The "I lied to get an ADR" thread

Yeah, lying is a skill we should all cultivate.

I would think most adults would be able to tell the difference betwen a lie that is harmless and one that actually causes a company to loose money. But for some reason it is ok to lie to the Disney corporation, as long as you have fun. Wow, people can justify anything on these boards if they want to.

If Disney wanted to give your party of 2 a table that seats 4, it would. Reality is they make more money actually having 4 people at that table then 2.

I really wish they would go to having a non refundable deposit on all ADRs, for each member of the dining party. You only show up with 2 when you reserved for 4, $20 per person gone. Then people who actually want ADRs and have the correct party size could get those reservations. Not people doing an end around on the system.

Give me a break. This has to be a joke right? Are you really concerned with Disney losing money because someone showed up with one less person?

I've had reservations for big parties, and for various reasons not everyone was able to make it to dinner, and we showed up with 1 or 2 less people. I should be penalized for that? The last time I was at the California Grill, I went with 2 extra people. Should I be rewarded? Maybe get a discount on my meal?

Well, my sister and BIL just cancelled on us. I made all of our ADR's for the four of us and now they arent going. Should I be charged an extra $40 because they arent going now? I was planning on calling Disney to tell them we were only going to have 2 people now, but now I am re-thinking it. I am afraid they will make me cancel and we wont get any of our ADR's!

That may happen..One time we had an ADR for 10 and 2 couldnt make it so I called to try and change it to 8. You would have thought it was the end of the world! I was on hold for over 10 minutes and they finally came back and told me not to change it because they couldnt accomodate 8..go figure:confused3

Ahhhhh!! This is what I am afraid of! I dont think this is in any way my fault, so I dont think I wll ruin all my ADR's by trying to rebook. I feel bad, but what can I do?

So your saying that if my mom gets dog sick on Space Mountain and goes back to the room to rest for the evening and can't make dinner that I should be penalized $20 for that? If Disney adopted a policy like this, it would rub a lot of people the wrong way (including me).

I think it would be sad for the people who are honest, but unfortunately you have so many people being dishonest that it seems like it is needed.

It is unfortunate that so many people seem to think that the wrong things they do have no effect on anyone else. If Disney gets to the point (and I truly think they are getting there) that they know it will be cost effective do do something like a deposit per diner, and they know people are making phantom dining reservations, then I can see it happening. And the honest people will be the ones paying a price for the dishonest ones.

You still havent answered my question..If it is so dishonest why have I been told, on 2 different occasions, by Disney employees, that it is okay to show up with the incorrect party size? One time, I wanted reservations at le Cellier for 2 and I couldn't get it, so The concierge set me up for a table of 3 and told me to show up with 2..The other time, I tried to do the right thing by calling to cancel 2 people out of a party of 10 and I was on hold forever and they came back and told me to keep it at 10..they couldn't accomodate 8 but just show up with 8..figure that out:confused3 ..So, if Disney is telling me its alright, and you're telling me its wrong, I'll go with Disney on this one.:rolleyes1

So did they tell you to do this as a regular practice, or did they do that for you in order to be nice? There is a difference, and I think that some people take Disneys doing something to be nice as an ok to do it every time.

I wouldn't do it as a regular practice and I did not ask them that question. I don't think people would need to do it all the time. Most people get the ADR's they want with no problems, but there will be the occasional time when what they want is not available and if Disney doesn't seem to mind, neither do I.

So because some Disney CMS decided to be nice to you, make some magic for your family, you think that is giving everyone the ok to invent phantom dining guests any time they want? I think Disney does care, as evidenced by some of the attitudes people are getting when they show up and they have fewer people in their group than is on the reservation.

When people take advantage of the system is when Disney has to figure out some way to shut the door on them. Remember all of the people who used children's dining credits for adult meals? Disney took care of that, and if people continue to book larger tables than what they need, causing Disney to loose revenue, they will figure out a way to stop it.

I think that would be a bad idea... too many people would drag their poor sick people from the group to dinner when they should go back to the room. I know my SIL would NOT "waste" the $20 she would have her kids come with and sit there miserable and order a drink and wait it out sick or not.

Wow, I never said I think EVERYONE should do it ALL the time! Why would EVERYONE need to do it ALL the time? ADRS are relatively easy to get. I'm saying Disney does not seem to mind the occasional people showing up with the wrong number of people and for my family they encouraged it, Twice! The OP of the other ADR thread was also told to keep the resevation at 3 and show up with 2. If thats Disney magic then so be it..it sends the message that it can be done. I did not get an attitude from anyone either time I showed up with the wrong number of people..they were nothing but nice to me and very accomodating..hence my deduction that they really didnt care. If they did care it would have been taken care of already. I think I read one post where someone got an attitude and it may not even have been for that reason. Am I missing others? Like I said before, I would not do this as a regular practice and I'm not sure anyone would, but as long as Disney lets it happen..it will happen

maxiesmom & disknee, I think it's time to agree to disagree on this one and let it go.

I've done CRT table for four with three people. I have no problem paying for the fourth person. However, can anyone please tell me what a table for three looks like ?

I asked for a party of 3 instead of 2 for Chef Mickeys when I couldnt get a table for 2. And then I posted a thread asking Has anyone ever booked extra people but showed up with less (didnt know about this thread here until now) and people gave me attitude problems, saying it was wrong and etc and I just got completely frustrated and mad and lost interest and cancelled my Chef Mickeys. Now im kicking myself in the butt and I really want my ADR back. I wish I could turn back time and stopped myself from cancelling it. Now all I can do is pray for a miracle something opens up for either a party of 2 or 3!

I feel so bad for you! It is a shame that there are always some arrogant posters who think they know it all and they post nasty responses to the most innocent of questions here on the DIS. Take whatever they say with a grain of salt. I know you wish that you hadn't cancelled your ressie based on this board and the responses. Some holier-than-thou posters always try to make others feel guilty and scared. WDW is a happy and magical place, and some posters cannot stand for others to enjoy their trips, they seem to revel in making others feel bad.

I have read posts where someone cancelled the DDP after reading the boards and then realized that the DDP actually would have been a good deal for their trip - they paid more OOP for their meals just to "show Disney" that they were upset with the changes in the dp this year!! Needless to say, the poster regretted that he/she ever paid attention to the responses on the DIS concerning the DDP changes.

Just keep hoping for an opening, don't give up trying, and enjoy your trip. Don't ever let anyone on the boards make you feel guilty, and just do what you feel is right for your family. Have a magical trip!!

Are you kidding me???? You want people to pay a non-refundable deposit on ADR'S that some people are booking at almost 6 months before they travel. We have to try to know where we want to eat, what time we want to eat it, and how many people we are going to eat it with!!!! Then if for some reason we have to cancel our trip, change our reservations, or someone is sick,...etc. You want everyone to be penalized??? :thumbsup2

Why did I open this thread? Glad I only read about 10 posts.

Here's to hoping it gets closed soon. :thumbsup2

To answer the OPs question, no - I have made all of mine honestly.

Thanks

I guess I am confused by the logic here....

If a party of 2 calls in April for a 7:00pm ADR on October 1st and the only thing left at 7:00pm is a table for 4.....are you saying that you think it's right that they are denied that table in the hopes that a party of four will call and want that reservation?

What if that party of 4 doesnt call until August? Should every party of 2 or 3 that calls between April and August be denied the chance to reserve that table?

In all my years at Disney, I have seen very few (if any) triangular tables. Where is a party of 3 supposed to sit?

And that begs the question of individual diners. Very few Disney restaurants have counter seating, so are parties of 1 out of luck? A table for two would leave an empty seat and therefore supposedly take money from Disney's pockets. What's the solution?

Imagine walking into your favorite hometown restaurant and seeing a sea of empty 4 person tables. The hostess asks how many and you tell her 3. She turns and looks and says "we have nothing for a party of three....would you like to try a different day"? I cant imagine there is a person reading this that wouldnt be at the very minimum, angry.

The problem we have here is that Disney Dining's system is flawed, and thats by there own admission. When working with a flawed system, you have to find solutions that work. People have finally caught on to Disney's flawed system and they are improving it.

The new system should be fully operation by the end of October. This comes directly from Disney.

I find nothing wrong with stating that there is one or two more in a party to get a table. I did for one dinner for our fall trip. We are a party of 5 and I said 6. For those that said that it denies a party of 6 to dine there. Well, I made the ressie first and why should we not get to eat there because we have one less in our family than that other family? We are just as entitled to eat there as they are.

As far as taking money out of Disney's profit because a seat sat empty. If they were that concerned, they wouldn't allow sharing meals. No one seems to think anything wrong with that. A party of 4 shows up and shares 2 entrees. So, how is a party of 2 showing up ordering 2 entrees any different than a party of 4 showing up sharing 2 entrees? So, since people find nothing wrong with sharing meals, I guess I'll be sharing my entree with Uncle Jim (my phantom guest to get the ressie I wanted!)
