The "I've Waited My Whole Life" Christmas Suprise Trip Report-Final/Video Update 2/21

I loved you report. IT makes me so excited for mine trip next year. I was woried that all my planning and research would leave me with a trip that would not live up to the hype. Not anymore. THanks for sharing your story.

On the shot of your family from behind.. walking in front of the castle... find a photoshop guru and clone out the other guests! It would be quick work for someone with skills and would make a great shot and awesome one, IMO.

Great trip report. Yours is the first I have read from begging to end and I throughly enjoyed hearing the trials, tribulations, and adventures of your families trip. Good Job.

Thank you readers, thank you! I am so glad you are enjoying our story! You know Grumpy still has not read it? He told me he would. He is in Vietnam right now on a trip with work, he is there with 12 teenage boys  and 2 other adults. An 18 day trip. Ugh. Now you see why my ticker says the kids and I are going in a year. We are NOT doing this again, being left home this long stinks. Next year while he is off who knows where, we'll be visiting the Mouse.

Anywho, thanks reading and so glad I can offer some light reading for your workday!:thumbsup2

ok, so i just found your report, and i have so much to say but now I can't remember any of it! first of all, baggalini. I KNOW! wonderful right? we put our photopass and tickets in the little zip pouch on the trapp, too. it was nice to not have to turn the whole bag around every time i needed those things! the way you surprised the kids, SO FUNNY! that was so priceless. but isnt that how it always happens? you anticipate how something will happen and then well...it doesnt haha. we are going to AKL this dec 15th-22nd and hoping for good weather and low crowds like you had!
the end of your report made me cry! i have been sitting here for over 2 hours reading the whole thing....heartwrenching! you brought back all the memories from my january honeymoon. i am SO sentimental and HATED leaving the GF. my "bad memor" from leaving was when we walked to teh front of the resort, and DH took the long trek over to teh self parking to get the car. our luggage was waiitng at the valet. I sat undere the overhang on a planter curb thing with our to go lunches form gasparillas for about 7-8 minutes, alone, watching people pull up, cars loaded down, all smiles, just checking in for their trip, and we were taking a 10 hour drive home. I was so upset and so envious. it was the worst 8 minutes EVER! I almost cried reading the end of your report with the leaving the mk! ok, sorry this was so long. truly loved your report!:wizard:

:wave2: Allyson, I'm so glad that we are having a "snow day" here in NJ...I found your report last night and stayed up until 1:30 in the morning reading!

Thanks for taking us along...

Kathy

You mean something like this. I tried to remove the other people - thus I had to re-engineer the scene a bit...

WOW that's incredible.

OP - thank you so much for sharing your trip with us. You're a wonderful writer (and mother as well) :goodvibes

How exciting about AFV! Keep us posted...can't wait to hear about it!!

I sure will! Everyday I run to the mailbox hoping to find something from them!

My DH is home from Vietnam, thank goodness! He said he was really glad that we (the kids and I) were going to Disney next year when he takes his trip. That made me feel better about spending the $$$$! He knows that we miss him so much and that is no picnic for me so to spend part of that time in the Happiest Place on Earth will make it so much easier! Maybe I should hit him up for the Poly huh? :lmao:

Yup, since you may be able to tell by using the word awesome, I'm from MA too, right in Dudley! It's a small world after all! I just found this site not that long ago and just read your entire report tonight:) I wasn't sure I would post a pre and post report but yours made me really want to! Although, I don't think I'll be able to write as well as you did! Thanks so much! We are going in August-our kids first time! Good luck with AFV!

First, let me say that your trip report was awesome!
Second, and most importantly you gave me the most wonderful idea. My husband is in the National Guard and has AT for 2 weeks out of the year. I totally understand the single mommy syndrome and hate it! Now I am thinking I will take a page out of your playbook and visit the world next time he is gone. Only it will have to be in 2008 as we have a trip planned for the end of this May.

Thanks for giving me the idea--I owe you! Oh our 4 yr. old boys should meet, mine is obsessed with the Power Rangers as well. Red is Best!:thumbsup2

You are kidding me? Douglas MA? I grew up in Whitinsville! I have friends and family in Douglas! What a small world!

Thank you readers, I am working on the next installment. Kids go back to school tomorrow and Grumpy goes back to work so I should be able to get a move on!

Allyson :)

I have been eagerly reading your trip story - noted that you mention MA. Then get here.....forget the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon - I think there should be a six degrees of Whitinsville. I am married to a Whitinsville man (made him move to the Midwest ;) ) but he still has a large amount of family there.

My it is a small world after all! :goodvibes

Great report! I've just spent the last couple of hours reading it! You are a great writer!:thumbsup2

That is too funny! Yes it is a small world! Great Lakes state, pardon my geography but would that be Michigan? Whitinsville, Michigan, that connection makes me think Calvin College, am I right? A lot of graduates of the Christian school in Whitinsville go on to Calvin so I wonder if I have it right!

An entertaining author and you're psychic too!! We met at Calvin  His older siblings went to Northbridge but he was the trailer by many many years and by that time WCS was open and doing high school. Interestingly my father who is into his 80s is also from Whitinsville. It's a scary thing how that tiny town can have so many connections elsewhere!

Great trippie!

You asked earlier what a CM does at Whispering Canyon, and you drink that really big drink ... well my neighbor went, drank two small ones and the HUGE one. The waitress walked back with her jaw literally on the floor, when she saw it empty. He just laughed and laughed. He also assured her he did NOT want another one ... lol. I'm pretty sure he really had to chase the white rabitt after that one.

I also understand your frustration at 50's Prime Time. We're going there for the first time in May, however we've been twice to WC with a server who didn't do any antics. It's hard, but you feel like saying "Hello! I'm paying a lot of money for you to make a fool of me!"

In regards to your March trip ... the only thing that could go wrong is Spring Break. However, last year we went during spring break, in the middle of the week, and had a 15 min wait for Dumbo. It really depends, and it's something hard to guess. Also, the weather is usually pretty decent, but we just got a cold front here this weekend, which prooves you can't plan for everything.

Does the planner that you use also do Disneyland? We just decided we're going in TWO YEARS. I'm silly, but I'm THRILLED to be a KOTS this time. I have a two year old who truely believes that everyday is a Disney day. Smart kid.

Well thank you, thank you all for reading. It has been so fun to do this and I am going to print it all off and save it. Grumpy thinks the whole idea of writing a trip report so that strangers can sit and read it is absolutely bizarre. I tell him each night "Hey, guess how many page views I got?" and he rolls his eyes at me. He doesn't get it. He doesn't get that it is fun to read other people's stories, especially when your own next trip isn't for a while. I told him I was going to print it out and read it to him (he has never read a word of it) and he said he's humor me and let me do that.

Anyway, closing thoughts? It was all I had hoped it would be and then some. Some things were not what I had envisioned, namely the reveal, but I love the way it happened. It is my family and their unique way of reacting. I will treasure that video forever and Belle gets a kick now I think out of the fact that I have told her many strangers have watched that and laughed. Side note, we did send it in to AFV and they say it can take 3 months to hear back from them so keep those fingers crossed. We decided if we do somehow make it there and win some $$$ it is of course going to pay for another Disney trip!

But really all the planning and dreaming all year culminated in a near perfect trip. We had so much fun. Being at Disney at Christmas time is worth doing, all the decorations, the feel, just great. Do it at least once.

Booking with Jessica at The Magic For Less another good thing. She was fantastic and friendly and when she saved me that $460 in August well I wanted to hug her! I would, and will, use her services again.

Pop Century, really fun! Would I like to stay at a Deluxe? Heck yeah but Pop was clean, fun, friendly CMs and great bus service. It worked for the budget and worked for us.

Dining Plan, another yes. Loved it. If you love to eat and TS are a part of your regular vacationing than you can't go wrong.

Did the kids love it? Dumb question right? Yes of course, they talk about it ALL THE TIME. Whenever anyone asks Goofy if he went to Disney World he responds with "Yes and I went on Tower of Terror!" and then starts listing about every other ride we went on too and the person starts wishing they didn't ask. He brought his autograph book to Story Time at the library and showed Miss Rosemary our librarian each and every signature. Being a gem she stuck with him through the whole book. So yes, this trip meant something to them and I know they will remember it always. They "got" that Disney was different, that it was special, that it was magical!

How about Grumpy you ask? Well. He kept his promise to me and did not gripe all week. Actually if asked he will tell you it was good. He had a better time than he thought he would. The kids behaviour was way better than he was anticipating. The lines were way shorter than he was expecting and he thanked me for my hours of planning. What he didn't like? Feeling like he could lose a kid in the crowds. When you are walking down Main Street and it is crowded, even more so at night in the dark, and you have to hold hands and just constantly be sure you don't lose someone. That was stressful for him and he just didn't like always worrying about keeping track of the kids. He told me he would consider going back when they were older, like maybe 13/11/8. He also told me that he would see no need to go back really anytime sooner since we saw most of everything we wanted to on this trip. :sad2: See, he doesn't get it. He doesn't get that you can go back and see the same things a year later (or even sooner) and you'll see something new in it or experience it in a different way or heck just enjoy it again. So I didn't convert him but the fact that he said he would go back, just down the road, was a start. At least he didn't say he never wanted to go back right?

So, when is the next trip and who is going? Well from the ticker you can probably figure out it is just the kids and I. Am I crazy? Somedays I think I am! We are planning on next March. I am thinking March 6-12, 2008. I emailed Jessica 2 days after we got home in December and asked her about it. She told me the best thing would be to sit tight till the 2008 rates come out and book our package then. So we wait.

Why is it just us? Well aside from Grumpy not wanting to go back so soon it so happens that every March Grumpy takes a trip with work. He works for a boarding school and they take a group of kids each March somewhere different and exotic. And they go for anywhere from 14-18 days. Yes, that is a long time to be left single momming it. I have grown to hate March. He is gone so long and often to places with either bad phone service or horrible time differences so we can't always talk each day (ever since our first date in 1993 we did not go a day without speaking, until his first time on one of these trips in 2004 and phone service in Thailand crushed our record). I always worry that he is either going to be eaten by some animal or fall off a cliff on one of these trips. They tend to go off the beaten path and really see the country and the culture. These trips are not staying at the Hyatt and travelling by air conditioned motor coach. Anyway, once he is home with the stories and pictures and trinkets it is all good but while he is gone the kids and I are left to fend for ourselves and we miss him terribly. They are all very close to their Dad and I remember one time he was leaving and I walked into my bathroom to find he and Belle embracing and both in tears. :sad1:

My point, we all hate March. So we decided what better time to go to the World again? Grumpy will be on one of his trips to who knows where (this March it is 17 days in Vietnam) and so instead of being home, mopey and sad, we will plan our trip to be gone the same time he is. That will give us something to look forward to instead of dread and we can go have some fun too.

They will be 10,8 and 5 at trip time so I know I can do this. I am a little nervous though, being the only adult. But I know Belle will be helpful and Goofy a little older too. The best thing in the world would be a massive growth spurt for Goofy. If he could hit 48 inches that would be great but I won't hold my breath. He is only 41 now. We'll just cross that bridge when we come to it and I think if I give Belle a cell phone she and Bashful could ride say, EE, and Goofy and I could wait at the exit. Otherwise aside from a few rides we can do all the other things together and I think we'll have a great time.

So, that is it, that's all, there is no more. It was fantastic and I hope the next trip is as memorable too. Come next February I'll be sure to start a pre-trippie and hope you'll come ablong for the ride again. Till then I am off to find some other Trippies to tag along with while I pass the time. :rolleyes1

You are such a precious person! I loved reading every minute of your trip report. It was so touching.

I know that most people in my own life do not understand why I am so Disney crazy. They ask, "aren't you ready to go somewhere else?" But the truth is that right now I don't want to go any where else. Disney is about family to us. It is about holding tight and cherishing these moments while they are little, because we know that they grow so fast!

I cry every time I leave the Magic Kingdom at the end of my trip too. You are such a wonderful mother, your kids and Grumpy are so blessed to have you.

I am so excited because I am beginning the journey that you began last year. (Sadly, I did not think to make this a surprise, but maybe another year!) I have been dreaming about it every night and researching every morning. This will be our first trip at Christmas time, we have been going every year when they have free dining. (It is hard for my grumpy to pass up that kind of deal) But, this year he said we are going the first week of December (my b-day) so that we can experience Christmas time there. (he says he is doing this because he realizes that I am not going to stop talking about it until we go at Christmas. I am praying and watching a for a great deal at that time:) I welcome any tips that you would like to send my way.

Thanks so much for sharing. March really does come quick. Our anniversary is in March and I notice that after Christmas it seems to come so quick!

By the way, Elf is my all time FAVORITE movie!

I just spent 4 hours -- Yes 4 hours -- reading the trip report! I loved it (though I did skip the video for now)

We are going 12/14-12/22/07. We were there in 2005 at the same time, but our weather was quite bad as compared to yours (pants, jackets & rain ponchos most days)

My family thinks I'm crazy planning so far in advance. And even the kids who can't wait to go back told me they can't deal with all my talk of which restaurants to try this time.

Did you ever consider free lancing journalism? You are very entertaining!

Thanks for a great TR!
