The LUCKY Muffin Spoke to Me - Halloween at WDW & Summer 2011 at DLR - 01/09/11

Sorry work is so stressful and hectic right now! On a positive note-- it was lovely meeting your furbabies!! Your Wendy is absolutely beautiful! She looks adorable wrapped up in her little blanket! The stories about your cat are honestly just heartbreaking. I don't understand how people can be so disgusting and cruel. Have you ever seen the Butterfly Effect with Ashton Kutcher? GUT WRENCHING scene-- I attempted to watch the movie once and had to avert my eyes and eventually leave the room. I really cannot stand to watch anything that has to do with animal abuse. Too hard :-(
Awhile, my mom tried adopting a dog from a shelter. It was just incredibly violent and attacked everyone, so she had to give him back. It was terribly sad, because we knew his violence wasn't really his fault-- he must have had a terrible young life that made him feel he constantly had to be on the defensive.
My wonderful Daisy Lou that I had for over half my life (took her with me when DBF and I got a place) recently passed away-- she was a basset hound and just the most wonderful diva princess in the world. She had my mom and I wrapped around her little paw. She was just the most wonderful little doggy in the world and losing her (she came into our room, fell asleep, and didn't wake up) is the hardest thing that's ever happened to me. I definitely understand thinking of your animals as your children-- they're just as vulnerable and totally rely on you. Daisy had such a presence in our house and to have that gone is still unbelievable.

The story about Meeko and his stick is so cute :lmao: My best friend has three cats and one of them thinks he's a dog. He actually plays fetch with little toy mice! I'm thinking about buying him something from the pet things they sell at Disney :)

Yeah, she was extremely thin. She has anxiety issues and hates being alone. Since I have an air conditioner in my room, when my parents were out of town, I kept my door open, but hung a blanket there so that she could come in whenever she wanted to. It's still there because otherwise she headbutts the door until I let her in :lmao: But when we first got her, she literally got up and followed us if we left her alone in a room. She's very loved here, and she knows it :)

Oh, btw, I sent you a PM with pictures of that computer bag I told you about. Did you get it?

Meeko thinks he's a child; he's got a toy box where he'll take one toy out of, play with it, then put it back. Stick is the only toy that stays out at all times, but other than that, he cleans up after himself. Pets are TOO funny!

Awww; that's so sweet about your fur baby!

I just checked my PMs today and wrote you back! :goodvibes

I love all of your animals! That story about Baby breaks my heart. :sad1: I almost couldn't read the whole thing but I made myself, I seriously cannot deal with animal cruelty stories, even if I don't know the animal or didn't see it for myself. My DH told me the saddest story last week about a puppy he saw once that was a runt and ended up dying...this was YEARS ago, when he was a kid and I was traumatized all week thinking about this poor runt.

Your Meeko reminds me of my Nina:

IMG_0093.jpg

:lovestruc Same coloring and little raccoon tail! I always talk about her little raccoon tail to her! She is my baby, she likes my DH, but she is my kitty. In the winter, she sleeps under the covers with me! I have 2 other cats who I love just as much, but like I said, Nina is my baby! She's a rescue as well...actually, all 3 of my cats are! :goodvibes I looked for a really cute picture of Nina, but I couldn't find a good one! She is so ridiculous, I swear she knows what a camera is because it's almost like she makes faces so she can't take a good picture! :confused3 :rotfl:

I hope your babies are ok after their vet visit! :goodvibes Wendy is so cute...I want a Cavalier soooo bad...but i don't think my cats would allow me to get a dog! :)

I can not stand hearing about animal abuse; it's awful. I just don't get those people; you know that one commercial that plays that song "I will remember you, will you remember me.." (I believe)? As soon as the song starts and it shows that sad dog's face, I change the channel and still tear up. I can't watch the commercial! (I can't even tell you what it's for; I think maybe a dog food that donates to a national humane society? But, I can't get through the commercial to find out.)

Awww; Meeko needs a girlfriend!

Baby and Meeko don't like Wendy, but they're learning to deal with her. I've wanted one for a long time, and we almost walked away from her the day we found her at a trade days fair, but something about her was pulling me back. She definitely needed me! I know that the breeder would've just killed her if we hadn't brought her home; her vet bills to save her were insanely high. We tried to call the breeder for help with compensation, and her response was "I'm not paying the vet bills, but you can bring her back for another dog."

Uhm? You want me to trade in my child? Would you do that to your children?? People are ridiculous and so many of them shouldn't be allowed to breed dogs!

Wendy swaddles herself in blankets all the time. Well, not now since it's 105* outside every day, but during the winter, she has to have a blanket at all times. She's known for theft.

I'm sorry to hear about your Daisy Lou!! Saying goodbye to a pet is SO hard. My parents have had pets since I was born, so I've lost several of my life long pets over the last few years too. We just lost one (Sassy) earlier this year and another (Buddy) last year. It's such a terrible feeling and I still tear up over them quite often!

Hopefully you all won't think we're nuts, but we actually had Sassy and Buddy cremated. Our vet suggested it and we trust him so much that we took his advice; it might sound weird, but it helped us heal a bit. They're in two pretty, little boxes on the window ledge in my parent's laundry room. My mom still stays good morning to them when she goes through there every day; I promise we're not crazies, but it's a bit soothing knowing that they're still in the house. I have several co-workers and friends that had the same thing done when they lost their fur babies, and they all say the same thing.

OK - back to studying...wooo!!

BTW ----

I'm taking a (LSAT) prep course, which is what I've been using to study too. (I literally have a box full of books that came with the course; it's overwhelming to say the least!)

But, most of the material is just dull/incessantly boring.

This morning, though, I was working through a tutorial over yesterday's class, and there was an example (written by the company of course, unfortunately the subject matter wouldn't be on the actual LSAT) about Disneyland and Space Mountain.

It might have to do with the lack of sleep, but I laughed a good few minutes and was talking to myself about why the argument was flawed. Sure enough, every thing that I came up with on my own was exactly what they were looking for answer wise. The instructor said something about how you surely couldn't come up with every correct assumption, but here they are anyway as an example of what you are to be looking for; uhm, sorry lady, but I DID come up with every correct assumption, but not for the reasons you just told me, but because it's an AWESOME topic to sit and think about!

Too bad the LSAT won't have any WDW material! Bah-humbug!

I love all your pictures of your babies! It's so nice to meet people that feel that same way I do about animals! I hate that animal abuse is now considered a felony but people still don't take it seriously. Last year, we discovered that there was a kid in the neighborhood where the rabbit shelter is that we volunteer for, that was killing stray cats. He was like 13 or something. We started having to lock the shelter door all the time because we were terrified this kid might do something. They finally caught him but I don't remember what happened to him. Probably nothing.

There was another case a few years ago where some kids poured gasoline on a rabbit and set it on fire. They went to juvenile prison I think.

And I am one of those people who STILL boycotts anything relating to Michael Vick and I'm still mad at the NFL for taking him back. If someone had children and raised them specifically for the purpose of fighting each other and killing each other, and they tortured and killed the ones that were deemed "unworthy", wouldn't those people probably spend the rest of their lives in jail? I just don't understand why a human life is worth more than an animal life. :confused3 My pets have never talked behind my back, lied to me, or betrayed my trust. Wish I could say the same for half of the people I've met. :sad2:

We have both always had cats and when we moved into our own place, I decided I didn't want one. Now I really miss having one! We were thinking about adopting one when we come back from Disney. Maybe for Christmas...

Maybe I'll post some pics of my babies on my TR. I do have a plot twist regarding the dog that concerns the trip...

All of your fur babies are so lucky to have you for a mommy! :lovestruc

When I read the story about Meeko's stick I was in tears! Poor Baby, it's terrible that such a sweet kitty is so traumatized because some jerk abused her. But she is in good hands now! :goodvibes

I am so sorry I didn't get online last night to chat. I have some kind of nasty cold and I went to bed around 8:30 last night to try to sleep it off. It actually helped, so I'm feeling a lot better!

i love all your fur babies! we aren't really cat people, plus DH is allergic, so all we have our dogs- 2 boston terriers, now 11 yo. they are sisters and so sweet. So I totally know how they become your family and your 'children' too! I just love your little pup too- adorable!!!

and OMG, that 'cat fight' sounds so scary. so did the makeup cover up all the bruises and scratches from it? I would have totally freaked seeing them fight like that.

Helloooo!!

I have been so behind. First of all I want to send pixie dust your way for the DH. I hope he can find a position somewhere soon!

I LOVED reading about the fur babies!! I they are just too cute for words. I love love love the labs, and Wendy is too cute. Baby's story broke my heart, and it's amazing that you two made an instant connection. That story about Meeko is so funny...how silly is it that he plays with a stick like a dog!!

Don't you love when Disney just pops up randomly in things you aren't wanting to do? Last week in my 9am News Writing class, the professor used a story about Donald Duck at WDW and suddenly I was wide-awake!

Hope your LSAT studying is going well. I'm sure it is toughhhh! It will be so great when you can toss the books and head down to WDW :cloud9:

Being an animal lover also, I loved the pictures of all your pets!!! Great to hear that your "baby" doesn't have the dreaded C-word

Oh, I could not agree more! My mom says "I'll take animal over people any day" ALL the time. I know some people don't understand if they aren't animal people, but like you said, my pets have never broken my heart or stabbed me in the back.

I don't understand how people can be so cruel; if you're willing to hurt an innocent animal, what in the world would you do to another human being when they make you angry?? I interned at a DA's office my senior year and saw a LOT of very sad stories about animal abuse that involved kids. I don't even want to think about what those kids are going to be like as adults!!

You should go rescue a kitten after your trip!!!! He/she can be pen pals with my kitties!

I always tell people my kids are hairy, and it won't change for quite some time. I don't have plans to have kids until a few years out of law school, so I'll be mid-30s by then!

Actually, here's a not so funny story. My makeup artist did a GREAT job covering up the bruises that were still on my arms, but during pre-ceremony pictures, I bent down to snuggle my adorable ring bearer, came back up, and heard all of my bridesmaids and my mom gasp. I FREAKED. Sure enough, where I'd bent down and put my arm on my dress was a big smear of make-up.

Thankfully, the coordinator at our venue and the coordinator my mom had hired with the catering company were both life savers! They jumped in together and got the make-up off my dress, and we decided to just go with the bruises, so my (sore) arm had to be scrubbed to get the professional makeup off. It ended up that my veil covered everything for the ceremony, and our reception hall was pretty dark, so you couldn't see anything after I took off my veil.

The funny part was walking in to the airport the next day (and, around WDW) with shorts on, and bruises all over my thighs and arms. I told DH people were going to think he beats me. He didn't think it was too funny though, but I did get some looks!

That's too funny about your professor! I always get excited when WDW pops up in random stuff, but no one else shares in my excitement (which is why I'm thankful for the DIS!)

I'm going to BURN these LSAT books on October 10!

Aw! Thanks for sharing the picture of your new baby! Where did you get him??

Maybe we'll run in to you on the 26th!

I love your babies!! People ask me how many children I have and I tell them 2, both of which are four legged and furry! They usually do a double take or say "what?". Then it clicks and they laugh. Its amazing how bad some people treat animals. Both of mine are Pomeranians and have 'history'. My oldest was this little dog around a bunch of Rocks and was pregnant. Needless to say, once we got her she decided she was queen and acts like it!!! My little baby original owner was going to just turn him out because he barked at her grandbaby….he weighed about 3 lbs and he just a week or so from leaving his mother!! How do you do that to a dog? :confused3

wow on the wedding and makeup! i would have freaked! so glad it worked out in the end. i bet no one saw a thing and heck, for pictures, they can photoshop! lol at getting some looks at the airport. :rotfl:

hope your studying is going well- are you enjoying the new macbook?

oh and no rush on the kids.....i didn't have William until i was 34. We wanted to get out of school, get our careers going, get a nice house and all that before we had kiddos. I know- there is 'never a right time', but that is how we are.

Hey everyone! Thanks for continuing to hang in here with me!! I was hoping to have some spare time this week to check out everyone's PTR and get up-to-date, but it's been another roller coaster of a week.

We had our Race for the Cure fundraiser Tuesday, and while everything looked fantastic and was beyond organized, it just didn't go as we'd hoped. I know the economy is still not great, but it's just hard to think about these organizations (like Race for the Cure, Relay for Life, Humane Society, etc.) that are suffering so much because of it.

A friend of mine (that I've known since we were 18 months old) said goodbye to her dad on Wednesday; in the way they've been wording it, he won his fight with brain cancer and is finally at rest in his real Home.

My momma and I are going to the celebration of life today, and then I've gotten a bit behind on studying this week, so I'll be spending this weekend playing a lot of catch-up.

We changed part of our WDW ressie a few weeks ago, but I just haven't had time to come update.

We added on the QSDP; we've decided it's a great deal for us this time since we were planning on mostly QS and the F&W booths anyway. But, with DH getting laid off at the other job and the fact that all of our meals are covered with this new plan, we decided to cancel two of our (three) ADRs.

We will not be going to Sci-Fi or Chefs this trip; so, no typical burger or Remy, but I'm completely OK with it. (I'm just appreciative that I have something to look forward to after the difficult last few weeks, and knowing how much stress I have coming up with my test and applications.)

We kept Boma since that was the one we are really, really looking forward to trying before we spend some free time at the resort.

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend, and please remember to cherish the people in your life! You never know what the next day might bring.

:grouphug:

Hey cutie!

Great to see your planning is going strong!

Isn't it great how planning a trip can make you "forget" all the negatives in your life for a little bit?

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's dad, but I am glad that he is in his Home and free from any pain. I hope that the celebration of his life was uplifting and offered some closure for his family and friends. My prayers are with all of you!

I can't wait to hear your review of Boma...we are trying it in December and I'm excited!!

Today is my dad's birthday so we are at my parents' house for the day, but I will be home tonight and online some. Hopefully we can catch up!

I'm glad you had a second to check in - I've been wondering how you've been! :goodvibes I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's dad and the turn out for the event. It sounds like the QSDP is a good decision for your trip - if there's ever a time to not worry about ADR's, it's F&W time! :thumbsup2

Ken and I will be at MNSSHP on the 26th too! We're going to have dinner at Tony's.

Such a cute baby! :goodvibes

We'll be at the party on the 26th too so maybe we'll see you there!

Oh, I could not agree more! My mom says "I'll take animal over people any day" ALL the time. I know some people don't understand if they aren't animal people, but like you said, my pets have never broken my heart or stabbed me in the back.

I say it all the time, too. I wish I could be a professional animal shelter volunteer. If I could clean cages, and socialize animals for 8 hours a day, every day, and actually get paid for it...I'd be the happiest person alive. There are a few places I've checked that I've seen jobs like this available, but they are either too far away or pay like $9 an hour (I currently make twice that), or both. It's so disheartening.

It's a proven fact that people who abuse animals eventually turn to other forms of abuse and turn it on people. So if you kill your neighbors cat, you get a max of 3 years and a fine. But then when you are released, if you go ahead and kill your neighbor, you get 25 to life and everyone makes a big deal about how "well he/she was previously convicted of animal cruelty." DUH! Where did you think this was going to go!? :confused3

You should go rescue a kitten after your trip!!!! He/she can be pen pals with my kitties!

We're considering it...but Parsley is really bad about chasing things.....

The funny part was walking in to the airport the next day (and, around WDW) with shorts on, and bruises all over my thighs and arms. I told DH people were going to think he beats me. He didn't think it was too funny though, but I did get some looks!

Between the dog and the rabbits, I always look like I've either been beaten within an inch of my life, or like I've tried to kill myself. It sounds horrible, but I'm always covered in bruises and scratches from the dog (she's into hitting people when they ignore her  ), and the rabbits always manage to scratch me really badly down my arms so it looks like cut wounds. I get a lot of stares in the grocery store and stuff when people see my arms.

That's too funny about your professor! I always get excited when WDW pops up in random stuff, but no one else shares in my excitement (which is why I'm thankful for the DIS!)

I'm in the same boat! Whenever it comes up randomly, I always feel the need to invite myself into other people's conversations but I try really hard to keep my mouth shut!

:confused3

I got into an argument with a girl at work one day because she kept talking about making rabbit for dinner. Everyone at my job knows that I volunteer for a rabbit rescue and I have 8 of my own rabbits. Someone told her that was disgusting and to stop bringing it up, and she said that she was only saying it to get a reaction out of me. So I asked her "If I told you I was going to go home and cook a 3 year old for dinner, you wouldn't like that very much, would you?" She was like "yeah but that's a kid...your rabbits aren't your KIDS." I said "No, just because YOU don't see them as kids, doesn't mean other people done't...they ARE my kids." She just rolled her eyes and was about to open her mouth to say something but my supervisor cut her off and told her not to bring it up again. She got fired a few weeks later.

That stinks but I totally know the feeling. We've been doing tag sales the last few years to raise money for the shelter and we've been barely breaking $300. The first time we did one we made over $800...now to barely be breaking $300 is heartbreaking. Fundraising takes so much effort and energy (not to mention that the people involved do it for FREE), and it stinks when it doesn't turn out how you hoped. Every little bit helps, and we're always appreciative of what we get, but I know how you feel!

A friend of mine (that I've known since we were 18 months old) said goodbye to her dad on Wednesday; in the way they've been wording it, he won his fight with brain cancer and is finally at rest in his real Home.

That's awful but I like the way they are thinking about it. When my boyfriend's mom passed away, I think it made it just a bit easier because we knew she was finally done suffering. You will never get passed the pain of actually missing the person, but you find solace in knowing they are finally, and permanently, cancer free.

We kept Boma since that was the one we are really, really looking forward to trying before we spend some free time at the resort.

I forget, are you going for breakfast or dinner? We loved our breakfast here, it's just a pain to get to first thing in the morning when you're relying on Disney transportation.

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend, and please remember to cherish the people in your life! You never know what the next day might bring.

:grouphug:

Great words to live by! :thumbsup2

Hey, I'm glad to see an update from you, I've missed you! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry about your friend's dad.

I'm glad you added the QSDP, it sounds great! I think I might like to do that for my next trip, whenever that will be! I love the restaurants and everything, but I think I'd like to be free from ADR's for one trip! Although with my DH and Le Cellier obsession, I don't know how that will be possible! :rotfl:

Hope you had a great weekend!

Here's a pic I took today of Parsley. It's one of my favorite shots so I thought I'd share with some fellow animal lovers :goodvibes
