The I am a pirate/fireman, I am not a hijacker thread, all about nothing in general

Finally bit the bullet and changed my tag. I know it's rare that the Tag Fairy heads to this section of the boards, so I'm kissing my one of a kind coloured tag good bye.

I might need to venture to other parts of the Dis to get noticed. :rotfl:

As long as you're happy with it. :thumbsup2

BecPee our countdown tickers are counting down the exact same dates, when are you leaving? I cant remember if I did my countdown to our original date departure or our revised one which is the 23rd August.
We fly out on Sept 7

Can you please make it go quicker??

I will have to go and amend mine and I really am trying to make it go quicker. My dd thought that if she ate her jellybeans faster then we would leave sooner - it didnt work. (all the kids have a jellybean jar that is their countdown to our holiday)
I entered my leave for work yesterday and added a day prior to departure just to help it get here a little faster - every day helps;)

Who here knows about ISPs? I'm currently with Telstra, but I'm constantly having problems with my connection. The usual problem is it only connects intermittently, but my current problem is ridiculous speeds...

Anyhoo, my question for those in the know - If I were to change ISP, who would you recommend? Also, is it true that Telstra owns all the line any way? So if I was to change my ISP and it turns out it's a problem with the line, wouldn't I still have the same issues with my new provider?

We are with Westnet and have lots of issues with connectivity. We are too far from the exchange we have been told (by Telstra and Westnet) for reliable connection. I did read on Whirlpool, though, that sometimes it could be the wires and connections within your house that could be the issue. Our house was built in the 80s and with the stuff we've seen so far during renovations, nothing would surprise us if the owner-builders took shortcuts with that too :sad2:

I'm not that helpful on isps, but if its a line problem I would guess you'd have the same problem with all isps. If it's just a speed problem, that is possibly isp specific (too many users, not enough bandwidth).

If you want to switch have you considered cable Internet? You'd need to check what's available in your area. I use Transact who were recently bought out by iinet. Switched when I could no longer get naked dsl, been with them for over two years, and it's a great service. Always on, always fast. Transact are only in a few areas, but there may be other providers near you.

Technically we're supposed to have fibre here... but we don't... :confused3 I'll check and see if there's cable near here, but I have a feeling there isn't...

I have been browsing on the DVC part of the Dis, trying to find out as much as I can about Aulani, when I stumbled on a thread about people who have a lot of DVC points.

I noticed that one particular poster has 4500 points, which, if my calculations are correct, means they could spend about 2/3 of the year staying in Disney in a studio. It also means their yearly dues would be somewhere around $27,000.
When someone has reached a point in their life where they are that financially comfortable, I suppose those dues seem cheap compared to living in your own home and hiring a housekeeper, grounds person, pool boy, and maintenance man.

I have no idea how this person actually spends their points, but the thread did get me thinking. Dues aside, if you had the option to spend half a year + living at Disney, would you do it?

I think I could be quite happy there for about 2 months, but more than that, I'm not so sure. It would certainly be a very happy, peaceful existence, and with all there is to do in the area (both inside and outside the parks) I don't think I'd ever get bored. But I also think I might reach a point where it all began to feel a bit 'artificial'?

What do others think?

I actually met a couple whilst I was having breakfast at the Boardwalk and they were very chatty. They were a retired couple and had enough points from all the various timeshare places to spend close on 10 months away from home. They had about 2 months at Disney; and they said that the dues were not worth it after that.
I asked them how they got started and they said that they set out very early in life deciding that the timeshare was their retirement plan; and I thought good on them. They don't spend all 10 months away; they do gift some to their family so everyone can enjoy.

That sounds like a nice retirement plan. Having points for various timeshare places sounds a bit more appealing to me. I think I could very happily spend about 10 months of the year travelling around the country and the world.

We have 330 points and would like approx 1000 I don't think we would get Disneyed out at 2 months because I know for sure we wouldn't be spending all our time in the parks we loved staying in a 2 bedroom at GC and I did say to DH I could live here with this view and he said me to but I'm pretty sure he was talking about the room and the bathroom not the location :rotfl: $27000+ is way to much in dues for me ::yes::

330 points sound awesome. If I was in the financial position to buy into DVC, I think I would love to have about 200 points.

Not so many that I would feel committed to only ever doing Disney vacations, but enough to convince DH that we need to go at least once every three years. :rotfl:

I told him yesterday that I am having WDW withdrawals and that we need to go back sometime in the next 4-5 years. He didn't look too impressed :(

Anyone else notice the time?

Seems like the Dis changed for US daylight saving time but haven't yet caught up on the global timezone.
I wonder if this means we're going to have posts in different orders like in the past? Fun times, peeps. Fun times. :stir:
