The national polls though mean nothing.
How is he doing in the swing states? He needs to take some states (ahem FL & OH) that Kerry could not........

I'm loving McCain's pick more and more with each passing day.![]()
ABC News is reporting that the McCain campaign is using stall tactics in order to delay the release of the report, currently slated to be handed down at the end of October.
Is the McCain campaign afraid of an October surprise involving vice-presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska?
The Alaska state senator running an investigation of Gov. Palin says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31, four days before the November election.
I dont know about you, but the number one quality I look for in my elected leaders is their ability to abuse power and obstruct investigations. It would be too much of a radical departure from the Bush years otherwise.
Palins attorney has decided to pursue a rather bizarre line of defense, arguing against the probe on the following grounds:
Our concern is that Hollis French [the Anchorage Democrat and former state prosecutor who is project director for the legislative investigation] turns into Ken Starr and uses public money to pursue a political vendetta rather than truly pursue an honest inquiry into an alleged ethics issue, Van Flein said in an interview.
You heard right: Palins attorney is admitting that Ken Starrs investigation into former President Clinton wasnt an honest inquiry, but rather a politically-motivated vendetta. I certainly have sympathy for the victims of poltically-motivated vendettas, but in this case Sarah Palin isnt the victim; the upstanding public safety commissioner she fired, Walt Monegan, is.
Josh has a great breakdown of the scandal in case anyone needs refreshing.
Following Palin's speech, the polls are now:
Obama - 49%
McCain - 42%
That's a 7 point lead for Obama.
Let's watch the polls over the next few days for the full reaction, if any.

I'm expecting a bounce for McCain from the convention, but we'll just have to wait to see.

Actually, I'm expecting a trounce(ing) of Obama.![]()

I think the best McCain can hope for is that he evens up with Obama again, I don't think he'll pull ahead, not from the convention bounce anyway.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) said:More than 37 million U.S. TV viewers tuned in to watch Sarah Palin accept the Republican nomination for vice president on Wednesday, just shy of the record set last week by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, Nielsen Media Research reported.
Nielsen has said the 38.4 million viewers averaged by Obama's address last Thursday are believed to be the biggest television audience ever for a U.S. political convention speech, and Palin's tally of 37.2 million came close to that.
