Because its not their own points, the points belong to another entity, that just so happens to probably share the same address or employees. Or when I went down the rabbit hole a few months ago, its a LLC registered just a few blocks down at a law office they are connected to.

I have no idea what they do or don’t do, and I’m not trying to suggest something nefarious that I don’t have any personal knowledge of, but the whole “instant sale” option on the DVC Resale Market website means they absolutely do buy points to resell them, so that article is a bit disingenuous.

Again, what they do while they are in possession of those points I cannot say, but that corporate umbrella absolutely has their own points. I just don’t think that article is being fully transparent and that’s not too cool.

I really, really like a lot of the people under their employ, so no shade to them.

But the well has been a bit poisoned and they are not the most magnanimous operation. They are just the best advertised.

A lot of people are shunted towards monera financing and it’s been odd to see how the sentiment has even shifted on the board. The number one rule was not to finance. Finance was the curse word and now there seems to be a collective shrug in the broader community.

Yeah I am not team finance. Don't want to offend anyone but financing DVC just isn't financially smart, if you have a specific set in stone quick exit strategy maybe there is a case to be made for it.

What I described was my exact resale experience, and to @AstroBlasters point it was more than likely a foreclosed contract. I realized it wasn’t a 3 party negotiation when I got the contract.

ETA - not sure when World of DVC purchased Monera but perhaps this was prior to that.

FWIW, there is a current rental post on this very forum, someone renting 1000+ points and speaking about how experienced they are with renting, so on and so forth. I'd be careful out there...

I agree. There is all ready a health community of renters who will take highly sort after dates and grab confirmed reservations for them.

It seems that this process ramped up around COVID times and has just become more common.

It’s also why people have an idea of what is being rented because it’s in plain sight.

When it wasn’t a thing, the optics were different and I won’t be surprised to see brokers shift back to just having owners offer points and advertise confirmed closer to check in (or provide that info via inquiry only)

Not sure if it's the same person (and it doesn't really matter), but I've found it ironic that there are owners who say things like "highly experienced renter", or "I've been renting points for 5 years", in an effort to build confidence with potential renters, when it's also revealing so much more.
