjust to it and will definitely sleep better, which is the main thing. So thanks for the information and support!

Is DH the meanest daddy in the world?

Funny. My dad used to show poodles, but only very briefly. Trust me, reputable breeders still fix the animals that they don't deem "show" worthy - they don't want undesirable traits passed on either. Most will sell those dogs as "pet quality" with a stipulation that they be fixed. But we never spent a fortune on dogs. Although dad did complete a couple before they were a year old and sell them, trying to make a fortune - one to someone in Japan to start a kennel there. He even showed in Westminster (I think I mentioned that previously?)

I fixed my golden retriever, but have to agree that mutts generally are more even-tempered and better natured than most purebreds. If you're not going to breed them, FIX them!

off my spay/neuter soapbox. sorry.

Frickles -- speaking of kittys, I thought of you this morning as I was dropping off my 4 month-old kitty at the vet to get, ummm, "tutored". And had a hankering for a Pop-Tart. There Horseyponygirl -- analyze that.

Hey 11! I am glad that sweet little things like cute kitties and pop tarts made you think of me! My avatar is a little whack, I know, but it has to give you the warm fuzzies now doesn't it?!?! Of course when I see Star Wars and Big Chickens, I think of you. ;)

Pongo - you be stylin girl!

Horsegirl - Have an awesome trip!!! You will certainly be missed!
)))))SLAP((((((

Hey I got one of my tags by being taken for a ride to get "tutored".

And BTW, I guess I fit the description of a designer dog so I know someone who is going to be in a real fowl mood because he told me to come out of lurkdom and post for all of his friends here. :snooty:
