The Running Thread --2025

September total: 91 miles

My goal for the past 3 months was to get back to half marathon shape and I finally feel like I'm there. I ran a 10 mile race on 9/14 and was able to comfortably complete the race at a pace that was a bit faster than my usual long run pace on a warm & humid morning. Now if we could just get rid of this unusually warm weather...

ATTQOTD: I can get about 300 road miles out of my Novablasts, then I move them to the treadmill where I can get about another 100 miles out of them. After that they move to dog-walking shoes or yard shoes.

ATTQOTD: It depends on the model for me. When I ran in Brooks Glycerin, I could get ~250 miles out of a pair. After switching to the Brooks Ghost, I found I could get ~300 miles per pair. It's eerily consistent, too. Like clockwork, I start to get unexpected ankle and knee pain that I can't attribute to any other source, around that 300 mile mark. As soon as I change the shoes out, the pain goes away. I track the mileage on my shoes in Garmin Connect, so it's easy to verify where I am in the life cycle of a given pair.

I will just tack on that DS2 got around 500 miles out of his Saucony speed 3s. He would have kept running in them, but he completely ripped out the upper where it attaches to the foam, and the rubber on the sole was peeling off as well.
That’s one of my high mileage pairs, I have 560 miles on a pair of them and keep them in my owners locker for a backup and or 10k shoe. They are awesome yet the speed 4 hurts me, go figure.

I only "recently" (last year or so) started tracking miles on shoes using my Garmin, as prior I only ever had one pair that I would retire to be my treadmill shoes when my legs/knees are feeling more beat up than "normal", and then the treadmill shoe becomes the lawn mowing shoe, in a never ending chain...

For my current road shoes that I have been tracking currently have 240+ on a pair of Boston 12, and then 130 on a pair of EVO SLs.

I have a pair of Wave Inspire 19s that are now the treadmill shoes, I wouldn't be surprised if they are close to the 500 mark, including treadmill time, those things are tanks. But that number is just a guess at this point.

This is perfect timing! I’m right at about 300 miles with my Rides. They’ve been fine, but I don’t love them. I just got a pair of Novablast 5 and one three mile run in, my left ankle hurts and has been for two days now. I’m stressing. My training for the marathon has been really on track. I’m gonna try to run in the Rides tomorrow and see how it feels.

I’m probably brining them back. The store didn’t have Rides but did have saucony Triumphs. Those were my second choice. Anyone run in those?

I also Just ordered some Ghosts on sale on Amazon.

I get 300-350 miles out of my New Balance 1080 V13s. I'm on pairs 4 and 5. They're extra poppy for the first 30 miles, then fall off around 250, then eventually cause aches around 300 when it's time to retire.

I run with inserts and have been using one pair of inserts over two pairs of shoes (so 600-700 miles for the inserts.) How do you manage mileage on inserts?
