The "I've Waited Forever to Go Solo" Mom's Leaving Everyone Behind Trip! Updt 3/11

Okay so we are 5 days out. 5 days. Oh my. This should be the glorious time of happily packing while humming Zippidy Doo Dah right? Wrong. This is the anxious time of slugging down cups of coffee and alternating between DIS posts on Tropical Storm Fay and Hurricane Projections on all the weather sites.

I knew going in August you ran a risk, I knew it. Did I buy insurance? Nope. And I'm really not worried about that. I doubt the trip will need to be cancelled but I really worry about delays and maybe losing a day or something. *gasp* did I say that?

Here's the deal if you haven't heard of Fay. The 5 day projection puts her as a Category 1 Hurricane Wednesday morning 2amish around the central part of FL. By Thursday morning 2amish they have her down to a Tropical Storm again and she looks to be over Georgia heading sort of westerly. Now I don't fly out of CT till 12:30 on Thursday, arriving in FL at 3:30ish. So I am thinking I should be okay. My concern is what if she stalls or what if she is just a big storm over Georgia on Thursday, would they cancel my flight? Go around her? I've never had to deal with anything like this so I don't know what the possibilities are. Any experience with this sort of thing out there?

In other news I am really going to start packing. I finished my DIS and TGM luggage tags last night. I think I have everything I need as far as purchases go. I need some singles for tips, I may hit the bank today. Cutesy tip envelopes? Maybe I'll print a few off.

We are having some friends over for a dessert night tonight so I need go buy some things. I am doing a make your own sundae bar for the 11 kids that will be here and maybe cheesecake for the adults. Oh and I just printed off a recipe for a Pink Flirtini. I'm thinking we need those for sure. To combat the 11 kids running around.

And Goofy lost his first tooth. A milestone in our house. It had been sooooo loose for days. I had no idea how it was hanging on. Well last night he asked Bashful to pull it out. Now Bashful is not very loving to her brother so this was probably a dream come true for her. A chance to yank a body part off her brother. She pulled it out and he said "Thank you, I love you so much!". It was very cute. Tooth Fairy came and he is happy with his payment. He just looks too cute with the space there, he's growing up!

So enjoy your Saturday! And Pixie Dust for travel this week okay? Lots and lots of Pixie Dust! :wizard: I need it!

Yikes! I had not heard of Fay. I don't think I like her. ;) Well I hope that it stays on the current timeline and that everything is free and clear for your flight on Thursday. I know it is easier said than done but ultimately it is out of our control (other than pixie dust! :wizard: ) and so you just have to roll with it. I will suggest that you load the airline's phone #(s) into your cell so if in the event your flight is canceled you can start calling immediately for an alternate flight. Also sometimes the web has info before the ticket agents do so either sign up for email updates if your airline offers that or maybe call someone who can be at their computer. Last year I had a flight canceled due to snow and I had the info via email before the gate agents did. But hopefully you won't need any of that!

Let me know how those Pink Flirtini's turn out and if they are good, please share the recipe!

Absolutely do not worry about Fay!!

I read somewhere, can't remember where now, that Disney has a policy of allowing you to cancel/reschedule up to the mostly last minute if a hurricane is headed towards Disney.

Here's the official policy because I did a horrible job of describing it! This is why I didn't even bother with Trip Insurance for my trip.

Official Policy from Disney

Don't worry about Fay! Even if it stalls over Georgia it will just be a lot of rain by then! The plane will probably either go high enough to fly above it or go around it. It shouldn't affect you at all!

Now go pack and quit watching Jim Cantore on the Weather Channel! ;)

Are you connecting in Atlanta?? if so, I am not as optimistic as Jackie if it does come this way, I don't think they would xlnd anything unless it was really bad, but would prepare for delays... Atlanta is the worst to connect through... I don't think it will become anything major though, I am more bummed for you that your weather probably wont' be that nice now :(

You need to share the pink flirtini recipe that sounds interesting??

Thank you! I went and signed up for SW thing where they will text me any delays or cancellations. Hoping I don't hear from them! LOL!

Thank you! I think I'll be okay, I've been watching the updates off and on all day. It looks like by Th I should be okay.

Here's hoping Fay fizzles right out and everything can go on as planned.
Amen to that!

I think I'm settling in with the Weather Channel tonight! I hope it is fine to fly by Th!

No connections, a direct flight Hartford to Orlando. If we were connecting in Atlanta I think I'd be quite concerned.

Just wanted to say have a great trip! I really hope I see you there!!!!
You too! Safe travels and looking forward to meeting you!

Hi Folks!

Okay first things first, the Pink Flirtini. It was good, not great, but good. It needs a little something, it wasn't quite sweet enough for me. I like sweet. This is fruity but the champagne kind of did something to it. Maybe I added too much champagne. I don't know. But it was good, I'd make it again and adjust some things to tweak it.

Ingredients
1 fluid ounce raspberry vodka
1/2 fluid ounce Cointreau liqueur
1/2 fluid ounce pineapple juice
1/2 fluid ounce cranberry juice
1 dash fresh lime juice
1-2 raspberries
champagne
Directions
1Muddle the raspberries in the bottom of a martini glass.
2Combine the raspberry vodka, cointreau, pineapple juice, cranberry juice and lime juice in a shaker.
3Shake and strain into glass.
4Top with champagne.
5Garnish with a sprig of mint.
6Enjoy!

Our neighbors brought over Passion Fruit Vodka and mixed it with Lemonade. That was very delightful! And no we are not lushes really. We just enjoy a nice cocktail now and then. It was a great night. Our other friends arrived a bit late but the kids all played flashlight tag outside after eating their ice cream sundaes and the grown ups were on the deck with some music, cocktails and a plethora of dessert choices. It was fun!

Okay, Fay. Well I've been reading every thread I can find on the DIS about her as well as checking the weather sites. Southwest has their travel advisory right now for today through Wednesday night so to me that says they think they'll be okay Thursday. I think what I face is possible delays due to the backlog of cancelled/delayed flights on Tues/Wed. I just need to stay positive and realize it is out of my hands completely. Hopefully I'll still get to Disney on Thursday and can enjoy my trip.

I read Grumpy my Solo Trip Pledge today. I printed it to take with me of course. He stood there and when I was done all he could say was......

You are such a nerd.

Hmmmmph. He'll never get it! :rotfl2:

Packing for real this week. I feel like I've been saying that for weeks but now that we are almost just 3 days away, it is time.

And fellow runners, I followed your advice and loaded some new tunes tonight. I bought some songs from iTunes. Corrina, the Hamster Dance? Cracked me up, I found it, didn't buy it but found it! I did buy Sexyback, Viva La Vida, Relax (Frankie Goes to Hollywood), that Jason Mraz song (you are so right, the perfect pace, I loved it!), a Pink song and that might be it. Good stuff though. Got 3 miles in tonight.

Well keep that Travel Day Pixie Dust coming! This is probably just preparation for my January trip. You just KNOW the northeast will have a blizzard when we are supposed to fly out then!

That pink flirtini sounds awfullly good -- of course the name alone sells it to me! :thumbsup2

Pixie dust for Thursday!!! pixiedust:

Your DH and my DH would get along soooo well -- mine is always saying things like that to me! :rotfl: I think your solo pledge is fabulous!

You should be fine by Thursday. Tuesday/Wednesday...:confused3

Did you watch any of the women's marathon on the Olympics? None of those ladies looked like they were having much fun. Good for you for running. :yay:

Just get here before the blizzard comes then you can :lmao:.

Hey Allyson,
I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and for Florida in general on this one. It just seems like such a wacky storm, from what Jim says.

OK - it's out now. I have very, VERY questionable taste in music. Just to be clear, I wouldn't just listen to Safety Dance or The Hamster Dance in the car or whatever - but HD has never failed to get me moving when I was flagging on a run. Glad you found some new tunes that work for you - and maybe got a laugh out of it too. ;) Whatever keeps you moving through the run!

I LOVE your pledge. I think I had kind of missed it before, in my distraction. Way to be intentional! :thumbsup2

That cocktail recipe has a great name, even if it wasn't all you had hoped. I wonder sometimes about all these spin-off-tinis that aren't really a whole lot like actual martinis. Except that I don't really like martinis, so that leads me not to order spin-off-tinis either. Except the WDW blue glowtini. I did get that one time and it was nice and sweet. But for the $$$, I'd rather have a Pina CoLava. :drinking1

Hi Allyson! :flower3:

I hope you have pleasant weather on your trip. I know you will have loads of fun, but also please be careful.

I wish I could say more reassuring things, I have been watching the news and keeping track of the weather. I hope everybody in, at, on their way to, or from WDW stays safe.

Here's lots of :pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust: :pixiedust: . Let us know how you're doing. Take Care!

I didn't see any of the marathon. No shiny happy faces huh? LOL. Seems I always catch gymnastics or beach volleyball and that's about it!

I don't like real martinis at all, got to be sweet, fruity, chocolaty or colorful for me. I'm a frou-frou drinker forsure. Glowtini sounds good to me, I love Blue Drinks! I'm excited to try the Tangerine Daquiri is it? And the Grey Goose Slushie!

So everyone doesn't have Elton John, Rob Zombie, Ella Fitzgerald and Depeche Mode on their iPod?:confused3
Hey I used to like Depeche Mode in college! I should look some of their stuff up! That would be a blast from the past for me! Thanks!

Thank you thank you! I just want to get there on Thursday. If it rains every day I would be fine. I think travelling alone you can roll with things so much easier. If this were a trip with my family I'd be bummed right now at the prospect of days of rain. But just me, give me a poncho and Crocs and I'll be good. Wet and soggy but good.

Allyson:surfweb:

Okay so Fay is a weird storm isn't she? Gosh her path has changed so much and now she's doing the out of FL no back into FL thing this week. Weird. But she didn't make Hurricane status and it looks like I'll be fine flying in on Thursday. So that is good. I am still planning to leave extra early for the airport on Thursday. I would anticipate it could be extra crowded/crazy with Tues/Wed people who couldn't fly out trying to get out. And don't even ask about #94. Have you seen that? If you haven't been glued to weather sites like I have the last 2 days you may not have. It is out by Africa now but if it organizes would turn into Gustav and be in the area next week. Who is going to try and be flying *out* of FL next Tuesday? Oh yeah, me. Ugh. I hope it is a non issue.

So I emailed my weatherman, Pete Bouchard of WHDH-TV in Boston. I adore him! He is my favorite weatherman and the reason I watch that channel.:happytv: And about a year ago I started emailing him now and then and he writes back and is just a funny guy! He loves 80's music and trivia and has a great sense of humor. I think he would fit right in with my DH and our circle of friends. But there is that stalker-ish thing so I try not to write him too much! LOL! Anyway I wrote Pete and told him of my trip to the Mouse and my travel concerns. He wrote me this morning and made me feel a bit better.

Hey Allyson

One thing's for sure, she isn't going anywhere fast. The same pattern
that is giving us all this nice weather is slowing the storm to a crawl
over central and northern Florida.

Travel-wise, I don't think it will be a problem. Rain-wise, I think it
will be a hassle - at least until Friday. After that, things should
improve.

Have fun!

-Peter Pan

He signed it Peter "Pan", isn't that cute! LOL! It is the little things that amuse me. If he ever goes to another city, I don't know what I'll do. :confused3

So last night I ironed and started packing. I realized that much of my wardrobe is khaki and white. I think I need to branch out more. I also had my moment of "What the heck are you doing?". I did. That moment of wondering what am I doing leaving my family and going to Disney World alone. I told DH. Big mistake. He said "Like, what the heck are you doing being completely self indulgent?". Love you too honey. He was joking, he loves teasing me about this trip as you know. But really it was a moment of wondering about this. I will say I'm okay this morning, it has fleeted but for a moment there I was feeling like I'd made a mistake.

Okay today I need to get the kids school supplies distributed to their backpacks. Since we all get back on Tuesday afternoon and school starts Wednesday I don't want to leave it till the last minute. It is all purchased, just needs to be sorted among them.

Two days! Reminds me of that old 80s movie line "Two dollars, just two dollars". Anyone remember that one?

Good news is it only lasts a few fleeting seconds!
