The job hunt is really frustrating me right now.

This describes what was mentioned in a previous post. Remember, YOU are probably doing everything right. There's possibly just no jobs right now. :(

I would never take the attitude that I'm doing everything right. There's always something I can improve upon or fine-tune in some way. I'm not trying to get it perfect, I'm just trying to get better at it to the point where eventually I find that long-awaited pearl in the clamshell.

@Foxhound3857 - are you specifically looking for a warehouse job?

I would take one close to me, or even up to 25 miles away if it doesn't include ungodly amounts of overtime (I.E 6-day 10-12 hour shifts).

But ideally I'm looking for a retail job so I can begin to diversify my skillset. I want cashier experience specifically.

Have you looked into drug stores? My son worked at Walgreens during Covid and being familiar with point of sale systems helped him secure jobs in subsequent years.

I applied to a few Walgreens and Rite Aids in my area. Never got a call back for an interview. Both would be a nice place to have an employee discount too.

Are there any new retail stores opening up near you? Have you tried Target or Wal*Mart?

Target turned me down less than 24 hours after I applied.

Walmart I've applied a few times over the last few months but I never got called back for an interview.

Which is strange because my mother did and was hired on the spot, so I don't know what she did differently from me. But I would have gladly traded with her because she quit that job less than a week after she was hired. Said she hated dealing with the customers.

Have you tried driving for Uber or Lyft as a supplement? My 70 year old friend drives four hours a day on average in a square area near his home from 10-2, roughly. Shorter trips, broad daylight. He loves it as he is bringing in @$2000 a month to supplement social security and loves meeting people.

Uber turned me down before because I have two at fault accidents on my driving record. One of them was four years ago so I think it's down to one now, but they told me they generally only take applicants with a clean record.

FoxHound3857, I am praying for you 🙏

I would suggest you delete all of the PDF's you've provided here.

Well, we're in business! Salvation Army extended me an offer for the position an hour ago. I'm signing all the emailed documents now. I left a message with the hiring manager as well, incase it doesn't go through properly and I need to come fill out the forms in person. The formatting with google docs is a bit strange.

Finally getting back into the work force though! Sunrise is finally breaking through!

Congratulations!

Congratulations! It's always such a relief. I'm really happy for you.

You have to be relieved!

It's a good start! The hours are marginal, roughly 20 a week, five days of 4 to 4 1/2 hour shifts, though she said it's not uncommon they ask you to stay an extra hour for some shifts, so I'm predicting around 24 a week, which isn't bad. And it's only five miles from my house, so marginal fuel costs.

I'm just happy to be getting the position at all. And if I do good there's always the prospect of getting more hours in the future.

Hiring manager said he received everything. Now I just wait for my background check to finish.

I need to find a Wednesday to squeeze in one more Disneyland trip before I start. haven't used my Magic Key all year because I was prioritizing saving my unemployment money while I was on the hunt for another position (and I was blacked out for most of the Summer, though I don't like going out in the heat anyway). I think a trip is well earned now. :smooth:
